This story takes place in Part I during the Chunin Exams.
Somewhere within Konohagakure or within the Land of Fire... Karin Uzumaki and her two teammates from Kusagakure. In other words, the Hidden Grass Village were participating in the second stage within the Chunin Exams. The Forest of Death. A jungle. Karin was unaware of the Rookie Nine's existence. Whom were taking the Chūnin Exams, as well to earn the rank of Chūnin.
Karin and her team were hiding in the forest from predators and enemies. Randomly, she was tasked by Shigeri and another Kusa Genin with hiding their Earth Scroll from enemies due to her lack of combat. She was left all alone while her two comrades went God-knows-where. She stared at the tree leaves floating down onto the surface from the tall tree branches. She did it while pressing the Earth Scroll against her chest. "I have to keep hiding..." Karin muttered, then suddenly sensed an animal and heard sounds of large footsteps coming closer from behind. As she did look back, she discovered a huge brown bear with a black nose, growling at her.
The giant bear assumed that Karin was its next meal, so it had targeted her.
Karin gasped, then dodged the bear's bite by running left. She tried to run as fast as she could from the bear. Then, she tripped over a large tree root and fell face first. Both her glasses and the Earth scroll she held onto with her life had slipped out from her arms. She stayed on the ground and covered the back of her head with her arms. 'Please, don't eat me!' Karin silently begged as she can hear the bear come closer. She then thought of her late mother and teared up a bit. 'Save me, mother!'
The huge bear approached Karin, closely. Getting ready to devour her, it stuck its head out closer getting ready to bite her with its sharp teeth.
'Gentle Step Twin Lion Fists Barrage!'
As Karin tried to protect herself as best she could on the ground, she heard sounds of pummeling and bear crying out in pain. In the next ten seconds, she felt a tiny tremor in the ground.
"Are you okay?"
Three seconds after the bear had collapsed, Karin heard a masculine voice and slowly opened up one of her eyes and glanced to the right to where the bear was. She saw a person standing on top of the head of an unconscious bear. But couldn't make out the person's face, due to her blurry vision. 'My glasses! I can't see clearly without my glasses!' Karin looked forward in front of her and grabbed both her Earth scroll and her pair of brown glasses. She slowly sat up on her knees and wore the glasses over her eyes. She looked toward the person who had just saved her and identified the person as a boy around her age. She had gotten a good glance at the boy.
The boy-her random rescuer had worn a whitish-gray hoody with the Hyuuga Clan symbols embedded onto both of his jacket shoulders. He also wore a pair of black pants, short blue Ninja shoes and a blue Genin Konoha Shinobi headband on his forehead. The boy had short light brown spiky hair and a pair of Byakugan. His name is...
Name: Keisuke Hyūga

"Are you okay?" Keisuke asked Karin, once more.
Karin blushed at the boy who just saved her life. She slowly nodded her head.
Keisuke jumped from the bear's head and onto the ground, close to Karin. He looked at Karin, which he can easily see her blushing toward him, but he ignored it and looked at what was in her hands. "An Earth scroll, huh?"
"Eh?"
Keisuke sighed. "Sorry, but I can't take your scroll."
"W-why not?" Karin asked.
"Because, I, also have an Earth scroll." Keisuke said as he pulled out an Earth scroll from his pocket. He then looked at her arms. They had multiple bite marks on it. "Mmph," He carefully grabbed Karin's right arm. "Who did this to you?" Keisuke felt concerned and asked Karin about the bitemarks on her arms.
Karin gasped. 'My bitemarks?'
"I'm asking you, who hurt you? I know these are human bitemarks." Keisuke asked.
Karin stared at Keisuke with sparkle in her red pupils.
"If they're here in this forest then I'll deal with them, personally!" Keisuke wanted to know who bit Karin.
Karin blushed in front of Keisuke, again. 'He cares about my marks!' Karin then pulled her right arm back and turned away from. "Um... it's nothing! Really..."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, I'm sure. Don't worry about it." Karin hid her smile from Keisuke. 'Finally. Someone who cares about me.'
"Okay. Well, I'll be going now. I'll catch you la-"
"Wait!" Karin holted Keisuke from going anywhere. "What's your name?"
"I'm Keisuke. Keisuke Hyūga." Keisuke announced his name so casually.
'Keisuke...' Karin thought. "I'm Karin! Karin of the Uzumaki Clan!" Karin happily introduced herself to Keisuke.
"Karin... Uzumaki." Keisuke muttered. "Well, I hope to see you again, soon, Karin. After the Chunin Exams are over. So, please don't die."
Karin happily bowed. "L-Likewise, Keisuke!"
Keisuke was preparing on leaving, then spotted the bear he had knocked out. "Oh. You should find a better hiding place. Who knows when that bear might wake up or if there are more large animals like it." Keisuke suggested that Karin find a better hiding spot as he pointed at the huge unconscious bear. "And one last thing..."
"Huh?"
"If you ever feel like you have uneasy vibes from certain people... run as fast as you can and don't look back." Keisuke told Karin, before running off and jumping from tree-to-tree.
"R-right!" Karin responded as he jumped from tree-to-tree. She took a few steps forward toward and watched a few leaves green leaves fall onto the ground. 'Keisuke. I hope to see you again, someday!' Karin let out a bright smile after learning that she met someone who cares for her-other than her mother.
