I was laying in bed, on my back, hands folded on my stomach. I didn't sleep. I don't sleep much, never really did. Especially since I sometimes feel more awake when it's dark. Must be the Bat in me. I thought. Suddenly the light comes on, blinding me for a second, and two guards come in. I sit up on my elbows to see better from my place on the top bunk to the left.
"Rise and shine, ladies. It's six am. Time to say "goodbye" to America," the guard to the left said. She was short, maybe 5'3 with dark red hair that is slicked back into a bun. Her name was Tony. Born and raised in Brooklyn, her father was a lawyer and her mother a surgeon. A year ago she just graduated from medical school, following in her mother's footsteps, and was engaged to Simon Davis. He was killed by a jealous ex of his, who is a prisoner here, which is why Tony decided to become a guard here. However, for reasons I have yet to uncover, Tony made a deal with said prisoner, and for now will do nothing to avenge her fiancé's death.
I watch as my two cellmates are put into handcuffs. Justice, Jay as she likes to be called, was also pretty short, standing at 5'2 with dark brown hair and eyes to match. She was innocent. She came to America because she got a nice promotion at work. Unfortunately for her, she was at the wrong place at the wrong time and was arrested on charges for drug dealing and possession. My other cellmate, Devyn, was towering over Jay and Tony. She was six feet tall with blonde hair and green eyes. Like Jay, she too was innocent. Devyn had a twin named Katrina. Katrina was sick, mentally. She often abused Devyn and everyone around her. Katrina ended up committing suicide, but made it look like Devyn killed her.
Jay looks at the craving she made on the wall from the top bunk to the right. I sigh as I watch them walk out. They are planning to break out. I know without help, they won't make it out of here alive. Again, I sigh and look at the craving. It's the symbol of Nightwing, my father. Jay had a crush on him when she was younger. I asked her why Nightwing once. "Because he's not Batman," she said. If only she knew.
I jump down from my bunk, looking up at it again and said, "You just have to follow me around everywhere, huh?" and made my way out to help my innocent cellmates.
