The Schreaves were the picture-perfect family. The strong, charismatic king of a father, the sweet, gracious, charitable queen of a mother. The pretty, kind, and inviting princess. All that was left was the prince. Who, after liaison after liaison, had earned himself a bit of a reputation; the heartbreaker. In fact, the twenty-five year old prince currently had someone in his bed. He slid out of the arms of his lover and stretched as he looked outside. He knew he needed to get rid of him, preferably before his father found out. But still, he hated the awkwardness of sending them out, so, as always, he took the coward's way out. After getting ready for the day, the prince slipped out of his room and had a servant handle the rest. Anson made his way into the dining room, where his father and mother were already seated.
"Another one, really?" Regina, Anson's mother, asked in a disapproving tone as she poured some milk into her tea. She shook her head as Anson took his seat. Regina's curly, dark blonde hair was tied back into a bun with a few loose strands to frame her face.
"You're acting like I set fire to a church, mom," Anson said dryly as he reached for a croissant. "Who I sleep with is my business."
"According to the tabloids, it's everyone's business," His father, King Hudson said as he slid a magazine across the long glass table. Anson picked it up and gulped at the sight of him grinding against another man. "What have I told you, Anson?" Hudson practically hissed. "I don't care what you do with girls, but you do not bring a boy into my home."
Anson looked down, pretending to focus on the magazine cover in front of him.
"It's fine to have your boys, but keep that out of the public eye, I don't want anyone thinking my son's a pansy," Hudson said sternly.
Before anyone else could say a word, Alessia, Anson's younger sister entered the room. She was slightly tall, with her mother's dark blonde hair, though she wore her straight and loose. She was dressed in a form fitting salmon day dress.
"Did I miss something?" Alessia asked as she took her seat.
"Ah, there you are, darling," Regina greeted her youngest with a smile. "Nothing important."
"But, we do have something important to discuss," Hudson said. He turned his gaze towards Anson. "It's time you held a Selection."
Alessia's blue eyes lit up in shock as she glanced at her brother, whose expression was a mixture of dread and horror.
"No," was all he said.
"I don't recall asking," Hudson said as he reached for his coffee. "You're twenty-five, it's about time you put this playboy act of yours behind you and start to take your position as prince seriously."
Anson looked to his mother who shot him a stern look.
"Oh, don't look to her for help, we're united on this," Hudson said evenly.
"Fine," Anson murmured. "But I want men to compete too."
Alessia's jaw dropped and Regina brought a hand to her temple, as she glanced at her husband, whose face was etched in anger.
"You want men to compete in your Selection?" Hudson repeated incredulously. "Men?"
"You know I'm bi," Anson said defensively as he crossed his arms, his appetite suddenly gone.
"And I tolerate it, don't I?" Hudson huffed. "But this is crossing the line, the Selection isn't some frivolous game show, you are there to find a wife, someone to produce you with heirs."
"Fine," Anson relented, knowing he'd never win.
"Darling, you can still have your flings, but, we just can't allow men into the Selection," Regina interjected.
"Can I go now?" Anson asked, his tone dejected.
"Of course," Hudson said, he had gotten his way, what did he care if Anson went to his room to pout?
Anson threw his napkin on the table as he stood. He left the room and slammed the door shut behind him. Hudson rolled his eyes at his son's dramatics, he was far too old to be throwing fits like this.
Welcome to The Heartbreaker!
I hope you liked it so far, please leave a review if you feel so inclined!
This is open to female submissions. But if you'd like to make a supporting character outside of the Selection (foreign royalty, etc) please ask, as Alessia will need to marry eventually to form alliances.
To reserve a province, just PM me.
All characters must have their name in the subject line of the PM.
Thanks!
