Chapter 2
Three months later, Abigail Baker and Sid Gormley walked into Garrett Moore's office after the morning briefing in the Commissioner's office. "What are you two doing here?" Moore queried.
"Tell you're the PR guy," Sid snarked.
"I'm also the Deputy Commissioner Lieutenant Gormley," Moore fired back.
"Back down both of you," Baker barked.
"Thank you Detective," Garrett smiled. "Now please fill me in."
"Sir, the Commissioner was not wearing his wedding ring this morning," Baker reported.
Garrett looked at her. "I noticed as well. And…"
"What the hell is going on?" Sid asked.
"I don't know," Garrett said. "Maybe he finally closed the final page on that chapter of his life."
"That's what you would say to the media if they asked," Sid fired back.
"No," Garrett said. "I'd tell the media what I'm going to say to you two. That is Commissioner Reagan's personal business. That makes it his business only. Now get out of my office." Gormley looked at Moore. "Now please," Moore added. Baker nodded at him with a small smile following Gormley out of the office.

Frank and Kate continued to enjoy their Friday nights together. Frank came in the back patio door off the pool area with the leaves beginning to fall, now knowing the code to the back gate of the pool area of Kate's fortress that her sons had made for her. He headed towards the house and opened the patio door into the home. "Hi you," he smiled, shutting the patio door. He kissed her cheek, pulling her into a hug. "You can't believe what happened on my walk up."
Kate smiled, wrapping her arms around Frank. "Enlighten me."
"John and Ginny and Ray and Margaret still have dinner together every Friday night," Frank started, hugging Kate back.
"And then play bridge together afterwards," Kate smiled. "I remember that. My brain got sloshed around back then. However, I survived the concussion as well. What happened?"
Frank smiled and kissed Kate again. "They stopped me and said 'you two have fun and don't worry about us neighbors. We support you'."
Kate smiled. "At least the biggest gossip group in Bay Ridge is on board. Need a beer?"
"Yes," Frank said as they walked to the kitchen together. Kate pulled two bottles out of the fridge and handed them to Frank. He screwed off the bottle caps and held out one bottle to Kate. She held up her hand. Frank put the bottle in her hand. Beans softly barked at Frank to get her dose of pets.
"Thank you," Kate smiled.
"You're training me well," Frank smiled. "And I'm happy to help. Since Pop is out to dinner with his buddies, what's for dinner?" he asked as he petted Beans.
"Homemade pizza," Kate smiled, turning to her kitchen. "I bought some pepperoni slices if you want them."
Frank sat down on a stool at the kitchen island in Kate's large kitchen. "I'll defer to your touchy stomach."
Kate looked at him. "You can say it Frank. I can. And I can do half and half."
"Compliments of the Gambochi family. May they all rot in hell," Frank growled.
Kate giggled. "Forever my knight. I know sausage, Canadian bacon and mushrooms work." Final answer. Do you want pepperoni on half?"
"Thank you," Frank smiled, taking another drink of his beer. He looked at Kate. "I know I can ask this."
"Ask what?" Kate said, putting the pepperoni on the pizza.
"All the surgeries you had, you still have that scar around your left eye." Kate looked at Frank. "Come on Kate. You're a doctor. I know you have at least three doctor friends that are plastic surgeons."
Kate put the pizza in the oven. "Actually Frank, I have no doctor friends that do that shit." Frank looked at her. "Yes, there are too many that don't practice their profession correctly." Frank shook his head. "That said, I'd never cover that scar."
"Why not?" Frank asked.
"Frank," Kate said, looking at him. "This scar," she said, pointing at it, "is my big F-you to the Gambochi family who are still on the streets and those rotting in prison. You didn't break me. And you didn't break my family."
Frank grinned. "Good for you. Now set the timer on the pizza."
"Thank you," Kate grinned back, grabbing the egg timer.
"How do you know what time you're setting it at?" Frank inquired.
"It's in Braille," Kate explained. "I've got enough smart technology that talks to me. I don't need the timer doing it."
"Get busy living or get busy dying," Frank laughed.
"I haven't seen that movie in years," Kate retorted. "I've got it on DVD."
"I think we've got something to do after dinner," Frank smiled.
Kate looked at Frank. "You bring a cigar?"
"You know better. You have single malt Irish Whiskey?"
Kate looked at him. "My name is Katherine Murphy McInerney and you've been here how many Friday nights before?"
"I'll take that as a yes," Frank smiled.
Kate walked into the large pantry in the kitchen and came back out with a cup full of dog food for Beans. Beans happily followed Kate who put the food into Bean's dish and picked up Bean's water dish. Kate took it to the sink, rinsed it out and put fresh water in it. "I'll take that," Frank said.
Kate sat down on a stool at the kitchen island. Frank sat down on the one next to her. For the next hour, she and Frank talked, laughed, and enjoyed their dinner with a couple more beers. "That was the best pizza," Frank smiled, taking Kate's plate, putting his and Kate's into the dishwasher. "Need help with the dishes?"
Kate shook her head. "I'll put what's left of the pizza in a plastic bag. It's just the pizza pan and the skillet I used to brown the sausage. That'll take me five minutes. Jay and Trey loaded up my wood box on Wednesday. Do you mind getting the fireplace going? Jay opened the flue."
"I'd love to," Frank said. "I've always envied your fireplace with the big stones."
Kate came into the living room as Frank got the fire going. She opened a credenza. "A set of eyes please."
Frank pulled out the DVD as Kate got the TV going. She handed Frank a remote after pushing the 'on' button. "Press function and scroll down to DVD and select." Frank followed her directions.
Frank put in the DVD and moved to sit down on the couch. "I think we're set," he smiled as Kate sat down next to him. Frank put his around her shoulder.
The scene in the prison library where Andy explains to Red how he's laundering Warden Norton's money ended. Frank picked up the remote off the coffee table, hit the pause button, put the remote back down and stood up. "Frank?" Cait said.
"I'm sorry. With the coffee I drink in the office…"
"Which you shouldn't."
"Thank you Doctor, who is the second one to say that to me. Then add the three beers. I need to go."
"Go," Kate smiled. "Knowing this." Frank stopped and looked at her. "There was a husband in this home. Plus four sons who were reared here. And now nine grandsons around." She looked at Frank. "I tell you the same thing I've told all of them. You pee all over my clean toilets, I chew you a new one. And I'm Irish."
Frank grinned. "I'm an NYPD cop and now the PC. My aim is true. And I'm also Irish. I know that ass chewing," he smiled, moving to the three-quarter bath off the kitchen. Kate roared with laughter.
When Frank came out of the bathroom and into the kitchen, Kate handed him a glass of whiskey. Holding her own glass of the same elixir, she wagged her index finger at him. "Follow me."
"Kate?" Frank asked, following her back to the couch.
"Sit down," Kate pointed.
"What the hell is going on?" Frank asked.
"A shoulder and neck massage for you," Kate said. "Take off your sweater and sit down."
"I don't need that," Frank challenged.
"Yes you do," Kate fired back. "You kept moving your shoulder around while you were sitting with me. Frank, please sit down," she softly smiled. "Give me a minute, I'll have you begging for more."
"It's your home," Frank grumbled, pulling off his sweater and sitting down.
Kate laughed again. "Now I know I'm right." Frank restarted the movie and felt Kate deeply run the bottom of her muscular palms up the inside of his shoulder blades. She got to the bottom of his neck and started to massage his neck muscles.
"Maybe you are," Frank softly moaned.
"Gee ya think," Kate smiled, getting up on her knees on the couch, next to Frank, to massage his neck and shoulder muscles. As they both watched the movie, Kate worked her magic. After the Warden had Tommy murdered, Kate softly put each hand on the front of Frank's shoulders and gave them a firm snap backward.
"Damn Kate."
Kate moved around his shoulders. "Tell me how that feels?"
Frank took a drink of his whiskey. "Like maybe you should do more."
Kate smiled. "I need a drink," she said, reaching towards the coffee table for her glass. Frank picked it up and handed it to her. "Thank you," Kate said, kissing his cheek. She handed the glass back to him. "But I'm not done. I've only got the office tension out from Tuesday."
"Tuesday was a day," Frank said, setting Kate's glass back down on the coffee table.
"I can tell," Kate said, rubbing his shoulder and neck muscles more.
Kate sat back down on the couch, holding Frank in her arms as Red said his final iconic words. "I hope," Kate said, matching Red's words, rubbing her hand over the middle of Frank's chest.
"What do you hope for Katherine Murphy McInerney?" Frank asked with a smile, shutting the DVD player and the video system down with the remote.
"I hope you get your ass into the hot tub and soak for twenty minutes to finalize my massage."
"I don't have a swimsuit," Frank said.
Kate shook her head. "We've had this convo how many times about you not bringing it here."
"I'm not going to walk up the block, with the neighbors all watching, carrying my swimsuit."
Kate shook her head at Frank, rolling her eyes. "They all know I have a pool." She waved her right hand in front of her face. "Hello Frank? I won't see a thing."
Frank picked up their glasses. "Pour me another drink to enjoy in there." He walked into the kitchen and set the glasses on the kitchen island. "Have fun finding them while I get into the hot tub," Frank said.
"Get your ass out there Frank," Kate said. "I'll find our glasses."
"I have no doubt," he smiled at her.
Frank went out onto the patio, stripped down, putting his clothes on the patio couch and climbed into the hot tub, settling into the water up to his neck. "Damn, I hate it when she's right," he grumbled to himself. He leaned his head into the cushioned lip of the edge at the top of the hot tub and shut his eyes, letting the warmth and the hot tub jets finish Kate's job. He hadn't felt this relaxed in years.
He opened his eyes a few minutes later, smelling Kate's perfume. He looked. Kate was wearing a white terrycloth bathrobe and her slides coming out from the patio door by the kitchen. She had another bathrobe over her left arm with a glass in each hand. Frank watched as she expertly, having walked the steps before by counting them, got to the patio table and put down the glasses.
Kate put the extra bathrobe on the couch, pulled out another pair of slides and set them down. She walked to the steps of the hot tub and pulled the ties on her robe, opening it. She took off the robe, revealing her naked body, and tossed it on the couch. Frank felt his manhood swell at the sight of her.
Kate slipped her slides off and walked down the steps into the hot tub. She put her left knee on Frank's right thigh and maneuvered her right leg around Frank's hip and back. "Frank, I'm a woman," she softly said.
"I've noticed," Frank said. "A long time ago," as Kate sat her right thigh down his left thigh and got her left leg around his hip and back.
Kate slid her naked torso up Frank's thighs. Her crotch found Frank's growing erection. She rubbed her hands up his sides as she kissed Frank, pushing her tongue into his mouth. The darting challenge of her tongue made his erection grow. Kate smiled, setting her vagina over Frank's penis. She looked at Frank. "A woman gets what she wants."
Frank ran his hands up Kate's sides. Each thumb found a breast nipple to rub. "And you don't play fair," he said, giving her his first thrust, rubbing his thumbs more over each nipple. Kate moaned with pleasure and tongued one of Frank's nipples.
That was the end of Frank's control. He climaxed into her as Kate leaned away from Frank, with him still rubbing her breasts. She exhaled her pleasure of Frank's climax and her own orgasm. Then she dropped against his chest, putting her arms around his back. Frank embraced Kate, holding her tightly to his chest. They both enjoyed the aftermath of the encounter while relaxing in each other's arms.
"I've wanted to do this," Frank said. "But…"
Kate softly laughed. "I didn't mind being the forward slut."
Frank laughed. "Was this the plan tonight?"
Kate looked at Frank. "Think bigger Commissioner," she seductively smiled.
"Kate?"
"Frank, why do you think I walked by your home every night?"
Frank thought for a few seconds. "Really?"
"Really," Kate smiled at him. She kissed his neck by his ear. "You are an honorable man who is very handsome and who I know I can trust." Kate leaned back off his chest and looked at him. "And I'm lonely."
Frank embraced Kate back to his chest. "That I understand. And how hard it is to move on." He kissed Kate's cheek, holding her in his arms. "I've fallen in love with a beautiful, wonderful woman."
Kate leaned up a little to look at him. "I love you," she smiled, kissing him.
"That said Kate with all this being wonderful, can we enjoy our whiskey and cigar?" Frank smiled.
"I'd love to Frank," Kate replied. "But we have a problem Houston." Frank looked at her. "How I got my right leg around your hip and back is beyond me."
"A minor miracle," Frank smiled.
"And then some," Kate responded. "I need help."
"Hold on to me with your arms and legs," Frank said, kissing her cheek. Kate did. Frank stood up in the hot tub. Kate slid her legs off his back and stood on the hot tub floor.
"You're good," Kate smiled.
"Now what?" Frank asked.
Kate looked at him. "I was hoping you'd spend the night," she confessed.
"And sleep with a warm body next to you," Frank smiled back.
"Yes," Kate admitted. "I've missed that too."
Frank smiled. "So have I."
"What about your dad Frank?"
Frank laughed. "He'll figure it out Kate."
"No shit," Kate laughed back.
"But I know Pop," Frank smiled. "He won't mind."
Kate looked at Frank. "Gee, I hope you don't get grounded," she smiled.
Frank shook his head, kissing Kate. "You know me. I cannot keep up with your sarcastic humor."
Kate kissed Frank. "No, you can't," she giggled. "But for now, let's get the chlorine rinsed off, get warm in our robes and enjoy our drinks and your cigar."
"That sounds like a plan," Frank said, taking Kate's hand to guide her out of the hot tub.

Frank woke the next morning with his arms around Kate in the middle of her bed. This feels wonderful he smiled to himself. He lifted his head and looked at the clock Kate had on her nightstand next to the bed. It was a little past seven. He gently pulled his arms away from Kate and got out of bed.
He shook his head at the bathrobe in the chair next to the bed and the slides on the floor. That's the softest damn bathrobe I've ever had, he thought. He pulled on the robe while putting his feet in the slides. He walked into Kate's master bathroom and looked around, shaking his head at the large spa tub. Then headed to the toilet to pee. When he finished, flushed the toilet, washed and dried his hands, he noticed Beans standing in the doorway of the bathroom, wagging her tail at him. Frank smiled. "You need to go too?" he asked with a whisper. Beans softly barked her answer back. "Come on you," he grinned, letting her out the patio door in Kate's bedroom.
While Beans was outside, Frank walked down the hallway towards the kitchen. He shook his head. I've fought with Jack and Sean over these damn slides for two years. But they are right. They are damn comfy. Frank, following Kate's lead last night, got the cup full of food for Beans and put it in her dish. He picked up the water dish, went to the sink, rinsed out the bowl and poured fresh water into the dish. As he was setting it down, Beans appeared at the patio door near the kitchen. Frank smiled, moving to the doors to let her in.
He went back down the hall towards Kate's bedroom. He looked at her, still soundly sleeping. Frank smiled, pulled off the bathrobe, putting it in the chair, moved to the bed, leaving the slides by the side of the bed and climbed back in. He spooned up next Kate, putting his arms around her again. She never moved. Frank softly kissed her bare shoulder next to the spaghetti strap of her silk sleep gown, while keeping her warm with the blankets. Frank enjoyed the warmth as well and dozed back off.
An hour later, Kate rolled onto her back. Frank stirred and opened his eyes, his arm still around Kate's waist. "Good morning," he smiled.
"Good morning to you," Kate smiled back. "What time is it?"
Frank looked at the clock. "A little after eight." He looked at Kate. "Why do you have a clock there?"
"That I can't see."
"Exactly," Frank responded.
"Sometimes I need an alarm clock to get up for an appointment or something. One of the family stops over the night before to set it for me," she explained. "I'm used to that alarm."
"I'll buy that," Frank said. "You know, it's been a while since I slept only in my boxers."
"Is that a bad thing?" Kate asked with a smile.
"No, it's not," Frank grinned, kissing her.
"I love you," Kate responded. "But I need to use the bathroom and let Beans out," she said, getting out of bed.
"Your bladder is stronger than mine," Frank said, while Kate pulled on her bathrobe. "I was up an hour ago and Beans has been out and fed."
Kate knelt down on the bed and put her hand on Frank's chest. She then moved her hand to Frank's chin to find his face. She kissed him. "Thank you. I love you."
"I love you too," Frank smiled.
When Kate came out few minutes later, Frank was in his pants, pulling on his t-shirt. "I laid a towel and wash cloth out for you if you'd like to take a shower," Kate said. "I'll start the coffee."
"Sounds good," Frank said.
Fifteen minutes later, Frank walked into the kitchen, wearing his pants, shirt and watch. He smiled at Kate wearing cotton lounge pants, a Columbia U sweatshirt and her slides. "I gotta admit, these slides are pretty comfy. Don't tell Jack and Sean."
Kate smiled, handing him a mug of coffee. "My grandkids got me hooked on them." She pointed at the kitchen island that had a sugar bowl plus a half and half container on it. "You add what you need to your coffee."
"Just a little of each," Frank said. "Now where's my coat? I'm sorry, I do need my cell to check with the office."
"I hung it over one of the dining room chairs," Kate pointed.
Frank took a sip of his coffee as he walked towards the chair. "This coffee is wonderful," he said, pulling his cell out of his coat pocket.
"You said it last night," Kate explained. "Me and my touchy stomach. It's low acid roast. I order it through Amazon Prime."
Frank sat down at the kitchen island. Kate gave him some time to read. "Any fires?" she asked.
"No big ones," Frank answered.
"Thank God."
"Amen," Frank responded. Just then, his cell rang. "Then again…"
"Who is it?" Kate asked.
"Pop," Frank said.
"Put it on speaker," Kate grinned.
"Good morning Pop."
"Francis, you broke curfew last night." Kate stifled a giggle.
"And I'm in how much trouble Pop?" Frank asked with a smile.
"You two had breakfast yet?"
"Scrambled eggs and bacon or French toast Henry?" Kate asked.
"Both," Henry replied. "I know how you cook Kate. I'll be up there in ten minutes."
"See ya then Pop," Frank smiled. He and Kate heard the call end.
Kate looked at Frank. "I need a little help. You want the scrambled eggs or the French toast?" she smiled, pulling a pound of bacon out of the fridge.
"Scrambled eggs are my specialty," Frank smiled back.
Frank let Henry in the front door and helped him out of his coat. He led his dad to the kitchen as Kate was frying bacon. "So what happened last night?" Henry asked, looking at them with a smile.
"I got seduced Pop," Frank smiled.
"He was an easy target," Kate grinned, putting the bacon into a pan and then put the pan into the oven to keep warm.
"'Bout damn time you two hooked up," Henry beamed.
