I DON'T WANT TO BE AN ANT IN YOUR WORLD

( A CONFESSION OF LOVE, AND MANY THINGS )

This story was inspired by the song "One day" by Tate McRae.

Also, English is not my first language, so apologies in advance for any mistakes you may find.

This one has been sitting in my drafts for too many months, feels good to finally publish it !

"I don't want to be an ant in your world.

I don't really have anything against ants, but have you ever tried to recognize one from another ? It's impossible. And I don't want that for us. I want us to recognize each other even from a thousand miles apart. I want us to be able to say "It's you", even when blind, deaf and old. I want us to know each other like people, neighbors, friends, partners, lovers, spouses. I want us to know all our versions, explore all possibilities, discover all identities. I want us to know each other without judgment, fear, or regrets.

I want to be a part of your world. Any part, any part you are willing to give me, I'll become. I'll become the stars, the moon, the sun, the sea, the sand, the dreams, the night and the sky. Anything you'll give me. I'll transform, bones morphing and breaths shortening to become what I was always meant to be. I'll break my own heart twice over, just to accommodate you and your power. I'll let my blood drip down my wrists just to know you are real, not an illusion, please not an illusion. I'll go to war with myself, bruises and hunger and pain and blood. I'll become what I always meant to be, no matter the price. I'll spend my eternity with you, hands linked and tears in my eyes.

Anything but an ant. Never before but for you, for you I will beg, grovel at your feet with hands pried together. Not an ant. It's too scary of a world for such a small something. I will fight you, the only time I'll ever do so. Not an ant. I'd rather disappear than us losing each other in the crowd, never to meet again.

We were not made to be strangers. We were made for eternity, for pain and suffering, for order and chaos. We were made, yes. But witness, witness us become something more.

I'll never be an ant in your world."
