Andy woke up feeling as fresh as a daisy. Her head felt fine and she didn't have a headache, even though there was still a pretty big bump on the back of her head. Looking in the mirror as she brushed her teeth, she saw her forehead was fine and she wouldn't need to cover it up.
Today was the day. Miranda was in back-to-back meetings and the Runway crew had offered to give her a makeover. Checking her watch she knew she needed to leave soon. Despite it being early, she still had to get Miranda's skirts.
Once she was at the office, Andy put the skirts in Miranda's office together with her coffee. Everything went great and she was right on time. Miranda came in with Emily by her side and rambled off her demands. "Oh and Andrea, I hope my coffee is still hot."
-I know it is, I just love making her nervous.-
"It sure is, Miranda," Andy answered and smirked at the extra comment she had heard.
Miranda took her coffee and a bunch of files and moved away to begin her meetings and Andy moved out of the outer office, preparing to get dolled up in the beauty department.
"Oh, Andy you look great. I'm glad we get to style you. I can't wait to see you in designer clothes." Serena said as she put the last bit of makeup on her.
"I wonder what Nigel selected..." Andy mused as she left the beauty department.
"I knew it, you were in desperate need of Chanel," Nigel said as he took a final look at the outfit he chose for her. "Miranda will devour you on the spot once she sees you in those Chanel boots."
"Huh, I wish. But I do love these clothes. Thank you, Nigel." Andy grinned at the man before heading back into the outer office.
Emily looked stunned when she spotted her and nudged Serena. "Are you wearing the..."
"...the new Chanel boots? Yeah." Andy's smile widened.
"Wow, you look good Andy," Serena said.
Even Emily was impressed. "It was about time you got rid of those hideous skirts and shoes. Not to mention your cerulean sweater."
"I'm glad you like it Em," Andy said as she grabbed her purse and left the office to get Miranda's coffee before she arrived back. Once back she placed it on her desk when Miranda walked in talking on the phone.
"We're going to use the burgundy..." Suddenly she stopped in her tracks
-Oh! Holy mother of...How the hell does she look so sexy?-
Miranda looked her up and down.
-Ohhh! I'm going to murder Nigel with my bare hands for those Chanel boots.-
She turned around and as she licked her lips her thoughts went crazy.
-Focus, Miranda. Oh god, she's so sexy though.-
"...on the cover..." Miranda kept going as if nothing happened.
But Andy had caught every word the editor was thinking and she loved it. Plus she'd licked her lips. Andy smiled, feeling more hopeful than ever.
Throughout the rest of the day, they had been very busy. Andy had to accompany Miranda to a meeting.
-God damnit, I can't even say how much I despise this boring little man, Irving. I hope he's finished soon with his blathering. I'm ready to go home, I hope Cara has cooked something. I'm craving her chicken parmesan. She's such a great cook. And my babies, I miss them so much. That reminds me, I need to make sure they are booked in for their dentist appointments.-
Miranda glanced unobtrusively at her watch.
-Thank goodness it's already 4 pm. I hope I leave on time today. I don't want to disappoint my girls again and miss dinner...I wonder what perfume Andrea wears.-
Andy wrote Cara a text message asking her to cook what Miranda craved and hoped to make her happy once she gets home to one of her favourite meals. She only ever wanted to please Miranda but felt a little bad. It felt like she was almost invading the older woman's privacy. But it wasn't as if she could unhear Miranda's thoughts and it wasn't like it was her fault. She would just try to handle everything as respectfully as possible.
After the meeting, they walked back to the office and Andy followed the editor back into her office. "Um, Miranda, I need to remind you that it's time for your daughter's checkups with the dentist," Andy stated carefully not to overstep.
Miranda seemed thankful. "It's like you can read my mind, Andrea. Make sure they get appointments as soon as possible after they are back home from their grandmothers. Also, I will be leaving early today." She said and walked into her office.
-I need to contact La Perla. This thong is very uncomfortable. I'd rather wear nothing than this one. It's driving me insane.-
Andy blushed and noticed how Miranda was trying to not show how uncomfortable she felt. When she went to the bathroom Andy left the office and giggled for a second. She prepared for Miranda to leave by grabbing her purse and her coat. Once she emerged from her bathroom and shut down her Mac, Andy helped her into her coat.
-I can't believe she does this every night. I hope it's not because she thinks I'm old and needs help getting into my coat. I love her perfume. She smells divine. I wish I could kiss her neck.-
Andy gasped as she left. "Holy fuck." She said in disbelief.
"Language, Andrea. God, sometimes you can be such a bloody cow." Emily snorted from her desk.
Andy moved back to her desk as well. She couldn't wait to take the book because maybe she'd see Miranda and hear some more juicy details about just anything. Emily was about to leave when the book arrived. "Oh, it's early today. This is great." Andy said as she grabbed it and made her way to the woman she desired so much.
Once she arrived at the townhouse, Andy put away the dry cleaning and placed the book on the table when she saw Miranda descending the stairs.
"Oh good, you're still here," Miranda drawled softly.
-I knew you were but I'm glad I get the chance to speak to you and see you again in those lovely boots. Wow, she's staring at me like I'm her prey. Maybe I do still have it after all. Who am I kidding I'm way too old for her.-
"Did you make those appointments for the girls?" Miranda asked.
"I did, I put it in your schedule. It's right after they come home from their grandmother...uhm..." Andy said, still holding back.
"What is it?" Miranda said and grabbed the book.
"I just wanted to tell you that I love your outfit today. I uh...yeah, that's what I wanted to say. It suits you..." Andy rambled.
"I know," Miranda said but smiled at the woman.
-Ohhh! She likes my outfit...maybe I won't have to kill Nigel after all.-
"That's all," Miranda said and turned to go back up the stairs.
"Okay, Goodnight Miranda," Andy said still blushing after giving the other woman that compliment. She left and Roy was waiting for her to drive her home. "God I'm such an idiot sometimes...how can I tell the fashion queen that her outfit suits her..." Andy said to herself on the way home. She felt like such a dork.
Then again, Miranda had at least smiled at her and had also thought about kissing her and seemed flattered about the compliment.
Andy sighed and threw herself on her bed once she entered her apartment. Even though it seemed so easy, it also felt so complicated. And she felt like shit since it felt like a betrayal.
Why was she able to hear those thoughts now? And why Miranda?
Confused, Andy started crying. She felt like she needed to apologise to her boss. But then again she didn't even know for what. It's not like it is her fault. And when she kept thinking about it she knew no one, especially not a rational thinking Miranda Priestly would believe she could hear her thoughts.
Andy thought there was only one solution. She probably had to quit and never see the woman again to respect her privacy. The very thought of leaving the woman made her cry even more. But she was sure that's what she'd had to do. As she got ready for bed, Andy decided she would write her two weeks' notice.
She went to bed and cried herself to sleep.
