In the week following the cafeteria incident, I was finding it harder than ever to forget about Eddie. It seemed as though, now that we'd shared that little moment, I saw him everywhere. And even worse, when he saw her, he made a point to stare at her. It's hard to tell just what that look in his eye means, whether he hates me or doesn't know what to think about me. Whatever it was, it freaks me out. As long as I can just keep my head down and forget about him, I'll be fine.
"Angie!" I heard Sarah yelling my name, once again saving the day by snapping me out of my own head.
"Hey, girl!" I wrapped my arms around her, hugging her tightly. I really was lucky to have such a great friend by my side.
"Okay so listen," She looked around as if to make sure no one else could hear us. "My parents are going to be away for the weekend, and it's been so long since we've had a good party! Please tell me your parents will let you out."
"Ugh, I don't know, you know how they are about me being out late. They think I'm going to get kidnapped and sacrificed to the devil or something." I rolled my eyes. My parents were great people, but sometimes I wondered how they survived their own teenage years being as paranoid as they are. "I can ask. Do you think your parents will talk to them about a sleepover?"
Sarah scoffed as if that was the dumbest question I could have asked her. "Of course they will. They love you, and they know how ridiculous your parents can be. I'll talk to mom and ask her to call over tonight and tell them you'll be safe and sound with us all weekend long!" Sarah's parents were great when you wanted to do something teenagers probably aren't supposed to do. They really didn't care what we did, as long as we had the house cleaned back up before they got home.
The bell rang, and I hugged Sarah goodbye as we took off in different directions toward our classes. I was in my own head again, but this time just thinking about what I was going to wear to the party this weekend. As I was debating over two different outfits, I felt someone walk up beside me. "Boo!" I looked up to see who the voice came from, and locked eyes with the man who had been in and out of my head all week.
"What do you want?" I asked as I started walking faster.
"Well damn, angel face, a guy just wants to get the details to a party happening this weekend. I hear it's gonna be all the rage." He looked at me with a big grin on his face and winked.
I stopped walking and pulled him to the side by the lockers, holding him by the sleeve of his leather jacket. It was much softer than I thought it was going to be. Shoot, why did I bring him over here? The party, right. I looked around, first to make sure nobody that shouldn't know about the party was around, and also to make sure nobody was paying attention to me talking to Eddie Munson in the halls. "What are you talking about?" I whisper-yelled at him.
Eddie didn't seem to pick up the hint that I was trying to be quiet, or he just didn't care. "The party that I heard you and blondie talking about just a second ago. Or, sorry, the "sleepover". Sounds like a great time, what time should I be there?" He was still grinning at me. It was infuriating.
"You, freak, are not invited anywhere!" I felt the slightest bit of guilt when his smile dimmed, but I pressed on, needing to make my point clear. "I don't know what kind of game you're trying to play by staring at me all the time and now basically stalking me, but you need to stop."
He just stood there shaking his head while he watched my tirade with an intense glare. "Is that what you want, baby? Fine, I'll stop looking at you." He smiled then, and I knew he was about to piss me off again. As he walked away, he turned back and smiled even bigger before saying, "But I will see you at that party." He stared a second longer before turning back around and walking away.
I knew then that Eddie was going to be bad news for me.
