A/N: Before you read this it's kind of important to know that for this story to work this is an AU where Tiger Widow Venom can kill a Djinn XD
-
"Tiger… widow… venom?"
Nadakhan's hands clutched his chest, fingernails penetrating the firm leather of his chest plate as if his desperation alone could pry out the poisoned dart which was buried deep beneath. All he could feel was the red-hot flower of pain blossoming and bleeding out from beneath his hand, spreading across his torso to his shoulders. Although he tried desperately to stay floating where he had been when he was struck, he was losing the wrestle with the grip of death, finding his body falling, falling on its own, he didn't tell his body to fall, failing to work as his senses numbed and all he could feel and all he could think was pain, pain, dying - he was dying.
The hellish sound of the levitating sky islands around and beneath him crumbling as he lost control of them – and, at the same time, lost control of his body, as if they were one – was comparable to a thousand tortured souls screaming and crying in his ears. This only served as an agonising reminder of his own fallen realm. To think he'd been such a fool as to try and bring Djinnjago back, only to watch it fall and die for an even more painful second time. All his hard work – vanishing, just like his feeble lifeforce. His heart, beating deafeningly hard, trying desperately to pump untainted blood around his body, so hard he couldn't think, he couldn't breathe – his body was failing, soon to be nothing but a corpse, nothing but bones, dust. Just like his beautiful Djinnjago, just like his father. He had failed.
Flintlocke's knuckles were red as he clasped the trigger of his gun with a vice grip. His heart was beating out of his chest. His whole body began to shake, as if it was realising what he'd done before the gravity of the situation had settled in his mind. He had just shot his captain, one who he had known and trusted, and one who he had loyally served for so long that one day it had become second nature. Tears threatened to collect at the surface of his eyes, but the fact that the island around him was crumbling and about to fall at any moment stole his attention as he sprinted – hobbled, toward the ninja, before it was too late to tell them, to warn them.
This moment, in which Nadakhan was contemplating his whole life, the world, everything he had ever known, was when they both remembered a Djinn law that was applicable to the situation. One that could change the course of the ninjas' lives, in every lifetime, forever.
Flintlocke's heart sank. He would bear the guilt of this moment forever. In the rush of the battle, he had forgotten to warn the ninja of a Djinn's dying wish.
Through gritted teeth, Nadakhan managed, "I wish that… those who took all from me but myself… lose themselves in their own respect."
"No!" screamed Flintlocke. He fell to his knees, cursing himself. "How could I be such a fool…"
"What? Why did Nadakhan just make a wish?" Jay pleaded, voice barely audible over the sound of the islands disintegrating all around them, extremely confused, terrified, and devastated all at once. "If he can't wish for himself, then why did he just do that?"
His heart rate started to rise rapidly. Despite still awaiting a response from Flintlocke, the expression on his face was sour enough to tell him this was incredibly bad. Jay felt his heart beating out of his chest, the type of panic that makes your stomach turn, that makes every word feel like vomit in spirit.
"It's to do with Djinn law," Flintlocke explained, his face crumpling and his hands covering his head, as if it would protect him from the truth of the situation and make it less real. "If a Djinn is dying, he gets one exclusive, unbreakable wish that he can make. I'm sorry."
Jay drew in a shaky breath. He looked around at his friends, his brothers. He looked at Nya.
"Nya!" He started to limp towards her, desperately reaching out his hands. But what would be the point of wishing Nadakhan wasn't a Djinn if he had just made his dying wish? Jay didn't even know what said wish would do, let alone if his own final wish could stay as he planned it.
As he stumbled over to Nya, the one person he'd ever truly loved, the one who'd made him feel so many emotions he'd never known were possible, the realisation of what was happening hit him just like the poison dart. It hurt that much too.
"Jay…" she moved her arms to reveal a splatter of tiger widow venom on her chest – she had been hit with the poison too.
"Nya!" Jay screamed, "The poison hit you too!"
Tears immediately prickled at the surface of Jay's eyeballs, making everything look watery. Maybe the fact that he couldn't see the love of his life dying with the clearness and clarity that he usually saw the world in would make it hurt less, or would make it less real. However, despite the comforting lie he wanted to believe, it was all too real, and he would never be able to forget this pain that violated every cell in his body.
The rest of the ninja all ran to where Jay was now holding Nya, almost trying to convince her to stay awake, to stay with him, to be with him forever like how his life was supposed to be. Without Nya in his life, what was he supposed to do? Everything would be wrong.
She was dying. He could've prevented this, somehow, he knew it because his brain wouldn't stop repeating it – he'd always known he wasn't good enough for Nya, but this time really proved it. How could he be so… so incapable?
"Only one wish Jay," Nadakhan spoke over the sounds of Jay bawling and Kai trying to talk to Nya, trying to keep her conscious long enough so that maybe they could save her when this was all over, even if he secretly knew his hope wasn't enough to stop this. "Wish me mortal, and she dies. Decide too late… both I and your beloved Nya are dead."
"You… have to make your last wish," pleaded Nya in her dying moments. Jay pulled her closer to his chest, holding her close for the very last time. "You're the only one who can stop him, Jay…"
Jay's tears displayed a wobbling painting of grief. His speech was almost indecipherable as he uncontrollably wailed. "No. Not if that means losing you!"
Nya smiled softly, though her face was growing pale. "I never wanted to be part of your boy's club anyway…"
"No… Nya, don't say that…"
"Guess it's true. The greatest love stories do always end in tragedy."
Drawing one final breath, Nya's body… failed. It was over.
In that moment, however, Jay - remembered.
You need to use your final wish when it's said from the heart!
"I wish you had taken my hand, and no one ever found that teapot in the first place." Whispered Jay through the waterfall of his tears.
A wave of shock overflowed through Nadakhan's body. A wish that would… undo it all, a wish that would turn the clocks back to a time before Djinnjago's rebirth and death. A wish that would save Nadakhan's life but would mean he became a prisoner to the teapot once again.
With a defeated sigh. "Your wish is yours to keep."
The ninja gasped as Nadakhan collapsed to the ground fully, his body cold, dead. From his hand, he dropped a pocket watch, which sprung open on its own. The hands on the clock turned back, back, back before all those wishes had been made, as memories faded into view but in reverse order, and colours flashed and danced before Jay's eyes; everything was spinning as he rewatched everything happen again. His memories…
Even before you saw a glimpse into our future, I saw it too.
We're a team, we stick together!
Thanks, but I can stick up for myself.
And just what are you implying by 'we'?
…suddenly, everything materialized, and the ninja were back when times were simpler, hiding from the paparazzi.
"They're coming, take cover!"
"Nya, you need to hide too!" Jay pleaded, looking down at Nya, who was about to be caught in the spotlight of the news helicopter that was searching for the ninja. Groaning, he emphasised the importance of hiding, demanding, "Oh, forget what I said! Just take my hand!"
"Just take his hand Nya, or else we're gonna… be… spotted…" Cole trailed off, suddenly being hit by a tidal wave of déjà vu. Although, this could be normal, considering the many times over the past months the ninja had been in the same situation… right?
"Nya, take my hand," Jay repeated, this time with more clarity. And she did.
Nya and Jay stared at each other with a sense of bewilderment, grief and joy all rolled into one. Jay had just seen her die – he had felt as his soulmate drew her final, last breaths, growing pale, carving a lifeless wax figure, nothing but an empty shell. But she was back, the one person he'd ever truly loved, the one person he'd ever wanted to love for the rest of his life.
"I remember… I remember it all!" Nya exclaimed, to the mass confusion of the rest of the team besides Jay, who was excitedly holding both her hands with newfound sparks in his eyes and a beaming smile on his freckled face. He wrapped both his arms around her waist and enveloped her in the tightest, warmest hug he'd ever give, like he could lose her again at any given moment, revelling in her warmth like her body could go limp and cold and lifeless all of a sudden.
"Um, I'm getting the strangest feeling of déjà vu…" Lloyd rubbed his forehead, as if he had a headache, or there was something on the tip of his tongue that he couldn't quite grasp. "Have we done this before?"
Kai just winced at the display of affection. "Gross!"
"I'm glad they finally came around, you know?" smiled Cole, knowing his best friend was happy.
This calm moment was interrupted – as it always tends to be, for the ninja – by Jay noticing Zane was zoning out. Something which, despite him being a nindroid, Zane tended to do when he felt off.
"Zane, you alright buddy? Something up?" he asked with a colour of concern in his tone, making sure to never let Nya go. He never wanted to feel her body ever devoid of life again.
"I feel… strange, like I am warmer than usual," he replied, shaking his head. "I am sure it is nothing. Just…" he trailed off.
"Come to think of it, I feel colder than usual!" Exclaimed Cole, rubbing the back of his neck. "I dunno, it's kinda weird right? Not to put a damper on this happy moment for you guys, but…"
"Oh come on Cole, quit it with the Jealous schtick!" complained Jay, suspicious that his best friend was jealous of his newly properly established relationship, despite the fact that Cole and Jay had already fought many times over Nya and left it in the past.
"What? Jay, why would you even suggest that?" Their conversation evolved into mindless bickering.
Feeling a cold wave of dread rush over her body, Nya remembered Nadakhan's dying wish.
"I wish that… those who took all from me but myself… lose themselves in their own respect."
With a fresher body and a clearer mind, she decided to try testing to see if this meant what she thought it meant – she held out a hand and tried to make a ball of water. A blue spark flew out.
Her eyes grew wide. "First. Spinjitsu. Master…"
