Chapter 4

~.~

So…the first round didn't go so well for the Rainbooms.

"You still sounded much better than most of the other bands. I'm sure you'll make it to the next round. But it won't matter if you don't have that counter-spell ready. You all find a place to practice where the sirens can't hear you. Becky and I'll keep an eye on things around here." Sunset says.

~.~

"Better head back. We're supposed to go on after Trixie."

"You're never gonna get away with this." Sunset says. Becky stays back in the back of the hallway.

"Why? Because you didn't?" Adagio starts.

Sunset looks shocked.

"Oh, we know all about you, Sunset Shimmer. You've got quite the reputation at Canterlot High."

"I've changed! I'm in a much better place now!"

"It's a shame you have to take on such a burden."

"What are you talking about?"

"Your new girlfriend. It's all over the school about how your new girlfriend, the burden, got kicked out by her parents just because of being who she is and who she loves."

"That's not her fault, and she's not a burden! You have no right to say those things about her!"

"And you guys are both here, waiting in the wings while your friends have all the fun?" Aria says.

"Well, I guess you two are having another kind of fun. And all you girls are so tight. And yet…they didn't ask you to be in the band." Adagio says.

"Probably afraid no one would want to see them play if she, the bully and the homo, was in the group. And the new nobody has no place here, in or out of your little group." Aria says.

"Too bad! So sad!" Sonata exclaims.

"If it's any consolation, no one is going to remember either of you at all by the time we're done."

Becky steps up to Sunset before Adagio, Aria and Sonata leave.

"Hey! Sunset isn't a bully anymore! You have no right to call her such names."

"Oh, don't we? It's true, isn't it? You two being together? So sweet. Have a nice day."

The trio walks off.

"Sunset…"

"It's okay. Really. You did your best. Come on, let's go find the other girls." Sunset takes Becky's hand, gives it a squeeze, and the two head off to find the other girls backstage.

"This is it! Last round and you're in the finals! Unless you think the counter-spell is ready to be played now." Sunset asks.

"Uh…"

"Don't worry, Twilight. Finals aren't until tonight. We'll get in a little more practice before we're supposed to hit the stage. We won't let you down!" Applejack says.

"You won't let me down…" Twilight mutters to herself.

~.~

"Next up, the Rainbooms." Principal Celestia says.

"Knock 'em dead, Rainbooms!" Spike says.

"We'll be here…just…watching." Sunset says as she and Becky look at each other sadly.

Soon, Sunset sees Rainbow Dash has almost transformed and Sunset pushes her.

"Now that's the bad girl we love to hate!" Flash Sentry says.

"I knew she was still trouble!" Octavia says.

"The real Sunset Shimmer is back!"

"No. It isn't like that." Becky walks up to Sunset.

"Come on. Let's go."

"Run off with your homeless girlfriend, bad girl! We all know her secret." Flash Sentry calls out.

The girls head backstage.

"What was that?!"

"You were showing them your magic. I – I…"

"She didn't know what else to do." Becky intervenes.

"Ugh. Close the curtains? Unplug her amp? Give us a chance to deal with the situation?" Rarity asks.

"I'm sorry, I just wanted to help." Sunset says.

"Yeah, well, you didn't." Rainbow Dash says.

"Enough. Sunset was trying her best. So, things got messy. So what?"

"'So what?' 'So what?' You don't need to stick up for your girlfriend every time she makes a mistake! Let her learn!"

"She's only trying to help me!"

Applejack steps up to Rainbow Dash.

"None of this would've happened if you weren't tryin' to show off – as usual."

Trixie steps up to the group as Becky escapes into the shadows.

"Good show, 'Rain-brooms'. I especially like the part where Sunset Shimmer, in a fit of jealous rage, knocked out Rainbow Dash mid-guitar solo!" Trixie says.

"It wasn't a fit of…hey, where's Becky?"

"Who cares? Probably went off to cry in a closet. Where she belongs." Trixie says.

Sunset runs off to find her girlfriend. And she is, indeed, crying in a closet.

Sunset knocks on the door three times.

"Becky? Baby, it's me."

The door opens and Sunset is met with a tear-faced Becky.

"Hey. Are you okay?"

"No. First my parents kick me out, then one of my friends yells at me for sticking up for you?"

"Rainbow Dash can be a bit harsh at times."

"Yeah, tell me about it…Sorry."

"It's okay. You need to vent."

"Thanks."

"You're welcome."

"Should we go back to our friends?"

"Not just yet. I never thought I'd say this, but do you want to go back into the closet?"

Becky nods and pulls Sunset back into the closet, and they have a major make out session. Nothing more than kissing, mind you.

Soon, there's a knock on the door.

"Come on. Let's go." Sunset says. She kisses Becky's forehead and the two, hand in hand, walk out of the closet together.

The girls emerge from the closet, looking only at each other.

"Becky, I'm sorry for what I said." Rainbow Dash says.

"And I'm sorry, too, Sunset." Rarity says.

"We forgive you." Becky and Sunset say.

"We made it to the finals!" Pinkie Pie blurts out.

"How? You guys didn't even finish your set." Sunset asks.

"We don't know."

"Come on. Let's go to the amphitheater." Twilight says.

The seven girls – and Spike – head to the amphitheater after dropping Becky off at Sunset's, with Becky's promise to be at the amphitheater in time for the last round of the competition.

Becky spends the next couple of hours unpacking her things and putting them in their places, while keeping an eye on the clock.

She soon heads to the amphitheater and sees the girls are nowhere to be found.

"Sunset? Twilight? Rainbow Dash?"

"Becky!"

Becky sees Spike running towards her, and she kneels in front of him.

"Spike?"

"Becky, you have to come with me. The girls are trapped underneath the stage."

"Lead the way."

Becky opens the door and the girls spill out. She helps Sunset up while the others help each other up.

"You guys okay?"

"We're fine."

"Sorry I took so long. I had to find somebody who wasn't under the sirens' spell to help me get you out."

"Why isn't Becky under their spell?" Twilight asks.

"My guess is…her love for Sunset…and her new friends…is stronger than their magic."

Soon, the Dazzlings are defeated, and Sunset is appointed a new member of the Rainbooms.

Becky and Sunset's relationship continues to blossom throughout the rest of the semester, and throughout the rest of the school year. But this is only the beginning.
