Chapter 1

Your parents will always say to you that there is no such thing as monsters. For me, however, I've seen plenty of monsters in a short amount of time. They come in many shapes, sizes, and attitudes. Some are small and passive, while others are large and aggressive. But something that revealed itself recently was nothing like nothing anyone had seen before.

My name is T.K. Takaishi, and I am a Digidestined. I possess the Crest of Hope and my partner Digimon is Patamon. At first, there were only a few of us, but as time went on, more kids became Digidestined. For awhile, all was normal until some strange incidents started happening around Japan.

It all began early in December. The snow was falling, people were doing their holiday shopping, and my mom was writing an article on the historical significance of toilet paper. It was a late, snowy night in Odaiba. I was sleeping in bed when it started.

Odaiba, Japan, Takaishi Residence, December 1st, 12:00 a.m.

The bedroom was quiet and dark, with T.K. sleeping soundly. Moonlight was the only source of light coming into the whole apartment. T.K. began to wake up from his slumber, sweating profusely. He wiped the sweat from his forehead and rolled out of bed.

He went and sat on the couch in the living room, looking down at the newspapers on the coffee table. Most of the headlines are similar. "Ship Disasters Puzzle World," "Ships Obliterated By Mysterious Blinding Flash Of Fire," and "Digimon As Possible Cause Of Missing Vessels?" While T.K. was sitting on the couch, he got a message on his D-Terminal.

I need your help. Digimon are disappearing all over the Digital World and nobody knows why. Meet me in Toy Town at 8 a.m. and I'll tell you more.

"Why didn't they put their name on the message? It looks like we're needed regardless of who sent it. I wonder if the others got a similar message?" T.K. said.

T.K. got up off the couch and went back to his bedroom. He crawled back into his bed and thought about what he was going to do. When he figured it out, he quickly fell asleep.

While I was figuring all that out, in the Digital World, a large ship was sailing off the coast of File Island. Little did anyone know, what would happen next would rock the whole Digital World to its core.

A large pirate ship named Swordfish was sailing along the coast of File Island. The crew were relaxing and having a good time. A few seconds later, the pitch black sea began to light up. The Digimon look over the side to see what it is, but the ship bursts into flames, setting the ship ablaze.

The Digimon that weren't instantly killed tried their best to save the ship. They try everything they can, even sending a distress signal. All hope was lost when the ship exploded, splitting the ship into two pieces and sending debris into the night sky. A huge mushroom cloud can be seen from miles away.

In the morning, T.K.'s alarm goes off at 7 a.m. He quickly gets dressed and runs out to the living room, where he sees his mother sitting on the couch watching the news.

"Well, you're up early," Nancy said.

"I gotta go out, mom," T.K. said.

"Where to?" Nancy asked.

"The Digital World," T.K. responded.

"Oh, I see. Just be careful, okay," Nancy said.

:I will, I just need to call my friends first," T.K. said.

T.K. uses his D-Terminal to message his friends for assistance. He waited a few minutes, but he didn't get a response from anyone. T.K. waited a few more minutes and still no response.

"Is everyone still asleep?" T.K. said.

T.K. pulls out his Digivice and opens a portal to the Digital World through his moms computer. T.K. and Patamon quickly arrive in the Digital World. They land just outside of Toy Town on File Island just before 8 o'clock.

File Island is a small island in the middle of the Net Ocean with several villages scattered throughout the island. One of which is Toy Town, a village of toys forgotten by children. When we got there, we noticed something wasn't right.

"We're here Patamon, remember this place?" T.K. asked.

"Yes, I was locked in a chest," Patamon answered.

"Lets head to the center of town," T.K. said.

T.K. and Patamon wondered through town and noticed that the town seemed barren. It was almost like the town was completely abandoned. There wasn't a single Digimon roaming the town, aside from Patamon. The silence was a bit worrying for them.

"Keep on guard Patamon, I don't like this one bit," T.K. said.

T.K. and Patamon continue to make their way through Toy Town when they spot someone standing in the middle of town. They see a little girl with blonde hair, blue eyes, pale skin, and wearing gothic attire. T.K. and the girl quickly lock eyes and stare at each other for a few seconds. T.K. slowly walks up to her and begins to talk to her.

"Hello, who are you? Are you lost?" T.K. asked.

"I'm Alice and no I'm not lost. Are you Takeru Takaishi?" Alice said calmly.

"Yes, but you can just call me T.K. How do you know my name, I've never seen you before?" T.K. asked.

"I know all the Digidestined by name. I'm a Digidestined too" Alice replied.

Alice pulls out her Digivice and T.K. notices that it looks different than the D-3 he and his friends have. T.K. looks around and sees that Alice doesn't have a Digimon next to her.

"I've never seen a device like that before. Where is your Digimon? You shouldn't be walking around here by yourself," T.K. said.

"You mean Dobermon? He's lying in the shade over there," Alice replied

The goth girl points to a nearby tree with a big doglike Digimon sleeping under it.

"So what are you doing here, Alice?" T.K. asked

"Did you get a message last night?" Alice said.

"I did. How do you know about that?" T.K. asked.

"I got one too," Alice replied.

"If we did, then my friends should've gotten it too," T.K. said.

"Why aren't they here right now?" Alice said.

"I tried, but I couldn't get a hold of them," T.K. replied.

"It looks like it's just us for now. We have to go. The Digital World need us," Alice said.

"Yes, it does. Is it me or does this place seem like it's too quiet?" T.K. asked.

"That's because everyone's staying inside after what happened last night," Alice said.

"Last night?" T.K. asked.

"I'll explain on the way," Alice said.

We began our journey toward the edge of the island. I wasn't expecting to meet another Digidestined. Especially one that wasn't a part of our group.I didn't think there were more out there besides us. I wonder what her story is?

"So a ship is missing?"T.K. asked?

"That's what is being said around here. I didn't see anything myself," Alice replied.

"Maybe we can find some clues and find out what happened," T.K. said.

T.K., Alice, and their Digimon reach the edge of the island, north west of Toy Town. They begin their search and find pieces of wood and debris from the ship. They didn't find anything else except pieces that were burnt black.

"I don't see anything else here," Patamon said.

"I think you're right, Patamon. This might be all that's left of it except for what's out in the water, but It's really deep out there," T.K. explained.

"We're not the only ones looking for answers. Look over there," Alice said.

They look over and see two Digimon standing on the beach. One looked like a mermaid with blonde hair, and the other one has green skin. The two Digimon began to walk toward the two Digidestined.

"Who are you two?" T.K. asked kindly.

"I'm Mermaimon and this is Ranamon," Mermainmon said.

"Hello, and who are you two?" Ranamon asked.

"I'm T.K.; this is Patamon, and they are Alice and Dobermon. What are you guys doing out here?" T.K. said.

"We were gonna ask you two the same thing," Ranamon said.

"A ship went missing last night and we want to know what caused it," Alice explained.

"You're doing that too. No one seems to want to investigate this," Mermaimon said.

"Why not?" Patamon asked curiously.

"This is the third one in two weeks," Mermaimon said.

"The third one?" T.K. said.

"There's no evidence of who or what's doing it, and our leaders are not happy about it," Ranamon said.

"Who would they be?" T.K. asked.

"Neptunemon and Ancient Mermaimon," Ranamon said.

"May we help you with your search?" Alice asked politely.

"Yes, you can. We're going to head down the coast and see if we can find anything. You can tag along if you want," Mermaimon said.

"Of course we will. Where are we heading next?" T.K. asked.

"A few miles down the coast. We'll take my boat to get there," Ranamon said.

"Your boat?" Alice asked.

"Yes ma'am, just wait and see darling" Ranamon said.

The group walk up to a small dock with a boat tied to it. A long, black speed boat with fins and an enclosed canopy. The canopy opens up, and the boat has a red leather interior with two bench seats.

"Welcome aboard The Black Marlin," Ranamon said.

"Looks nice," T.K. complimented.

"And it's the fastest thing on the water. Hop aboard darlings," Ranamon.

We boarded Ranamon's boat and made the trip down the beach. She wasn't lying when she said it was the fastest thing on the water. We would arrive there very shortly. While we were heading down the island coast, I messaged Kari about what has happened so far.

Odaiba, Japan, Kamiya Residence, 9:00 a.m.

"Tai, look at this message I got from T.K," Kari said.

"What's it say?" Tai asked.

"From what this says, there is a lot happening in the Digital World and none of it is good. Missing ships, disappearing Digimon, and I got this other message from who knows who," Kari explained.

"What other message?" Tai asked.

"I need your help. Digimon are disappearing all over the Digital World and nobody knows why. Meet me in Toy Town at 8 a.m. and I'll tell you more. It doesn't say who sent it," Kari explained.

"Well, that's strange. So is T.K. there right now?" Tai asked.

"Yes, but he's not alone. He says he met another Digidestined that we've never seen before," Kari said.

"Another Digidestined. Who would that be?" Gatomon asked.

"He didn't say. We need to round up the others and head to the Digital World," Kari said.

Back in the Digital World, T.K. and his new friends are traveling down the island coast at breakneck speed. All seemed normal until they saw something off in the distance.

"Out there!" Mermaimon shouted.

"I see it," Ranamon said.

"Get closer, Ranamon," Mermaimon said.

Ranamon drives the boat closer to a structure sitting on the shore. As the gang get closer, they see that it is a ship listing against the coast of the island. The ship had a name on the side: Swordfish.

"Why is it split in half!?" Ranamon exclaimed.

"I don't know. By the look of it, I'd say there was definitely an explosion," Mermaimon stated.

"That ship wasn't carrying anything that would cause an explosion to that degree," Ranamon said.

"Could've been a mine or a collision," T.K. said.

"They didn't report a mine or collision," Mermaimon replied.

"So what did they report?" T.K. asked.

"This is the message we got," Ranamon said.

Ranamon played the message on the boats stereo system. All that can be heard are a series of beeping sounds. The sound keeps going until it abruptly stops.

"It was just a bunch of beeps," Patamon said.

"It's Morse code," Mermaimon said.

"We don't understand Morse code," T.K. said.

"It says there was a bright flash of light. Everything burst into flames. The ship is listing and sinking quickly. Trying to… and it stops there," Ranamon explained.

"I think it may have been attacked by something," Alice said.

"How so?" T.K. asked.

"Look at the pieces towards the middle. It looks like something ran into it or maybe some kind of beam was shot at it. Now what Digimon it was is anyone's guess," Alice explained.

Ranamon parks the boat along the shore and drops anchor. Ranamon jumps out of the boat and begins walking towards the wreck. Mermaimon jumps out following her with haste.

"It looks like no ones tried to loot anything," Mermaimon said.

"What's there to loot? This vessel is only good for firewood now," Ranamon said.

"So we found one. Where are the other two?" T.K. asked.

"They're lost, we don't know where they are," Ranamon answered.

"We'll do anything we can to help," T.K. said.

"Thank you, we need to report this to Neptunemon and Ancient Mermaimon asap," Ranamon said.

I looked to see if my friends had gotten the message yet. To my relief they did. They were at Toy Town wondering where I was.

"If you have this under control, we need to go," T.K. said.

"Where to?" Ranamon asked.

"Toy Town, my friends are there waiting for me," T.K. said.

"We'll take you guys back up there," Mermaimon said.

"That would be nice," Alice said.

We quickly made our way into Toy Town to meet with the other Digidestined. It wasn't long until we ran into each other since nobody else was wandering the town.

"We're here," T.K. announced.

"Where were you?" Kari asked.

"Down the coast," T.K. replied.

"So who are they?" Ken asked.

"Everyone, this is Alice and Dobermon. Alice, meet Kari, Davis, Yolei, Cody, and Ken," T.K. said.

"Hello," Alice said softly.

"Now that we've gotten that out of the way, we need to get down to the bottom this," T.K. said.

"So what's been happening here?" Cody asked.

"From what we were told by those two Digimon Alice and I had met earlier. There have been ships being attacked out in the water, and it's got a lot of Digimon scared," T.K. explained.

"We'll put a stop to it! Right guys!?" Davis said.

"Yes we will!" Yolei said

"So what do we do first?" Cody asked.

"I say we ask around the island and see if anyone has any leads. We can start here and make our way to Primary Village," T.K. said.

The Digidestined split up around the town and asked around for any leads. Unfortunately, they didn't find anything helpful in Toy Town or Factorial Town. They spent all day asking Digimon around File Island, going from village to village. Eventually, the Digidestined made their way to Primary Village, or so they thought.

File City, 7:00 p.m.

"Where's Primary Village!? It was right here!" T.K. exclaimed.

"This is the biggest one we've seen so far," Ken said.

"Maybe it's changed or moved to another place. It has been three years since you were here last here," Kari stated.

"Lets go have a look around," Yolei said.

"I think we should make this quick. It's already starting to rain," Cody said.

The group begins exploring the new village. There are many Digimon socializing around the town. They see a large water fountain in the middle of the village and many places to shop and eat. Kari began to notice that T.K. had a concerned look on his face.

"Are you okay, T.K.?" Kari asked.

"So much has changed around here. This place is pretty much a small town," T.K. said.

"You'll always have those memories of Primary Village," Patamon said.

"Thank you, Patamon. We need to find out what's going on," T.K. said.

"There's a Digimon over there we can ask," Gatomon said.

T.K. and Kari walk over to a Digimon that resembled a female angel. She had four golden wings, blonde hair, green eyes, and a sword. The Digimon was sitting on a bench when T.K. and Kari walked up to her.

"Can I help you two?" Darcmon asked.

"Do you know anything about what has been happening around here?" Kari asked.

"No, I don't, nobody does. My superiors don't even know," Darcmon replied.

"How would they be?" Kari asked.

"Seraphimon, Cherubimon, and Ophanimon," Darcmon said.

"Maybe they can help us?" T.K. said.

"I can take you to them if you wish," Darcmon said.

"That would be nice, but it looks like it's going to storm soon," Kari said.

"It's a thunderstorm. You kids might want to find shelter soon," Darcmon said.

"Can you give us some coordinates," T.K. asked.

"It's a huge, lofty castle on the Folder Continent. I'm heading that way tomorrow. Here are the coordinates," Darcmon said.

"Thank you for your help. We should find somewhere to rest before we go back home," T.K. said.

"I think I saw an Inn down the street," Kari said.

We made our way to a small inn to rest and go over our next move. The storm hit as soon as we got inside. It was raining hard, and the thunder shook the ground when it struck.

"So what now? We've went all over the island and found nothing," Yolei said.

"We need to go see those three Digimon on Server that Darcmon works for," Kari said.

"Folder is a big continent, so they could be anywhere," Cody said.

"She did say they lived in a huge, lofty castle. There can't be too many like that," Kari said.

"We don't have any other leads, so I say we go pay them a visit," Davis said.

"I agree, but how are we going to find them?" Ken asked.

"Darcmon gave us the location. We'll meet at that water fountain in the middle of town when we come back to the Digital World. Alice, I don't know where you're from, but you might want to go back home too. Alice are you listening?" T.K. said.

T.K. looks around looking for Alice, but she was nowhere to be seen.

"Where is Alice? T.K. asked.

"I haven't seen her since we got here. Maybe she's still out there somewhere," Kari said.

T.K. went outside to look for Alice and her Digimon. It was still raining hard and it was very dark outside. He sees Alice and Dobermon sitting at a small diner across from where he was. He ran across the street with Patamon in his arms.

"There you are. I was looking for you," T.K. said.

"Are you hungry? I'll buy if you want," Alice asked politetly.

"Well I don't want to be rude," T.K. said.

"Have a seat," Alice said.

"Can I ask you something, Alice?" T.K. asked.

"What is it?" Alice replied.

"Since we're working together on this, I was wondering if I could know more about you better?" T.K. asked kindly.

"Oh, I understand. My name is Alice McCoy. I'm from Shinjuku. I have a brother, and my dad is a professor," Alice explained.

"Well, that's a start. I have a brother too," T.K. said.

"Yamato Ishida," Alice said.

"How did you know that?" T.K. asked.

"I know all the Digidestined by name, and what Digimon they're partnered with," Alice said.

T.K. sat there silently trying to process what Alice had said. Wondering how she could possibly know all of them by name and Digimon. Before T.K. could ask her how she would know, the ground began to shake.

"Did anyone else feel that?" Patamon asked.

"It's just the storm, Patamon," T.K. said.

The wind began to blow faster and the rain was coming down harder than it was before. The ground shook again, but there wasn't a sound of thunder accompanying the shaking. Dobermon's ears raised up when the ground shook again.

"That's not thunder," Alice said.

"Then what is it?" T.K. asked.

Seconds later the other Digidestined and their Digimon ran into the diner.

"T.K., something is out there!" Kari said.

"So much for dinner, lets go Alice," T.K. said.

"I'm with you, T.K.," Alice replied.

The group investigate outside in the rain and wind. It was difficult for them to see anything outside. They go down toward the File River beside the town. There is a big dock with some boats parked next to each other. One of which looked very familiar to T.K.

"The Black Marlin? That's Ranamon's boat," T.K. said.

"Who?" Kari asked.

"A Digimon Alice and I met this morning. If this is here, than she and Mermaimon are in town somewhere. Maybe we'll pay them a visit afterward," T.K. said.

They look around the dock and see another large pirate ship anchored in the river. The ground began to tremble again, but this time it was louder and made the children stagger.

"What ever it is it's close!" Yolei shouted.

The water began to flash repeatedly, and suddenly the entire area burst into flames that were as bright it could be seen from miles away. The burst of flame covered most of the boats and docks in a massive inferno that the rain couldn't put out.

"Everything's burning!" Kari screamed.

The whole dockside area kept burning with no sign of stopping. In the midst of the confusion, Kari saw something moving in the darkness. She could barely make out a large mass of darkness in the night.

"What's that!" Kari yelled.

"What's what!?" Davis replied.

"Up there!" Kari yelled.

All Kari can see through the darkness and rain is a large black body with bright orange eyes. The eyes point down toward the Digidestined's location. Kari locks eyes with whatever is starring down at her. The pirate ship that was on the other side of the dock explodes into a massive fireball and illuminates part of the creatures body. Kari takes a few steps backward in shock.

"It can't be," Kari said quietly.

It turns away and sinks into the water. As it leaves, lightning strikes and lights up the area, and Kari sees a bit more of the creature as it sinks below the water. Kari can hear screams off in the distance. She walks toward the edge of the water and clinches her fists angrily.

"You won't get away with this. Whatever you are," Kari said to herself.
