Rey had nightmares on Ahch-To. It was so foreign to her, and left her feeling so hopelessly alone. All she had known for so long had been Jakku, the constant struggle just to survive, so to suddenly be somewhere where it seemed the land itself would provide was unnatural to her. She sat by the fire in her hut, a blanket pulled tightly about her, the sound of the rain on the stone roof was frightening, the crack of thunder made her ache for the silent sands of what she'd known as her home for so long. She closed her eyes and covered her ears as another crack rattled her meager shelter.
"Ben." Her lips murmured it before she knew what she was saying. He was the only one who made her feel safe, feel comfort. She saw him laying, perhaps asleep. She moved silently over to him, leaning against the closest wall, unwilling to touch him for fear she may disturb his slumber.
A clap of thunder snapped, and she closed her eyes whimpering, but in that moment she was grabbed. She opened her eyes, Ben had pulled her against his body, holding his lightsaber, shielding her from whatever it was causing her this fright. He could not see her surroundings, but he stayed there, holding her. She pressed her face to his chest, wetting it with tears.
"What is it?" He asked, clearly still believing her in some danger. She shook her head and he exhaled slowly, sinking back against his bed, pulling her with him. She curled up against him and he held her tightly, fiercely. "I'm here." He murmured, pressing his lips to the top of her head, soothing them both. It had not occurred to her how he had been affected by waking from a peaceful sleep to something else in the past. She had frightened him.
"I'm sorry." She said softly.
"What happened?" He did not open his eyes or loosen his hold.
"I was afraid." She admitted. He exhaled slowly, seeming soothed by her words.
"You called my name."
"You protected me."
"I will always protect you."
"I woke you."
"Stay with me until I fall asleep." He rolled over, relaxing but keeping his hands on her.
"I will stay with you." She fell asleep in his arms, the storm all but forgotten.
