Read the Author's Notes at the end…
In the beginning gods walked among the men of Planetos, within every nation and kingdom is ruled by a god and peace is among them. They traded and negotiated with each other but never fought against one another for a war between gods is terrifying to behold. Nevertheless, the gods, like men are susceptible to ambition and greed and thus started declare war against each other, some of the gods where drag in the war to preserve whatever peace that remains and most joined to crown themselves as king of all gods, others simply participated to settle slights and thus ten thousand years of peace ended. The war ravaged the world, continents of old vanished and new ones rose. Mountains and oceans change sizes becoming hills and lakes and the ponds and hills increased in size as gods fought against one another. Thousands of gods perished and hundreds of millions of mortals and animals perished during the Wars of Divinity. It only ended when only seven surviving gods remained and thus decided to end hostilities and divide the world amongst themselves. Thus, the seven remaining gods ruled their own territories.
R'hllor, the Lord of Lust and Light, its followers stayed within its ruined nation of Asshai before slowly expanding their faith to the other lands of Essos. Asshai was once a sprawling city full of life until the Sal Nova, Lord of Salt, cast a Pillar of Salt on its lands killing the majority of its population and poisoning the soil and rivers. In vengeance, Rhllor cut the body of the Lord of Salt into pieces and fed it to his dying people vowing to return her city to its former glory.
Andal, the Lord of Envy and Iron, was the youngest of the Seven Lords, he established his nation and named it after himself Andalos. Here he crowned his mortal son, Hugo, as its king and prophet. Because of its age, he envied the much older gods before and thus a crusade to install himself as the leading god this led him to ally himself with the Lord of Wrath and caused him in conflict the Lord of Pride and Ice, Boreas, as he was an accomplice to the death Winter's spring and also started the genocidal attacks on his wife's creations, the Children of the Forest, Zephyr's last living memory to his grieving husband.
Boreas, the Lord of Pride and Ice, took that title as he was one of the gods to be born. He and her wife, Zephyr, the Goddess of Spring ruled the lands of Westeros alongside their creations, the Children of the Forest and the White Walkers or Jotuns, representing the cycle of Life and Death with their respective creations. The Children symbolizes the warmth of spring and the Jotuns symbolizes the cold embrace of winter and together they represent the symbol of hope. The Spring Goddess died on her journey to aid the dying people of Asshai, as she was captured and murdered by Andal and Ignia. Boreas in his grief caused the Long Night in Westeros. It only ended when his grandchild by his daughter, Khione, Brandon the Builder begged him to stop the advance of the Jotuns as it was affecting the Children of the Forest and First Men. Boreas relented and vowed to punish Andal and Balerion by both ravaging Andalos first and destroying Valyria.
Ran Aegir, the Lord Gluttony and Sea, reside in his watery halls content on the plunder taken by his thralls from the gods. The Lord of Gluttony joined the war purely for the treasures it will bring to his palace and sent his son, the Grey King, to all lands of Planetos to take everything as chaos covered the world. He preferred to attack the lesser and weaker gods while at the same time wary with the more powerful and older gods. Suprisingly, as the war came to an end, he is one of the remaining gods left and elevated to his current status. Despite their differences, Ran Aegir helped his younger sister escaping Balerion, and still hold a grudge as it was the Lord of Wrath that burned the fortress of son's descendants, House Hoare of Harrenhal.
Balerion, the Lord of Wrath and Fire, was jealous of Boreas for Zephyr has chosen him as his husband. He cannot accept that the beautiful and cheerful Goddess of Spring will marry the cold-hearted Lord of Winter and he hatched a plan to kidnap and wed the Goddess himself with the aid of Andal. Despite being successful in capturing the Spring, she denied him, and in his wrath burned the Spring of Winter. Balerion also started a war with the lesser gods and established his old on the Valyrian Peninsula and created the feared dragons, his children that will bring fire and destruction to his enemies. He declared an eternal war with Boreas, cut ties with Andal and abandoned his marriage to his wife, Ilaena Rhoyn.
Belfegros zo Xhan, the Lord of Greed and Gravity, is said to be so fat that she learned her magic to control the weight of an object. She loved to capture slaves, food, and jewelry. Because of these vices, Belfegros participated in the war purely to satisfy her own greed and this can also be seen in the way her followers acted for they also participated in this vile act of slavery. The Lord of Greed is known for her cunning and intelligence despite her appearance, nevertheless the other gods tend to not underestimate the god of the Ghiscaris.
Ilaena Rhoyn, the Lord of Sloth and Rivers, are said to be meek and the weaker than Andal herself. Despite this her love to her people, the Rhoynar, are said to be strong as she never has a child of her own after her marriage to the Dragon King. Being the younger sibling to Ran Aegir confuses both men and gods as the the Lord of Gluttony is known for his love of plunder and thralls. Her efforts to protect her children had led her in conflict with her former husband and aiding Nymeria, her favoured, mortal to travel to Dorne and survive the onslaughts of Balerion's armies.
The Wars of Divinity may have ended, the gods still had continued to scheme and cause proxy wars among their followers and people. This can be seen at the war between the First Men and Andals, the Rhyonish Wars, and the Ghiscari Wars. Boreas achieved his vengeance when he guided the descendant of his grandson, Theon "the Hungry Wolf" Stark, in ravaging Andalos and scheming with Ilaena Rhoyn and Belfegros in causing the Doom of Valyria. The gods were never allied to one another, they only sided with one another because of varying situations that align their interests, like the disdain of Andal and Boreas to slavery and Balerion and Belfregos love of it or Ran Aegir and Boreas and Ilaena Rhoyn aggreements with the aggressive conversion of Andal's followers. The Seven Lords have an unspoken rule of avoiding war with one another but simply using their people to fight their wars and disagreements. Currently because of strong faith of the Seven created by Andal, the Lord of Envy is currently sat on the top of hierarchy followed by Rhllor and Boreas, then Belfegros and Ilaena Rhoyn and lastly Balerion for he has lost his domain and creations to the folly of Targaryens.
The Seven-Who-Are-One faith established by Hugo, son of Andal, presents the Seven Lords as follows:
The Father is represented by Andal, The Lord of Envy and Iron.
The Mother is represented by Ilaena Rhoyn, The Lord of Sloth and Rivers.
The Warrior is represented by Ran Aegir, The Lord of Gluttony and Sea.
The Smith is represented by Balerion, The Lord of Wrath and Fire.
The Maiden is represented by R'hllor, The Lord of Lust and Light.
The Crone is represented by Belfegros zo Xhan, The Lord of Greed and Gravity.
And lastly, The Stranger is represented by Boreas, The Lord of Pride and Ice.
Thus, the Game of Thrones that the mortal houses play, are nothing more than a bigger chessboard that the Seven Lords are playing amongst themselves. The coming of the Second Long Night is being prepared by Boreas and his daughter, Khione, to expel the influence and weaken Andal of his strength and power. The followers of Rhllor on the other hand is also preparing to remove the curse of the Pillar of Salts left by the Lord of Salt in their nation by defeating and killing Boreas. Ran Aegir and Belfegros zo Xhan still waits for the opportunity for the world to enter into war and chaos once more in order to sate their thirsts for slaves, treasure and wars. Ilaena Rhoyn, still with fear of vengeance from Balerion, chose to side with the Lord of Pride and his daughter to protect her people. Andal is confident in his newfound current status is ignorant of the moves made by the older gods around him, and currently has no ally at his side. Despite his earlier alliance with Balerion, the Lord of Envy is still wary of his former ally as the former is silent and seems to be wallowing in his anger and hatred against Boreas. The Lord of Wrath may have lost his kingdom and followers to Boreas and his creations to Andal, he has still enough strength to defeat the youngest among the gods and contend with the oldest, so he planned a lie to bring the Lord of Lust to his side by promising to remove the taint left by the Sal Nova to Asshai. In truth, only the death of another god can help remove the taint and he planned to use the deaths of all last six gods and crown himself as the God-King of Planetos.
Author's Note:
The representations of the Faith of the Seven is simply my own opinion. I have placed Ilaena Rhoyn (inspired by the Rhoyne River) as the Mother, as she was married and never had a child and adopting the Rhoynar, and later the Dornish, as her own children. Balerion is the Smith because of the wonders the Valyrians have achieved with his creations, the dragons, creating the most advance empire in the known world. Boreas is the Stranger because alongside his wife, Zephyr the Goddess of Spring and Life, he represents the death that winter brings. The Crone is the slaving god simply because I have this mental image of her as a fat crone sitting on a floating chair. Ran Aegir because of his love of plunder and adventure and fights is chosen as a representation of Warrior. R'hllor was my chosen maiden for she never married because her time was consumed in rebuilding Asshai, aiding her people, and looking for a way to remove the taint on her lands created by the Lord of Salts.
What do you think? If you have better ideas, please post a review and I will read it to further improve the fic. This might turn into a full fanfic if you readers enjoy it.
