It was a typical work day for Perry Mason. He had just seen a client, and that client was walking out of his office. The client walked over to Della Street.
"Mr. Mason wanted to arrange another meeting with me."
"Of course." She consulted her planner. "He has an opening for this Friday from 2:00-3:00pm. Is that ok."
"Sure."
She wrote that information down on slot. Then she picked one of Perry's business cards, put the date on it, and gave it to him. "Here you go."
"Thanks."
She studied his face. It had the most forlorn look on it. He was in a deep depression.
"Are you ok?" she asked.
"It's hopeless! The only witness to the crime was my ex-wife. And she hates me so much, she'll lie! I might as well just plead guilty and throw myself at the mercy of the court!"
She got up and walked over to him. "Eric, don't lose hope. Perry Mason is the best lawyer in the business. He will find the truth and he will exonerate you-I promise that!"
"But I'm not rich, like has other clients."
"Doesn't matter! He treats his poor clients the same way he treats his rich ones. Like I said, he WILL find out the truth-and that is my promise!"
She then hugged him and kissed him on the cheek.
"Thanks, Miss Street. I feel better already!"
"Good. I'll see you this Friday."
"I'll be here."
He left.
Perry walked out of his office. "Della, I'm proud of you!"
This surprised her. "You saw what just happened?"
"Sure did. Oh, I hope you're not angry."
"Not at all, Chief. Some people just need a little tlc."
"And you're good at dispensing that!"
"Thanks, Chief!"
"As a matter of fact, I have a lead I'm pursuing. If it pans out, it could completely exonerate him."
"Wonderful! Oh, Miss Walters is due, soon."
"OF course."
He went back into his office, and she continued her secretarial duties.
