Hello everyone! I haven't written for the Haikyuu fandom for a bit, and I've never written a Hanamaki and Matsukawa centric story, but this was super fun to write! I love this prompt so much, and this was also a request from a_sharee993 on Instagram. To request a story of your own leave a comment here or DM me on Instagram. Enjoy!

NOTE: I haven't proofread this yet, so if you see a mistake, let me know and I'll get it fixed.

The sharp taps of the keyboard bounced off the walls of the apartment. Hanamaki was originally concerned that the tapping might wake up the sleeping man behind him but based off the snores that kept coming from the bed, he assumed it would be okay. Glancing behind himself once again, Hanamaki adjusted the angle of his monitor to assure that the light was not shining towards the bed before he continued on.

Hanamaki stubbornly refused to look at the clock as he attempted to finish up. He knew he should be going to bed, but he also knew that if he stopped working on this, it would be a while before he resumed it again. It gave him a little comfort to see how much he had accomplished in a short time period. He might be in between jobs at the moment, but that didn't mean that he didn't keep himself busy by doing small assistant tasks to earn money and keep his resume fresh.

After another couple of hours of consolidating reports, and verifying numbers, Hanamaki was officially done. He mindlessly shut off his PC and slouched in his chair exhausted. Being struck with an intense urge to move after having been sitting for so long, Hanamaki quietly snuck out of the room and into the kitchen. He flicked on the lights and stretched his arms over his head, choosing to ignore the slight pops and cracks he heard as he moved his arms around.

He grabbed a glass to fill with water but stopped when he saw the leftover coffee in pot. He knew with how late it was that he shouldn't, but coffee never seemed to have too much of an effect on him at night and he could feel a headache coming on. He thought about it for a minute longer, but before he could decide what to do, a hand appeared and emptied the remaining coffee into the sink.

"Don't even think about it." A voice grumbled.

"I have no idea what you're talking about. I wasn't thinking." Hanamaki almost faceplanted himself as soon as the words left his mouth. Maybe he really wasn't using his brain.

"Yes, I know, you're not very good at thinking that's what's concerning." Hanamaki might be tired, but he quickly determined he was not too tired to swing an arm out and smack the taller man on the bicep.

"Why are you even out here?" Hanamaki questioned to change the subject.

"I had siblings Makki, it was too quiet."

"Stupid sixth sense." Hanamaki grumbled. "Come on, Matsu, let's go to bed."

Hanamaki downed a glass of water and then held out his hand to Matsukawa. He had expected to drag the other man back to their bedroom and promptly faceplant the bed, but he was caught off guard when Matsukawa took his hand and pulled them closer together. There was no time to react before Matsukawa slowly started to sway to a silent beat.

"What are you doing?" Hanamaki asked while laughter in his voice.

"It's three in the morning, don't question it"

Hanamaki really wanted to argue, but he had to admit that the man had a point. He gently swayed his body along the unknown beat. It was difficult to figure out what to do without knowing the music, so Hanamaki resigned himself to simply following Matsukawa. That turned out to be a good move as they grew closer and started to speed up.

"Watch the fridge." Matsukawa laughed as he pushed Hanamaki away from him for a spin. He narrowly avoided slamming his own hip into a chair. It turned into a weird sport to not kick the trashcan or smack a limb into furniture. Neither one of them seemed to notice their precarious situation as Matsukawa started humming aloud and singing a few words as the night stretched on.

Considering that neither one of them were dancers, Hanamaki had to admit that they put on an admiral show as they spun and stepped around the room. In reality they probably would have embarrassed themselves in public, but neither one of them seemed to care as laughter permeated the apartment. It started in small giggles as they tried not to trip over their own feet, but it quickly turned into full hearted laughs as they spun enough times to make themselves dizzy.

Matsukawa's humming faltered as he forgot part of the song and decided to switch to another. The new song didn't have the same tempo, but it's not as if that was going to stop them. He's pretty sure he felt Hanamaki give his hand an offended tug from having his supposed rhythm interrupted, but there was no way to really tell.

Their impromptu dance session finally came to an end when Hanamaki's foot collided with the trash can. Thankfully the trash can only bumped into the wall and remained upright instead of flying across the room and scattering trash in its wake. Matsukawa quickly shot his arms out to steady the shorter man and the two of them burst into a fit of giggles. In all honesty, they couldn't tell you what had caused them both to laugh so much, but the joyous sounds of each other's laughter filling the kitchen did wonders to their souls. They couldn't remember the last time to laugh without a care in the world.

"Should we be concerned about our mental health?" Hanamaki asked as he calmed down.

"Nonsense, dance sessions in the early hours of the morning are perfectly healthy."

"Really? Says who?"

"Says me. Just now." Matsukawa confirmed with a huge smile on his face. The giggles returned as Hanamaki found he was too tired to even try to think of an argument for that. Instead of worrying about it, he chose to instead treasure this moment. The opportunity to have such an intimate moment with the man he loved without feeling the weight of the world around them, even if just for a moment, was a rare and beautiful thing.

"Come on, Makki." Matsukawa seemed to have had the same thoughts as his eyes grew soft and he took Hanamaki's hand once again. "Laugh with me again."
