I remember, when recounting my meeting with Kissshot Acerolaorion Heartunderblade, I made a point to emphasize my inability to understand the chain of events that led me to that fateful night where the queen of vampires drained my blood and turned me into an aberration. I called it a "chain of events", but I had no particular understanding of the root cause. An average man would chalk it up to mere fate and leave it at that.
However, after encountering so many aberrations, the common sense of your average human was so far away from me. Through my many battles and encounters, I realized that there was a moment in my life, leading up to my meeting with Kissshot, that, considering it now, was quite odd.
It was prior to the beginning of spring break. A student had transferred to Naoetsu High, the school I attended. I never met him personally, but I caught wind of some unsavory rumors, though I find it difficult recalling them. Speaking of which, when I spoke with Tsubasa on the topic, she recalled something. The day the rumors of a vampire roaming the night streets circulated coincided with the day of that student's transfer.
An average man would chalk it up as a mere coincidence. I don't feel the need to repeat myself. At night, I took the liberty of sneaking into school to pour over the records of students. However, I couldn't find a record of a student who transferred before the Spring break. It was as if that record had never existed.
The name also evaded me. The only letter I had to go by was "K". When I interviewed some students and faculty about it, they shook their heads and told me they didn't know about anyone like that.
But the thing that stood out to me was that, two weeks after all had been settled with Kiss-shot. Two weeks after I choose an ending that made us all equally unhappy. For a brief moment, I felt a cold wind on my shoulder. Like someone was watching me. It wasn't the same feeling I got with Meme Oshino or one of vampire hunters. This one had been watching me for a while, and it was only at that moment I could tell.
However, the moment I turned around to face the source, I found nothing but my own shadow.
I am recounting this because I want to emphasize that in the world of oddities, there is no such thing as coincidence. Everything is planned by some higher being that us normal humans cannot possibly understand. That's at least one of the things I heard Oshino say.
But really, I was just passing time, waiting for Hitagi to arrive for our date. As I waited, I spotted a group of students walking down the street opposite of me. They consisted of three boys and two girls. The two girls were fairly attractive, with one of them shamelessly wearing a uniform that exposed her chest. Behind them were the three boys. One was a tall and handsome guy with long blonde hair (similar in appearance to Episode). The other was a rugged-looking guy of equal height and strawberry blonde hair that made him look like a yankee. Finally, the shorter of the bunch had been a guy with dark hair and blue eyes. Unlike the others, he was wearing an entirely different uniform, however, they all wore armbands signifying their membership to some kind of club.
As I continued to observe them, for a brief moment, the shorter one's eyes locked with mine. And at that moment, I felt a familiar yet unfamiliar chill run down my spine. His eyes squinted and his innocuous smile had stretched to a knowing grin. Compelled as I was, I decided to walk to the other side of the street. However, I was stopped by a hand grabbing my arm. Turning around, my eyes met with Hitagi's.
"Something wrong?" Hitagi said, catching my newfound anxiety before I even had a chance.
"No, um…" I turned my head, but it appeared that the group had disappeared into a crowd. "It's nothing."
