...

Hachiman looked out of the gallery of the palace at the kingdom of Lugnica, it had been over four decades since he had suddenly been teleported to this forsaken world.

It had quite the journey to where he stood, and all of it had most certainly not been pleasant.

"Father, please! We'll take you to the enchanted forest…we'll do something!"

"Raidon," Hachiman sighed as he forced his body to move and squeezed his son's arm, "This is not how the future king of Lugnica should behave; your mom has taught you better, respect that and accept what is to happen."

The Four-decade long journey in this strange world of magic, witches, their cults, scheming and wars was coming to an end…and somehow Hachiman knew that return by death was not going to work this time around.

"At this rate we will lose you!" Raidon sniffed, looking way too cute for a man who would soon be approaching his mid-thirties…or was I imagining it because he was my son?

"It is the price we had to pay for going against Pandora," I sighed as I held up my hand and took off my glove, the dark-purple miasma was flowing through my veins corroding away at my flesh and bones. This curse was going to kill me now, and there was little I, or anyone else, could do about it.

"Raidon," a curt voice interrupted our conversation, "Hold your head high and meet your father's eyes, is this the vision that you want your father to take to his afterlife?"

The proud form of the empress Felt Lugnica, who was also his wife, entered the room. She had been the reigning monarch of this country for the last Thirty Three years and yet somehow managed to retain a fair bit of her youthful charm and looks. Perhaps it was a divine protection?

Raidon sniffed again but rubbed his eyes and put a cap on the waterworks. Hachiman put a hand on his shoulders to comfort him, but ended up hugging him instead. The time here had certainly changed him. Soon his two daughters, Sophia and Komachi joined them and the waterworks began afresh with even Felt unable to hold back now. His death was a difficult time for the family, his close aides and even the entire country of Lugnica. He only wished his children were prepared and ready for what was to come, he bade his farewell to everyone else yesterday - Garfield, Reinhard, Felix, Crusch among others before retreating to his tower inside the palace. It was only his family now.

"Kids," Felt spoke after some time, "Let me have a moment with your father."

Raidon led his sisters out after a last hug, and the door to the bedroom was now closed.

"You know," I pulled Felt closer, "You may stop pretending to be the strong one now, it's just us."

Felt cried in my robe as I held her, the clever thief and subsequent empress melted like putty in my hands. Our difficult relationship was coming to an end, and cheesy as it was, I wanted to spend my last moments with the woman I had grown to love. We continued to bed and held each other for hours thereafter.

"I had half a mind to go through with Raidon's plan and throw you onto a carriage to the enchanted forest," Felt finally spoke.

"Back to Echidna's domain?" I blinked at her, "I knew you liked me, but isn't that a bit too much?"

"Which is why I stopped myself," Felt sighed, "It wasn't easy, but I managed to reign in my emotions. I would rather not have you play another bloody game of wits with that witch of greed…but it could elongate your life."

It seemed she was hinting at something.

"…and it may as well just be another ploy of hers," I looked her in the eye, "If there is something I learnt from forming a pact with her, then it was to never trust her. I wouldn't touch her deals with a hundred foot pole."

"We were so young and naïve when we started off," Felt snuggled closer to me, "Meeting in that alley, you suddenly taking the blame for the insignia to let me escape and then us both getting caught. It has really been a crazy journey so far."

"It really has," I hugged her one last time, "I love you Felt. Goodnight."

"Goodnight Hachi."

The next morning Felt awoke to a pile of ash on her marital bed. She felt her eyes water as she got ready to announce the news to the public.

The Empress's consort, the Prime Minister of Lugnica, the Hero that defeated monsters like the White Whale and Pandora and the only person that managed to defeat Echidna in a battle of wits was no more.

Hikigaya Hachiman was dead, and the country of Lugnica was in mourning.

(Echidna's Domain)

"Ok," Hachiman looked around, "I'm pretty sure I had our agreement modified and did not return to the shrine in the Enchanted Forest. So Echidna, why did you drag me here?"

"So rude of you to talk like that," Echidna spoke, sipping her bodily fluids, "You visit after so long, and leave alone bringing any gifts you are throwing accusations at me. Is that how a man behaves with his partner?"

"Right," Hachiman's eyes narrowed even more, he would have to test the waters to see what was going on. He clearly died, so why was he here in Echidna's domain?

"To answer your unspoken question," Echidna spoke, "I did not have any role in transporting you here. Something that my current powers cannot comprehend is involved, and it seems that I have been dragged in due to our agreement."

Suddenly, a wave of energy swept across the plain and everything began to crumble.

'Satella,' Hachiman concluded, 'Did she not move to the afterlife when we defeated Pandora? Is she still wandering between realms?'

'My dear,' Satella's form came before him and held him by his chin, 'You have suffered in this world due to my selfish desires. With the last vestiges of my power, I free you from the bindings of this world and wish you to be happy.'

Hachiman's vision went black as everything around him began to collapse. He felt himself floating around in darkness for quite some time before he heard a beeping sound come from somewhere far away, he continued following the sound until he saw a gleam of light and grasped for it.

His eyes opened to the glare of fluorescent lights as he jolted up from a sleeping position.

"ONII-CHAN!"

A girl suddenly grasped his body and he immediately readied himself to retaliate, but her tear-soaked visage stopped him from taking any countermeasures as a middle-aged couple joined in the hug and started bawling their eyes out. It reminded him of his last night in Lugnica with his family and he felt a bit numb.

"Sniff…you scared the life out of us Hachi!" the middle-aged woman wailed as she smacked him softly, "Never do that to us again, do you know how worried we were since you have been in a coma!?"

A coma? That term didn't exist in Lugnica, it was a medical condition of his world where…

HIS ORIGINAL WORLD!?

Hachiman grasped for any reflective surface and pulled a plate as he saw his face. Instead of a gruff and aged visage he had when he died in Lugnica, the face staring back at him was that of a teenager.

'Could it be…' Hachiman looked at the people surrounding him, the young girl still crying, and the middle aged couple, supposedly her parents, were looking at him with concern similar to what had been displayed by his family in Lugnica.

'Have I…returned back?'

Thus began the journey of Hikigaya Hachiman, former Prime Minister of Lugnica, who was back to live his life as a teenager in Japan.

This had been sitting in my computer for a while, so I decided to put it out here.

May or may not continue this as Post-Covid time has kept me a bit busy with work and other engagements. I'll try to update when possible.

Feel free to use this as an idea.

Stay Safe everyone.
