Big Time Solo, a big time rush fanfic

Kendall sighed softly as he paced the backstage room, around him other hopeful contests were chatting to each other, warming up or tuning instruments. Kendal wished he had brought James along with him, he was an expert at auditions, but Kendall wanted this to be a surprise for his friends and family.

He checked that his guitar was tunned for the hundredth time before leaning back in his seat

"you nervous?" a voice next to him asked, Kendall, glanced over to see a brunette girl in a leopard smiling at him

"yeah, I'm auditioning with an original song I wrote for my sister" Kendall replied

"Ohh, that's so sweet!" the brunette crooned "I'm Chole"

"Kendall" they shook hands "did you bring anyone with you?"

"yeah, my dad's in the audience. What about you?"

"oh no. This was a kind of an impulse decision" Kendall huffed and shook his head "what are you doing?"

"oh, I'm doing an acrobatics act with my friends over there" chole pointed to where a group of girls were warming up "you looked a little lonely, so I thought I'd come and introduce myself"

"thanks" Kendall grinned

"Kendall Knight?" Tara Banks said, peeking into the room "you're up soon", Kendall nodded and stood up

"good luck," Chole said

"you too!" he said as he disappeared through the doors, he followed Tara backstage where two other people were waiting, one he could hear the judges talking and their comments to a contestant

"Just wait here until I tell you to come on," Tara said to him, Kendall nodded and sat down on an unused speaker. He made small talk with other contestants who were singers and dancers, soon it was his turn. Kendall slowly walked onto the stage, trying his hardest not to look at the audience and the judges as he made his way to the stool that was set up for him

"hi," Howie said to him once he sat down

"hi" Kendall replied, feeling slightly stupid

"what's your name?"

"My name is Kendall Knight, I'm 16 and I'm from Minnesota" cheers erupted from the audience

"And I'm assuming from your guitar you're going to be singing?" Mel said to him

"uhh, yeah" Kendall nodded

"Are you nervous?" Simion asked him

"very. this is the first time I'm uh...singing to an audience"

"it's alright" Heidi assured him, Kendall laughed nervously

"did bring anyone with you today?" Howie asked him

"eh, no. They actually don't even know I'm auditioning. They think I'm out here because of a hockey scholarship" Kendall replied

"a hockey scholarship?" Howie clarified

"yeah, it's always been my dream to play hockey professionally, and well, technically I did have an interview, but it was yesterday" Kendall laughed

"so, why are you here today?" Simon asked him

"Well, I'm here to sing a song that I wrote for my sister" awwws erupted from the audience

"your sister wow," Howie said, impressed "she must be very important to you"

"yeah, other than my mom, she's the most important girl in my life"

"and can you tell me what the song is about?"

"uh well...my sister is on that stage where she's starting to care about her looks and a few kids made fun of her so I uh...wrote her this song to show her that it's what's inside that matters" the audience cheered and clapped

"That's very nice of you," Heidi said,

"so, why are you here?" Mel asked him

"Well, I want to tell the whole world my message and this is the best place to do it," Kendall said and the audience erupted in cheers again

"what's the song called?" Simon asked

"It's called Cover Girl"

"sounds good. Good luck" Simon said, giving him a thumbs up

"thank you" Kendall nodded, before he started to strum his guitar, below him, the band's guitarist got ready to play backup and the pianist and drummer also got ready.

Kendall soon forgot that he was on stage, singing to hundreds of people as he got lost in the song, to him, he wasn't on stage at one of America's top talent shows, he was in his room, singing his heart out

Kendall finished the song and glanced up at the quiet audience, he felt his palms get even more sweaty, did they hate the song? Before he could even finish the thought, the audience erupted into cheers, screaming loudly and got to their feet, Kendall glanced at the judges who were also clapping, Mel and Heidi were wiping tears from their eyes as they stood up. Simon even gave him a thumbs up and grinned at him

"wow," Howie said as the applause down "I mean…wow" Kendall laughed "Mel?"

"That was such an amazing song. I loved the message it portrayed and the lyrics are really powerful, just wow!" Mel said, still wiping tears from her eyes

"I think right now, a lot of women are measuring themselves up against the pictures they see in the magazines and that's why I think your song will really help a lot of women who are insecure about their looks" Heidi commented "and I really loved the song, are you sure you want to be a hockey player?" the audience erupted into laughter

"yeah. I'm sure" Kendall laughed

"Kendall. It was quite brave of you to come out here and sing an original song about something that can affect a lot of people, and I really liked the song. Good job"

"thank you" Kendall grinned as the audience applauded once more

"let's take it to a vote. Howie?" Simon asked, looking at his fellow judge

"it's a yes from me!" Howie said, and the audience cheered

"it's a yes from me!" Mel said

"a yes from me," Heidi said

"you got 4 yeses. Good job" Simon said, Kendall grinned and waved to the audience as he walked off the stage.

He got a taxi to the airport and took a nap as the plane began to ascend, he arrived back in Minnesota, he heard an excited voice yell 'KENDALL!", before he found himself tackled into a hug by an excited Carlos, over Carlo's shoulder Kendall could see James and Logan jog over to them and join the hug. The 4 hugs hugged it out, not caring that they were being stared at, all that mattered was that they were together again. His friends bombarded him with questions about his interview and he did his best to answer them, without giving too much away as they walked out of the airport and back to his house.

A few months later Kendall's audition aired on TV and he was hounded by his friends and family, asking questions as to why he didn't tell them. They were all upset when he revealed to them he wasn't going back for the quarterfinals, as Kendall said singing wasn't what he wanted to do (plus, they had a big hockey game coming up and he was the captain) so they left it alone.

That is until a few months later, on a cold winter's day, the music producer Gustavo Rocque came to town and turned Kendall's whole world upside down.

yeah, this was just a silly thought what if Kendall auditioned for AGT, but turned down the offer to continue in the next rounds, claiming that there were lots of other talented people who deserved to move on and stuff, Simon did try and talk to him about getting a record deal, which he rejected of course. But he did help Kendall get his song legalised so no one could plagiarize as their own, then when he found out that Kendall signed a record with Gustavo...he was less than pleased.
