DISCLAIMER: I don't own Sonic or associated properties. However, that blade of grass that stuck to my shoe that one time I was talking about Sonic with a friend? That's mine. Oh, and so is this one-shot.

REMINDER: I am currently not getting notified of reviews due to alert issues, so if you have a request, PM ME DIRECTLY. Leave reviews for actually, you know, reviewing. Clue's in the title. But yeah, any requests, hit me up directly.

Oh, that's this? A one-shot request between two characters I've never done in a couple AND it's not smutty? You're dang right! I'm surprised by this as well, and I can only thank TailsShipper771 for requesting this. It's no secret that, as much as we all sexualise the Sonic characters at times, some of them are just straight up wholesome, and Miles "Tails" Fox the prower is easily one of the goodest bois in Sonic canon. I also haven't written much Tangle, but I like her and she is also adorable, so hopefully this'll just be short and sweet. There will be no sex or swearing here, but the characters are still going to be over 18 just in case. See you at the bottom.

Miles "Tails" Prower hadn't been this nervous or excited in a while. It was the one year anniversary of his and Tangle the lemur's relationship, and he was trying to prepare a nice dinner at his home. But the trouble was that he'd been working on upgrades for his plane the entire past week and he hadn't cleaned up since. He'd barely remembered to shower that morning and he was sure he still had an oil stain somewhere on his body.

"All right... it shouldn't be much longer..." He heard his doorbell ringing and he opened it to see a delivery man. "Hello there."

"Hi," said the deliverer. "This is the Prower workshop, yes?"

"It is," Tails affirmed. "Is this what I ordered?"

"It is," the deliverer affirmed, holding out a small screen. "Just sign here."

Tails did so, writing his signature on the screen. "Thank you very much."

"You're welcome," said the deliverer. "What is all of this stuff for, anyway?"

"Oh, I'm going to be cooking," Tails said. "An anniversary meal, actually."

"Ah. That does explain the necklace too. She must be quite a lady if you spend that much. Anyway, congrats," the deliverer smiled. "All right, you have a nice day."

"You too!" Tails said, waving goodbye.

As the deliverer left, Tails brought in a large box that contained several ingredients for what he'd need. He opened the box and took out the ingredients, quickly putting them in the fridge before returning to the box, finding a smaller box inside. He opened the smaller box and found a bottle of wine which would pair with the meal that he was going to prepare.

But before he could do any of that, he still had a lot of cleaning up to do, so he got a move on in that regard. He was thankful that he'd set his alarm early so that he could be awake for the delivery in the first place, as it gave him time to clean up as well as hopefully have the meal prepared and made by the time that Tangle got there.

He cleaned as best as he could, scrubbing things down, vacuuming any mess, even taking out some full trash bags as well. He cleaned all of the dishes he was going to be using for the cooking as well, and when they were all nice and cleaned up, he was about to start making food when his pocket vibrated.

He picked his phone out of his pocket, smiling at the caller ID, and he happily answered. "Hey, honey."

"Hey, babe," Tangle said on the other end. "Wait, Honey? Were you expecting her?"

"Very funny," Tails smiled. "What can I do for you?"

"I was just warning you that I'm going to be coming around today, so if you have any surprises for me, don't tell me what they are," Tangle said. "Although as it's our first anniversary, it'd be a bit weird if you said anything."

"It would indeed," Tails agreed. "And don't worry, I won't spoil it for you. But I will warn you that it's not the most complicated thing."

"That's good, actually," Tangle said. "You don't have to try that hard to impress me. I already lo- like you a lot..." She was blushing heavily on her end.

"I lo-like you a lot too," Tails teased gently. "And good thing that I don't have to try that hard to make you happy. I'll keep that in mind for future anniversaries."

"Oh, fantastic. I'm dating a lazy genius," Tangle said playfully. "Said genius is very cute and charming as well, though, so I can't complain too much."

"That would have been nice to know sooner," Tails said, grinning. "I'd like to meet him one day."

"Very funny," Tangle giggled. "All right, I'll be around in a few hours. I've got some stuff to sort out on my end as well. See you around half three?"

"That's plenty of time," Tails said. "And again, keep your expectations low when you come around."

"It won't be the surprise that matters," Tangle said. "What will matter is spending time with you."

Tails smiled. "I hope that I can live up to that expectation, then." He looked over to the dishes he'd cleaned, then quickly checked the time. "All right, I've got to go myself. Like you, I've also got stuff to do."

"Fair enough," Tangle said. "See you later."

"Later," the yellow fox said shortly before they both hung up their phones. "All right, I've got plenty of time until she gets here. Might just chill for a bit before making the food."

Since he knew that it wouldn't take long to get made, he decided to kill time for a couple of hours, mostly playing some video-games and watching some videos, as well as cleaning some areas of the kitchen that he had missed from earlier. He did style his hair a little bit as well before washing his hands, seeing that he had roughly an hour until Tangle arrived.

It was time to cook.

He went about preparing the food carefully, starting with the vegetables for the meal he was going to make, which was a roast sweet potato salad with honey lemon dressing. He had a recipe up on his phone to help him prepare it as well, and he was suddenly thankful that he had the foresight to buy an extra of some of the vegetables in case anything went wrong with the meal preparation.

And some parts did go wrong. He did make some small mistakes with the portioning, but he made up for it with careful precision. There also came the problem of cooking the meal and using the right amount of oil and remembering to roast the potatoes ahead of time as well as turn them to get all sides roasted.

It was soon all prepared and in a pot on the cooker, and Tails noticed that he'd been sweating a lot working on the food, so he decided to take another quick shower before getting dressed. He didn't go overly fancy with how he dressed, sticking to a cream-coloured dress shirt, some blue jeans, and a nice pair of black shoes. He sprayed himself with some deodorant to finish things off, checking his phone and seeing that he had another ten minutes until Tangle arrived.

He killed time, mostly playing some video-games until Tangle showed up, and he got up when he heard the doorbell ring. He answered it and smiled as he saw his girlfriend, welcoming her in and smiling as she hugged him before walking past him. She was wearing a pink blouse and some black skinny jeans, completing her look with some dark blue sandals.

"You got here a little bit early," Tails smiled.

"What, were you hoping to get in more minutes of Death Souls?" Tangled asked. "You know those games are stressful, right?"

"I just have to use my brain like always and I'll beat that ogre," Tails chuckled, subtly patting his pocket to see if he could remember if the necklace was in there. "Phew..."

"What was that?" Tangle asked.

"Oh, uh... nothing," Tails replied. "But... say, when did you last eat?"

"About four hours ago," Tangle said. "I had brunch with some friends. Before I sorted stuff out for today, obviously. Why?"

"Because I made us dinner," Tails said. "A roast sweet potato salad. I know that you're trying to eat a bit healthier, and I am as well, so I thought you'd like it."

"Ooh, that does sound nice," the grey lemur grinned. "And you get bonus points for remembering that I'm trying to look after myself. And props on you for doing the same. You even cleaned the place nice."

"Well, I did tell you to have low expectations," Tails smiled, rubbing the back of his head.

"And so far, I've been blown away," Tangle said. "I just hope that the food is good."

"I got some wine too," Tails said. "Hopefully it's something that goes well with what we're eating. I'm not the smartest when it comes to pairing wines with food."

"I don't have a discerning taste for it myself," Tangle admitted with a smile. "I don't think it matters much."

"Ah. That helps," Tails chuckled, relieved. "So, ready to eat? The food's about done, so."

"Oh, absolutely," Tangle said.

The two-tailed fox went to the kitchen, being followed by his girlfriend, and he got the oven mitts on to help him serve the food. He got the tray out of the oven and finished with the garnishing before setting the food out into some plates for himself and Tangle, handing them out with the cutlery to match as well.

"Mmm..." Tangle took a sniff and smiled. "It smells delicious." She used her fork to dig out some of the food, putting it in her mouth and giving a sound of approval as she chewed. She eventually swallowed and gave a thumbs up. "Wow... another expectation blown away. That's great."

"Thanks," Tails smiled, taking a bite of his own. He gave his own appreciate face and nodded before speaking again. "I really put the work in for this as well. I even got extra stuff in case I messed up."

"Ah," said Tangle. "And did you?"

"More than twice," Tails admitted. "But I made up for it."

"Such a smart boy," Tangle winked. "Well, man is more likely."

Tails blushed. "Thank you..."

The grey lemur giggled at her boyfriend's reaction before snapping her finger. "You wouldn't mind pouring that wine, would you?"

"Not at all," said Tails, getting up to get the wine. He got two recently cleaned glasses as well, pouring the beverage evenly into both and setting the glasses down for himself and his girlfriend. "And there we both go. Bottoms up."

Tangle smiled and took a sip of her wine. "Mmm... also really good."

"Thanks. I squeezed the grapes myself 100 years ago," Tails joked, getting a giggle from Tangle in the process.

The lemur took another bite and giggled. "So, what's for dessert?"

Tails paused at that. "I... I didn't think of that. I've got some ice-cream in the fridge we could share, though? Bubblegum flavour."

"Ooh... I do like ice-cream, regardless of flavour," Tangle replied, getting a smile from Tails. "I don't suppose we could binge some TV as we eat said ice-cream together on the couch until we pass out?"

"I suppose that we could do that," Tails grinned. He grabbed his glass and leaned over. "Happy anniversary, Tangle."

"Happy anniversary, Tails," Tangle replied, clinking their glasses. "Here's to many more to come."

The two drank more of their wine and continued with their meal as well, both enjoying it as well as casual conversation as they enjoyed their dinner together. They made small jokes together as well, simply enjoying each other's company together until, eventually, their food was all finished. Tails cleaned the dishes as Tangle went over to the couch, and Tails soon joined her, getting the tub of ice-cream as well as two spoons.

"So, what are we watching?" Tangle asked as the fox handed her one of the spoons.

"Lady's choice," Tails said, handing her the remote.

"This isn't my anniversary gift, is it?" Tangle said.

"Wait, we were supposed to get gifts?" Tails asked, waiting to see his girlfriend's reaction. She widened her eyes and he broke into laughter, getting a slap on his arm. "Sorry, I couldn't help it."

"The gift had better be a good one," Tangle pouted, unable to hide her smile.

"Well... do you want it?" Tails asked. "Sort of as a way to make up for the joke?"

"Hmm... yes, actually," Tangle smirked. "But again, I have my expectations low."

Tails scoffed playfully before reaching into his pocket, pulling out a small black box. He opened it and showed the necklace that he got for her, a silver chain with a black gem in the middle, surrounded by some smaller amber coloured ones. Tangle's eyes widened and she smiled at it.

"Aw, that's so sweet," Tangle said, turning around so that he could put it on. He did so with little trouble, and she looked at the gem resting against her neck. "This is incredible! How much was it?"

"It was a lot..." Tails admitted. "But I'm glad that you like it."

"Are you kidding? It's beautiful!" Tangle smiled, turning back around. "I guess I have to match that somehow by giving you your gift now."

"Aw, you don't have to," Tails said. "But, out of curiosity... what did you get me?"

Tangle reached into her own jeans and got a black box, more rectangular in shape than what Tails' box was. She opened it and showed a fancy looking watch, smiling as she gave it over to him and he put it on, nodding approvingly.

"Wow... simple, stylish, and it tells the time," Tails smiled. "This is great, thank you."

"Look at the back of it again," Tangle said, pointing.

Tails did so, and he smiled as he read what it said. "To Miles Prower. We may grow old one day, but your kindness is timeless."

"I hope you like it," Tangle said. "It's a shame it's on the back of the watch, but if it were on the face, it'd be harder to read, so... I figured that made the most sense."

"Oh, smart thinking," Tails said. "But thank you so much. I love it."

Tangle blushed. "And... I... love you..."

Tails blushed back at that. "I love you too, Tangle..."

"You're not just saying it because I said it first, right?" Tangle asked.

"No," Tails said, still blushing as she was too. "I really do love you... and I was trying to think of the right time or way to say it, but... when you know, why wait, right?"

Tangle leaned over and giggled. "I love you, Tails."

"I love you too, Tangle," Tails nodded. "That feels so good to say."

Tangle smiled, leaning her arms around his neck and kissing his cheek, then his lips. The two made out softly before they remembered the tub of bubblegum flavoured ice-cream on the lemur's lap, and they kissed a bit more before stopping before the treat melted. They got their spoons ready and ate through the whole thing as they watched TV together, Tails cleaning the tub and putting it in the recycling before returning to the couch to pass out on it with her. He smiled and gently kissed her neck as they snuggled together, bringing a blanket around them and kissing her cheek before turning the TV off.

"Goodnight, Tangle," Tails smiled. "I love you..."

And then he closed his eyes, drifting off to sleep right behind her, hugging her gently.

Awwww. That was cute, right? I hope it was. The next thing will likely be another Cyber Riders 3 chapter, so not as cute as this was. I'm hoping I can keep this balance going. Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed this one, and I already told you what might be next so I'll just shut up now. Until then, take care, and stay tuned.
