Dream S23 E48 (Fletch and Jac)

She was going to get better, she was sure of it now. Elliot and Max had found a way and she was happy to let them do it, she needed to be there for Emma, she needed to be there for her daughter through all of those important milestones, through her entire life just like she hadn't had. All of the thoughts of she might not make it went out the window when all she could focus on was beating this thing once and for all but something changed by the end of the day, something just didnt seem right with her.

Fletch noticed straight away, he outright asked if she was having doubts about not seeing Emma but she shook her head, he wasnt going to play the back and forth gentle speak with her not when the stakes were so high so he asked outright. He didnt think they had time for pussyfooting around when he could lose her at any moment. There wasnt time to be gentle, it was a time to be honest.

He watched her sleep, she didnt seem to realise but she was selfishly enough taking his blanket as well as she complained she was cold, he let her have it, she deserved to have it. Fletch fell asleep, his head resting against the chair awkwardly and no doubt it would ache in the morning when he woke but before he could get into a deep sleep he was woken by Jac gasping from her sleep, her frail body shuddering into life causing him to frown and hush her gently as she rubbed her head repeatedly trying to get the thoughts of her mind.

"Here" he offers her some water, she looks at him kind of confused before taking it and drinking it, surprisingly enough it made her think a bit clearer "Nightmare?"

"Not really, just...a weird dream, I've had a few of them"

"Weird dream?"

"Yeah" she confirms with a light sigh, she finishes her water and then passes it back to him before wincing "Ow"

"Ribs still hurting?"

"Hm" it was a non-committal answer from her, he just looks at her "Why are you looking at me like that?"

"No reason"

"Whatever" she didnt have the energy to deal with his mood, instead she just leant back against the bed and sighed "Dead people"

"What?" he looks at her confused, she turns her head

"I see dead people" she comments, he raised an eyebrow wondering if this was another weird brain tumour symptom, that alone caused panic and his palms started to sweat

"Dead people?"

"In my dreams" she whispers, he runs his hand over his face highly confused "I saw Essie"

"Essie?" Fletch looks at her wondering if she had completely lost it "Why on earth would you see Essie, it's not like you were best friends was it?"

"We were talking about Sacha," she says quietly "And she was giving me drugs or something, it was just weird"

"Oh" Fletch didnt know what to say, he really felt like he wasnt being very helpful as they just sat in silence for a bit "What did you talk about?"

"I've already said," she says quietly, he could tell she didnt want to elaborate and that she didnt have the energy to snap at him

"Did you see anyone else?" he asks diverting the conversation, she rolls his eyes at him eating a bag of popcorn "Sorry that can't be helpful when you're nil by mouth"

"It's not" she watches him chuck the bag in the bin before sighing and closing her eyes "Digby was there"

"Ok, now you're having me on-"

"I'm not!" she borderline scowls, she didnt understand it either "He was there"

"What did he say to you then?"

"We were just talking about...weird things like...they wanted me to ask them questions about...when the end..." she struggles to compose herself, he immediately reaches out and places his hand on hers, she links her fingers through his

"Oh, Jac" he seemed to understand what she was trying to say so he sits on the side of the bed and looks at her as she brings a hand up to wipe her eyes "Did anything else happen?"

"Jasmine" she looks at him and he immediately envelopes her in a hug, she secures her arms around his body and he kisses her on the side of the head "She walked in at the end"

"Did she say anything?"

"She was just...Jasmine" Jac looks at him, he nods and holds her hand "I dont really want to talk about it but...yeah"

"You can say as much or as little as you want," he says, she smiles up at him "You're in control"

"They thought I was scared," she says quietly, he looks at her "Am I scared?"

"I think a part of you is"

"Me too," she says, somehow him saying it out loud "But I'm going to get through this Fletch, I am"

"I hope you do" he whispers and rests his head against hers, she smiles as he does it "You're not going to go down without a fight, you always come out on top and you will this time and then it will be another bad memory"

"I hope so"
