"What do you think, Eddie?" Sylvia said excitedly as she spun around the chair to face the mirror. She unbuttoned the cape, threw it to the side then fluffed up Eddie's hair.

"Wow," was all Eddie could let out when she finally got to look at herself. She ran her fingers through her hair. Her long tresses were now cut into a cute lob hairstyle that sat just above her shoulders.

"I took about six inches off your hair," Sylvia informed her as she pointed to the mess of hair on the ground. "It's a big change, I know, but I think it totally suits you. And it's way easier to maintain. What do you think?"

There was a few moments of silence before Eddie flashed a bright smile at Sylvia, "I love it. I really do. It's even better than I imagined."

"Great!" she clapped happily. "You look so good. I'm sure Jamie won't be able to keep his hands off you once he sees your new hair."

A small blush rose upon Eddie's cheeks as she chuckled. Jamie didn't know that she was doing this, he was just under the impression that she was going in for a quick trim like she usually did every few months. She knew that he would probably be shocked by her new hair but if she loved it, then he would too.

She walked out of the salon a few minutes later with a spring in her step. This new look had her feeling happy, giddy even. She had been planning to do this for awhile now. As much as she had loved having long hair, it was a pain to handle at times. And now that NYC was experiencing it's hottest summer in over ten years, it gave her more of a reason to finally make the change.

Her and Jamie had agreed to meet at Ciprani, a much loved Italian restaurant a block away from the precinct. He was on duty this weekend, but thankfully was able to take some time away to have lunch with her. They tried their best not to be scheduled on weekends, but sometimes it just didn't work out that way.

She made it to the restaurant before him, and went to their usual booth in the back. They were frequent diners there and most of the staff already knew them by name. She went ahead ordered for the two of them, knowing that Jamie doesn't revert away from his usual order.

It didn't take long for him to show up. He walked in and looked around for a moment before smiling brightly once he spotted her. He was a far enough distance away that he didn't have a full view of her yet. He started to make his way toward her then stopped short of the table once he got close.

"What?" she questioned, looking up at him.

"Your hair," he responded, reaching out and running a hand over it. "You cut it."

"Yeah…" she drawled out. Suddenly, slight insecurity started to fill her. "What's wrong with it?"

"Nothing," he replied as he scooted into the booth next to her. "It's just… different."

"Well… do you like it?" she asked gently.

"Like it?" He flashed a wide smile, "I love it, Ed. It looks great on you."

"Really?"

He reached up and tucked a piece of hair behind her ear, "Really."

She smiled, "Good. I won't lie... I was a little anxious when I first saw it. I thought it was too much."

"It isn't," he assured her as he ran a hand over her hair again. "It looks good on you. What made you want to cut it?"

"I'd been thinking about it for awhile now and if I'm being honest... I've felt kind of boring as of late."

"Boring? What do you mean?" he asked with a furrowed brow.

"I've had the same old look for years now. Nothing has changed about me."

"And that's a bad thing?" he questioned cautiously.

"Not at all," she replied. "I just wanted to do something new... for me. And I'm really glad I did it."

He nodded and brought her close, kissing the side of her head, "Long hair or short, I'll always love you the same. You could shave it all off and I'd still have the hots for you. Ed... with whatever you changes you make, to your hair or whatever the case may be, the most important thing is that you love it. If you love it, then I do too. No matter what, you'll always be the most beautiful woman in the world, especially to me."

She gave a gentle smile, "Thank you. That means a lot coming from you." Then, she leaned in and pressed a soft kiss to his lips. "I love you."

"I love you too," he responded. There was a comfortable silence between the two for a few moments before she felt his hand run dangerously low on her back. "It's a damn shame that I have to go back to work after this. I would much rather go home with you now."

She chuckled, "Oh yeah?"

He nodded, "Yeah."

"Well, how about I do you one better. After you get off of work later, why don't you meet me at the Westin Hotel in Midtown? You don't have to work tomorrow and family dinner isn't until five o'clock. I'll pack some clothes for you. All you have to do is show up."

"I like that sound of that. I'll be there."

She affectionately leaned her head against his. If there's one thing that she's learned in the ten years of knowing and five years of loving Jamie Reagan, it's that he never fails in letting her know how much she means to him.
