CHAPTER 2: The lunch break:

Lunch time arrived and Amy walked in the cafeteria with her tray, searching for a free table where she could eat without being noticed.

As she was walking to a table she heard her name and looked over her shoulder to find Bernadette smiling at her and calling her over. Amy inspected the table Bernadette was sitting at and she could count over five people sitting with the pretty blonde.

Amy decided to go and see what Bernadette wanted, when she got to the table Bernadette said.

"Hey Amy, sit with us. Guys this is Amy, we are in the same biology class and Amy these are my friends, Leonard, Penny, Raj and Sheldon and this guys here is my boyfriend, Howard."

"Hello nice to meet you all." Amy said, shyly.

Amy sat down at the table. She didn't know what to say so she mostly looked at her plate.

After a little while, the guy named Leonard spoke up.

"So Amy, tell us more about you"

"Oh, hum, well I am 21 and I am studying to be a neuroscientist. I'm French and my family is living 2 hours away. I also have an older brother and an older sister."

"Really, you're French?" The gorgeous looking Penny said.

"Yes, I am"

"Well, I am impressed and that something I am not a lot. Your English has been impeccable so far" Said Sheldon a little arrogantly.

Amy was a little taken aback but was able to stammer

"Euh, yeah, it's because my mother is from the United- States, she was born in California and so she taught English to my siblings and me."

"Hey what a coincidence I am from California too" Said Bernadette's boyfriend, Howard.

Amy smiled politely and asked them;

"So do all of you guys come from the US?"

"Nope I come from India." Raj said.

"Really? Oh my God India looks so beautiful!"

"Well, there's a lot of mortal diseases and poverty, it's not that great." Sheldon said.

"Hey! Stop insulting my country!" Said Raj defensively

Sheldon only rolled his eye. While Amy watched the scene more and more fascinated by Sheldon, he seemed to know a lot of things, maybe he was a genius.

"So which states where you guys born in?"Amy tried again.

"I was born in Hell" Said Sheldon

"I'm sorry?"

"I was born in Texas" As if it explained everything.

"Um okay, I guess. What about you Penny?"

"I was born in Nebraska, it was so great, I had a farm and I was so free I loved it." Her eyes sparkled at the notion of her beloved home.

"And I am from New Jersey" Said Leonard.

"And I am from Arizona." Bernadette replied.

"That's great, to have so much diversity in just one friendship." Said Amy amazed.

"Yeah it really is. So you told us your mother was from California so why did she come in France." Penny asked.

"Well, she met my father when he was in California for a business trip, he comes from France, he stayed there for four months and so they started dating. My father had to come back here but he came to see her every holiday, my father was transferred to California and they got married two years after. Then a year later, my dad began to suffer from a disease, it was curable but it was really expansive and my father didn't have to nationality because it is a really long process so they had to come live here. He is now okay but they decided to stay here because, well, we never know."

"Wow that's a love story made in Heaven." Bernadette smiled.

"I guess it is" Said Amy chuckling nervously. Amy looked up and found Sheldon staring at her from the corner of his eyes smiling a little. When he caught her eyes on him he quickly looked down at his plate. Amy could feel butterflies her stomach from the intensity of his gaze. Amy shook her head to wake up a little from her daydream.

"How long have you been in France?" Amy asked to clear her mind.

"We all have been here since the summer"

"That's not that long, why did you move out?"

"My dad had a heart attack a few years ago, he survived but he and my mother needed change so when one of her aunts died and left her her vacation home here, they decided to move my MeeMaw, my siblings and I here to get a change of atmosphere." Sheldon said.

"Oh, I am sorry for your father it must have been painful." Amy said with empathy. "But by the way, what is a MeeMaw?"

"It is how I call my grandmother, we are really close."

"Well, that's cute. So what about you guys?"

"My sister is studying law at Cambridge so I needed to do something to impress my parents, soooo here I am." Raj replied.

"That's original" Laughed Amy.

"Leonard felt the need to leave his family and he felt that France was interesting. I decided to come with him because I would have missed him too much and because I was thinking of returning to the university to study art because I want to be an actress." Said Penny

"That's amazing and really romantic, and also quite brave."

"For my part, my dad is a cop so he was transferred here and technically he's supposed to stay until he's retired." Bernadette said.

"And for me, my dad left my mom and I when I was around four, and a year ago we found out that he moved in France and so my mother felt the need to find him. Anyway she also wanted to get a change of atmosphere so we decided to stay here whether she finds him or not." Howard said.

"I am sorry for you but you will see it's great in here." Amy smiled.

"Maybe we should meet to go shopping, the three of us, you know, a girls day. It could be fun." Penny invited.

"Of course, it would be amazing. What do you think, Amy?"

"Yeah, it seems cool. Maybe we should exchange numbers?"

"Yes, of course."

The girls exchanged numbers and it was the time to go back in class so they parted ways.
