A/N: In my original outline, the honeymoon was to be the last chapter. I will never end a story on chapter 13. So all of you get this addition. It's not a cheapie.
According to a line I caught in a Blue Bloods episode, page six is the gossip column page in some of the NYC newspapers.
Chapter 14
After their smooth flight back home the day before, Frank and Kate came in the door of St. Patrick's Catholic Church Palm Sunday morning for the eleven o'clock Mass. One of the members smiled as Frank helped Kate out of her coat, hanging it up. Then doing the same with his own. "Gotcha covered Frank," he smiled. "I won't ring the bell until you sit down."
"Thanks Tom," Frank smiled.
"Welcome Mrs. Reagan and congratulations," Tom said.
"Thank you Tom," Kate smiled.
Frank walked Kate up the aisle to the pew Henry, Jamie, Erin and Nicky were sitting in. He gently guided Kate into the pew while genuflecting to the altar, crossing himself. Henry took Kate's hand to get her seated. Frank sat down, and then moved to the kneeler. Kate bowed her head in prayer.
When she finished, Danny, with his family sitting with him in the next pew, leaned up towards Kate. "How well is that tan spread out?" he asked with his usual devilish smile.
Kate looked over her shoulder and raised her eyebrows. "You're in church," she growled with her best mother whisper.
Frank sat down next to her in the pew and put his arm around Kate. "You're good," he whispered.
"I've been handling boys in church for how many years," Kate whispered back.
Sean looked down the pew at his dad as Tom rang the bell. "Busted," he mouthed with his big smile. Jack shared a knuckle bump with Sean as Henry softly snickered.

The Dream Team was waiting for Frank when he walked into his office Monday morning at his usual around eight time. "Welcome back Frank," Garrett said. "Nice tan," he smiled.
"Thank you," Frank said, pulling off his coat and dumping it over a chair. Baker took it off the chair and hung it up.
"Congratulations boss," Gormley smiled. "And welcome back."
"Thank you Sid," Frank said, putting his briefcase on his desk. He looked at Baker. "You can start any time."
Baker shook her head with a smile. "Congratulations sir. It's good to have you back," she said. She looked at Frank. "Oh hell. Can I give you a hug?"
"Absolutely," Frank smiled. After the quick hug, Frank looked at the three. "Let's get started."
"Your schedule this week is pared back to have you out the door by four o'clock following doctor's orders that I've been read in on." Garrett said as he, Sid and Abigail took their usual chairs in front of his desk.
"Which one?" Frank growled.
"Dr. Fitzgerald," Garrett fired back. "And no, I won't argue with the doctor at home that is backing him."
"Duly noted," Frank said.
Baker outlined his schedule for the day. "One more thing sir, Archbishop Keane insisted on fifteen minutes of your time today. He called every day last week."
Frank shook his head. "I've got a good idea what that's about." He looked at Gormley. "Can security stop him Sid?"
"Really boss?" Sid asked.
Frank shook his head again. "Abigail, let's get caught up on the usual letter signing before I meet with the assistant chiefs."
"See you then boss," Sid said, getting out of his chair.
"I'm off to prepare for my morning briefing with the jackals," Garrett said, rising as well.
"How did that go last Monday?" Frank asked.
"I used your quote and Kate's. They pressed about where you and Kate were. I narrowed it down to the continental US. They ate up the picture. It was usual page six the next day. End of story," Garrett grinned.
"Thank you Garrett," Frank smiled.
Sid, opening the door for Baker, looked at Frank. "The Hill Country is that nice?" he asked with a smile.
"It is Sid. Mike and Molly have a beautiful home. We had a wonderful time," Frank smiled back.
"I'll be back in a minute sir," Baker smiled, going out the door. Sid and Garrett followed her.
At eleven forty-five, Baker entered Frank's office. "Sir, I've been read in on the medical memo as well. What can I order you for lunch from the commissary?"
"What're the soups today?" Frank asked, knowing full well she would have the answer.
"Split pea or tomato."
Frank smiled. "I'll take a cup of tomato soup and a grilled cheese sandwich please."
Baker smiled back. "My favorite as well. Archbishop Keane is waiting."
"Send him in," Frank responded, rising from his desk chair. Abigail opened the door for the Archbishop. "Your Excellency, good to see you," Frank said.
"Good to see you Frank," Keane smiled. "We look well. Our prayers have been answered."
"Thank you for that," Frank said, waving at a chair for Keane to sit in.
"Nice tan," Keane smiled.
"Thank you," Frank said, sitting down. "Kate and I had a wonderful time in the Hill Country of Texas, staying with Jack's brother who has a visitor's condo attached to he and his wife's home."
"It sounds marvelous," Keane smiled.
Frank looked at him. "Kevin, we've know each other for how many years. When you come in here and are all nice and complimentary, I know the hammer is about to be dropped on me. So stop pussy footing around."
"No hammer Frank," Keane said. "I promise. I bring the deepest congratulations on you and Kate's marriage from his Eminence."
"Yeah right," Frank groused.
Keane smiled. "Did his Eminence question why you didn't find another woman of the faith? Yes. Myself and the senior staff at the Diocese talked him down."
"How far off the ledge?" Frank interrupted.
"Really Frank?" Keane responded. Frank looked at him.
"After 9/11, the Church has tried to reach out to other faiths in brotherhood. The Bible does not say a specific religion is going to earn eternal life, which I and Monsignor Ryan reminded his Eminence. And with the both of you allowing Monsignor Donohue to bless your marriage in the holy rite, his Eminence is fine."
Frank smirked. "Tell his Eminence that he has Kate and Pastor Hartwig to thank for that," Frank said. He looked at Keane. "So what gives Kevin?"
"A chance to spend some time with you two," he smiled. "Rumor has it Kate is a wonderful cook."
"That's it?" Frank incredulously asked. "A home cooked meal?" Keane shrugged his shoulders with a shy smile.
Frank grinned. "Kevin, I'm working my way back into my job this week. And I don't want to know your schedule given it's Holy Week. We'll have you over in a couple of weeks."
"Thank you Frank," Keane smiled. He looked at Frank. "I've got to ask."
"How an Irish girl ends up being a Protestant?" Frank asked. Keane nodded. Frank told him about Kate's brother.
Keane shook his head. "If I was Patrick Murphy, I'd have probably done the same." He looked at Frank. "And told the Chicago Diocese to go to hell like he did. It's a stain on the church that will never wash away. I'm sorry for Kate's loss." He looked at Frank. "And, if I may, pass that along to him Eminence as well. That should bring him to full buy-in."
"Thank you. I'll tell Kate and call you soon," Frank smiled.
"Welcome back my friend," Keane smiled back, getting out of his chair. "I'm very happy for both of you."
Two and half weeks later, the Archbishop was in the Kate and Frank's home. Frank and Kevin were sitting around the kitchen island as Kate was finishing their dinner. The three of them were enjoying a beer. "A help little gentlemen," she smiled, opening a drawer. She handed a corkscrew to Keane. "You open that bottle of wine you didn't have to bring," she smiled.
"A small token of my gratitude," Kevin smiled back, taking the corkscrew.
"Frank, can you please get out the salad bowls and dressings from the fridge. I pamper you both with running a salad bar."
"Got it Kate," Frank smiled. "And thank you."
A few minutes later, they all sat down at the dining room table that was pushed together for four people. After they prayed, Keane looked around the table at the beef tips in gravy over a large bed of egg noodles, along with the salads and garlic bread. "This looks wonderful," he smiled, putting food on his plate.
Kate looked at him and Frank. "Either one of you gives a piece of beef or bread to Beans, it's five Hail Mary's and two our Father's."
Frank and Kevin looked at each other. "Not bad for a Protestant," Kevin smiled with a wink.
The three had a special evening together.

Just after Kate's June birthday and Father's Day, the roof caved in on the Reagan family. Literally. In an act of revenge against Danny for busting part of his operation, a Mexican drug cartel leader ordered at hit. Danny came home from work to see his, Linda's and the boys' home engulfed in flames. It took him three frantic minutes to find Linda and the boys sitting on the bumper of a Staten Island FD truck.
A couple hours later, the four of them came in the Reagan Bay Ridge home. Henry pulled Linda into a deep hug. Jack and Sean made a beeline to Kate. Jamie had his arms around Erin and Nicky.
Danny looked at Frank. "Dad, I've got to go. The fire investigators think it was arson."
"Not tonight Danny," Frank said. "And not your job."
"Dad, you don't understand," Danny whispered. "You and I both know who ordered this."
Frank shook his head at his oldest son. "You are a husband and father first." He nodded at the scene in the kitchen with Kate taking the boys away to talk to them in private. Erin followed her. "You are not a cop tonight. Your family needs you. The rest of your family is here to back you."
"We lost everything," Sean cried in Kate's arms. "My signed hockey stick…"
"My autographed Jets jersey," Jack added.
"Hang on you two," Kate said, getting them to sit down with her. "Did you hear the key word?" The boys looked at her. "Things. Things can be replaced. Even a house. Because it's just a house. What happens with a family in it is what makes it a home. You'll have that here until everything gets worked out. That will take time. Yet I promise you that will happen. Until then, you rely on all of us to lift you up and help as much as we can. That's what family does."
"She's right," Erin softly smiled at the boys.
"Thanks grandma," Sean said, hugging Kate. Erin smiled, rubbing Sean's shoulder. Sean hugged Erin.
Jack hugged Kate. "Thanks grandma," he said, wiping a tear.
Kate hugged him tighter. "We're all going to help you through this Jack."
"I know grandma," he smiled.
Kate looked at the boys. "Now here's some of the tough part. Tell me what kind of underwear you wear." The boys looked at her. Kate smiled. "Your family takes care of you. And you both know how many males I've been around in my life."
Jack and Sean were just finishing when Henry shouted. "Pizza is here. Let's eat."
Kate nodded at the boys. "Go," she smiled. They left. Kate pulled out her cell. "Text Abbey," she said, handing her cell to Erin. "I hope you got all that."
Erin smiled. "I did," she said taking Kate's phone to send the text.
Less than three hours later Jay and Traci came in the back door. Danny and Linda came into the kitchen as Jay was putting down a large plastic storage bin, filled with clothes. The rest of the Reagan family walked in. Traci and Jay hugged Linda and Danny.
Traci smiled at Sean, handing him a Target plastic bag. "Already washed and ready to wear," she smiled, handing a second bag to Jack.
Jay looked at Jamie. "Can you give me a hand please?"
"Sure Jay," Jamie smiled. They went back out the door.
Traci looked at Linda and Danny. "Your family is here for you," she smiled. "And we have enough to find sizes to match for all four of you. Just to get you through until things settle. And as an insurance agent, I tell you to save every receipt when you buy anything to replace what you lost. And make copies. If you need any help with that end of the process, please just let me know."
Danny pulled Linda to his shoulder as she wiped tears. "Thank you," Danny said. "We appreciate that."
Jay and Jamie came in the door with two more large plastic bins and set them down. Linda, Danny and the boys shook their heads. Erin put her arm around Henry with a smile. Jay walked up to Danny and pulled him into a hug. "Your family has your back."
"Thanks Jay," Danny smiled, hugging him. Frank wrapped his arms around Kate, kissing her cheek.

A month later, Frank and Kate felt things were settling down for Danny and Linda. They invited them for dinner. Jack, now with his driver's license, was part of his grandparents' plan. He and Sean took Henry out for dinner.
They were sitting around the kitchen island together, having a beer. Frank looked at Danny and Linda. "I own the house you're using. With your mom gone, my name is solely on the deed."
Kate shook her head. "Damn, I remember that mortgage burning party. I didn't feel the best the next day."
"I'm willing to sell you two the house for a buck." Danny and Linda looked at him. "I don't need the money. And goodness knows living in Bay Ridge puts the both of you closer to work than living in Staten Island." Frank looked at them. "I get back then. You were a young couple, just starting out. You found something to work with your budget. Move up."
"Thanks dad," Danny smiled. "We'll think about it."
A month later, Danny and Linda walked onto the patio as Frank and Kate were enjoying their time around the pool with their single malt Irish whiskey and one of Frank's cigars. "Care if we barge in?" Danny smiled.
"You two want a drink?" Frank asked.
"Sure," Danny smiled.
"A short one Frank," Linda said. "I've got to work in the morning."
Frank went into the house to get their drinks. "Why is it not hot out here with the cover?" Danny asked. "It's still around eighty outside."
"It is really comfortable," Linda added.
Kate smiled and pointed. "Heat rises. The six ventilation openings are doing their job."
"Jay and Josh thought of everything," Danny smiled.
"Yes they did. They're good like that," Kate grinned.
"Yeah, they are," Danny said.
Kate mentally noted the comment as Frank came back to the patio and handed out the drinks. Danny and Linda accepted their drinks. Then Danny pulled out a hundred dollar bill and put it on the patio table. "We're taking up your offer," he smiled at Frank.
"I said a dollar," Frank frowned.
"Well, you're going to take that," Danny said. "But we do need to talk to you a bit more." Frank and Kate looked at the couple.
"We won't tell you all our finances. That's none of your business," Danny said. "Just like yours are yours. But we want to make some changes. We've already talked with Erin, Jamie and Pop. They're in."
"Why Pop?" Frank asked.
"Hear us out dad," Danny said. "That house was built in the 1930s. It still has the original electrical wiring in it. We can't get a new mortgage until that's upgraded from the fuse box downstairs to a breaker box."
"We're going a bit bigger," Linda smiled.
"We're basically going to gut the house," Danny explained. "Put in new electrical wiring, along with USB plugs. And make it our home with Josh's plans he drew up for us. We've got the financing already approved. With the insurance settlement, and you and mom, along with Linda's folks getting us to add the rider to our first homeowner's policy, the insurance company paid off our old mortgage. And did very well for us. Bottom line – our mortgage will be half of what it was and only twenty years. We can make that, even with the added property taxes."
"And Pop?" Frank asked.
Danny smiled. "We asked him if he wanted to stay there or live with you two. He wants to stay there. 'This is home'. We want him to be there."
"He visits how many of his friends in nursing homes. They all complain about getting moved around all the time. We understand why he doesn't want to move. Plus the boys love having him around and I am a nurse," Linda added. "And you two are close."
Kate shook her head at Frank. "That's why Josh has been blowing us off with designing plans for converting some of the garage into a place for Pop."
Danny looked at Frank. "Bad news is you and mom's library takes the hit. Josh has drawn up an amazing senior apartment for Pop in that space with a bedroom, a large living room and a bathroom with a walk-in shower. Do I have to point out no more steps for Pop?"
Kate rubbed Frank's shoulder and pointed in the house. "A bookcase would look really good along that wall," she smiled.
Frank looked at Kate. "You have realized the one hiccup in this plan?"
"You mean figuring out a signal for all of them that will be staying here during the re-build when we want to use our hot tub?" Kate wickedly smiled. Frank roared with laughter as Danny blushed.
"Breathe Danny," Linda laughed, rubbing his shoulder.

A month later on a Saturday morning, Josh came into Kate and Frank's home through the patio as the seven Reagans were finishing breakfast. The adults were sitting around the kitchen island. Jack and Sean were washing and drying Kate's griddle and the large frying pan. "Damn, I missed breakfast?" Josh smiled. He kissed Kate's cheek and rubbed Frank's shoulder. "Who wants a tour of the new digs," he grinned.
"Really?" Linda asked. Josh smiled at her.
"No way," Sean said.
"Yes way," Josh grinned. "I got the OK from the contractor last night. One thing mom," Josh said, as the adults stood up. "It's just roughed in. Stud walls, electrical and plumbing are done. They started placing some of the plumbing fixtures yesterday. But mom, leave Beans here. I don't want her to step on a nail that isn't fully pounded in. The flooring people catch them later in the process."
Kate smiled. "I think I'm covered," she grinned at Josh, nodding around the kitchen, rubbing his chest. "Thank you."
They all walked down the alley together with Frank guiding Kate, her hand in his elbow. Josh pulled out a key, opening the padlock on the back door. He pulled it open and waved Linda in. "Your first look at your dream kitchen," Josh smiled.
They all went in. Frank looked off to the right and noticed the electrical and plumbing work in that area. "That's the new closet area and three-quarter bathroom with Linda's large pantry across the hall from the bathroom. Beyond that is the laundry room," Josh explained.
"That's a nice upgrade," Frank smiled.
"I'll say," Henry added.
Josh described the new layout of the kitchen. He pointed at the electric outlets lying on the floor that were in the middle of the kitchen. "That's for the island," he smiled.
"I'm getting a double oven for family Sunday dinners," Linda smiled.
"You'll love it," Kate grinned.
Josh led them into the dining room. "Beyond here on this end of the floor, other than upgrading the electrical, is going to stay the same structure wise." He looked at Frank. "You got lucky."
"How so?" Frank asked.
"The chandelier that was there?" Josh pointed at the dining room ceiling. "The demo guys were surprised it hadn't blown. The electric wiring was getting that thin." He looked at Danny, Linda and the boys. "You wanna see the upstairs?" he grinned.
Henry softly grumbled. Kate put her arm around him. "He's saving the best for last Pop," she whispered with a smile.
"You know me and my patience," Henry whispered back.
Kate laughed, "I married the two point O version."
"Love you too dear," Frank snarked.
Ahead of them, Linda shook her head. "Why did you change the steps Josh?" Instead of a straight climb, the steps went part way up and then made a one-eighty turn with a small landing to finish the flight of steps.
"So the boys can have this," he smiled. The five of them walked into an area. "This is your gaming area guys. Everything is hardwired and will be ready for you, fully furnished and equipped." Josh smiled. "An early Christmas present from grandpa and grandma," he said as Kate, Frank and Henry got to the area.
"No way," Jack said in awe. Sean looked around and shook his head.
"You two deserve it," Frank said. "You've been through a lot the past few months and have been troopers, never complaining."
"We're very proud of you," Kate added with a smile. The boys rushed to hug them both as Danny put his arm around Linda, smiling.
"Can I get in on that action?" Henry said.
"They'll need games Pop," Kate smiled. "We're counting on you."
Josh nodded Linda and Danny down the center hallway. "Guest bathroom," he nodded to left. "Guest room," he pointed the right. "Extra linen closet," he pointed to the left and then led them into a huge room at the south end of the house. "Your master bedroom suite," he smiled.
Linda and Danny walked in and shook their heads at the space. "That's the walk-in closet," Josh pointed. "I just design it. I don't settle the fights over space," he smiled. "This is your bathroom." Josh explained the layout.
"A Jacuzzi tub?" Kate and Frank asked together, both broadly grinning.
"Next best thing to a hot tub," Henry snarked. Jack and Sean laughed.
"You're not helping Pop," Danny growled.
Josh smiled at his mom and Frank. "He kicked my ass growing up because I hung out with Joe. Another younger brother to terrorize."
"You were," Danny admitted with a grin.
"You two are rock stars," Josh smiled at Kate and Frank. And then looked at Danny. "Live up to the status asshole." Jack and Sean laughed more, with Henry joining them.
Josh pointed out some other features of the suite, including what he envisioned as a sitting area for the bedroom with a TV. He led the boys back down the hallway to their bedrooms and shared bathroom.
Frank shook his head. "How did you get water to this end of the house Josh for the bathroom?"
Josh smiled. "When the house was originally built Frank, this corner of the basement underneath us was the laundry room. The water pipes were in. It was easy." He looked at the group. "Let's head back down."
When they got to the bottom of the steps, Josh waited for all of them to get in the room. "Linda and Danny, I've been honored to design this for you and your family." He looked at Danny. "The ass-kicking Joe and I gave you when we were eleven evened the score," Josh smiled. Danny laughed with a head nod. "You all are my family and I wanted to do right by all of you."
"You have Josh," Linda smiled. "We can't wait to move in."
"You did a good job numbnuts," Danny grinned at Josh.
"Thank you. That said," Josh paused, putting his hand on Henry's shoulder, "your space was my labor of love Pop. I can't wait for you to see it," he grinned, gently guiding Henry to the north end of the house. Frank put his arm around Kate and followed Josh.
"Double door opening," Josh said, leading Henry into his suite. The same size as Danny and Linda's. It took up the entire end of the house.
"First off Pop," Josh said, "I know it's the north end of the house. Thank Frank for redoing the windows in here. They're solid. I put in six air ducts for you to keep this space warm," he smiled. He pointed. "And took a page out of mom's playbook."
"You opened up the fireplace to my side," Henry said, shaking his head.
"Just for you Pop," Josh smiled. "It was easy. And between mom, Erin and Linda, I have no doubt they'll help decorate this area."
"I'm counting on that," Henry smiled.
"That's your bedroom," Josh pointed.
Henry walked in and looked around at the large space. "I think the closet is big enough," he smiled. "But what's up with the door there?" he pointed.
Josh grinned. "Your family's gift to you," he said, opening the door, rubbing Henry's shoulder to get him to walk in.
Henry's bathroom was completely finished. "Oh my," Henry said, choking up as he walked in. "Look at that walk-in shower," he whispered, taking a look. "And a place for me to sit down," he added, wiping a tear away.
"Nicky picked out the tile color for you Pop," Frank smiled. It was a combination of soft teal, sky blue and white.
"I love it," Henry smiled.
Kate pulled Josh into a hug. "Thank you," she said, kissing his cheek.
"My pleasure mom," Josh said, hugging her.
The boys came in and looked around. "Gee Pop, I'm showering in here," Sean snarked.
"Like hell you are," Henry fired back. "This is mine." The rest roared with laughter walking back into Henry's living room.
"Thank you Josh," Danny smiled, sticking out his hand. "You did an amazing job."
"You're welcome Danny," Josh smiled back, shaking his hand. "Like I said, it did this for my family and loved doing it."
"It's all so amazing," Linda gushed, hugging Josh.
Danny looked around Henry's room and smiled at Linda. "And who knows. Thirty or forty years from now, we might be living down here."
Frank put his arm around Kate's shoulder and pulled her closely to him. "We call that…" Kate started with her soft smile.
"Growing old together," Frank said with her, kissing her cheek.

My deepest thanks to my OK Teach for doing the proofreading. She's not a Blue Bloods fan. But she read my BB Wiki addendum emails I sent her to get a sense of all the players. She proofs my stories in two completely different versions. She gets the read through of my first edition, adding her thoughts and comments.
