Disclaimer: This will be the last time I edit this because now I have a sudden drive to see this plot through to it's completion. If you ever heard of "Chaotic Magic" or "Revival of Entropy", hi. I wrote those too. This is now the official story and I'm going to complete this if it kills me.
With that, onto the story.
Chapter One: Revival
The labyrinth was cold, quiet, and void of movement. Dust laced the floor, undisturbed for millennia. Only one room held any form of light, a room with stone textured vines, formed into cocoon-like structures. For a moment, the structures stood still, but the three that rested in the room started to pulsate as if they were alive despite looking like a sculpture. The first cocoon started to open and unravel, revealing a young woman with two-toned brown to white hair. Upon her arm was a duel disk and she seemed to be unconscious as the vines carefully set her body on the ground. The cocoon next to her soon unraveled next, setting another woman with pink hair, glasses falling off her face and landing on the ground as she was placed beside the first, a duel disk also upon her arm. The final cocoon, again, unraveled and set an unconscious tanned and indigo-haired woman down just as delicately. Each one adorned a device on their arms and looked like they were merely sleeping. When the last of the stone vines contracted, they started to fall and decay, becoming nothing more than dust and rock on the ground, revealing a blank wall behind it. A few seconds ticked by when the sound of shackles slinking across stone could be heard, but none of the women rose from sleep. A few more seconds ticked by slowly before the first woman finally stirred. Icy blue eyes flickered open and looked around in a haze. Slowly but surely, both her arms tucked under her torso and pushed, shoving herself onto her hands and knees. Her eyes blinked unevenly, uncertainly. She sat back, resting on her knees, and looked around the room confused and looking at the device on her arm even more so. Her attention finally rested on the pink-haired woman next to her and reached over, hesitantly shaking her shoulder.
"Hey…" She said, her voice cracked for a split second and she cleared her throat. Nothing from the other woman. "Hey, come on." She tried once more with a firmer shake. The other finally stirred and turned her head, blinking awkwardly. The first saw the shimmer of glass nearby and turned to see the, thankfully unbroken, set of glasses and picked them up. "These yours?" She asked. The pink-haired woman reached out, seeming to feel for the item, and carefully took them, slipping the glasses back on.
"Th-Thank you…" She responded, managing to shift herself to sitting. A new groan was heard as the first woman shuffled over to the last woman and carefully turned her onto her back.
"You okay?" She asked.
"...I think so…" The third responded. The first helped the still laying woman into a sitting position, and all three turned to look at one another, equally confused. The third woman turned to the first one and firmly grabbed her shoulder. "The hell?"
"...Okay, you're real…" The third responded before smacking her face a few times, wincing a few times. "...I'm not dreaming."
"I don't think this is a dream…" The second one responded. There was another tense silence before she spoke up once more. "I'm sorry but…who are you two?" The first woman shook her head.
"No, that's fair…Mangetsu Kazane. Or just Kaz." The first woman introduced herself.
"Hachimitsu Haruhi." The second woman followed suit.
"And I'm Kudamono Seiren." The second finished. Seiren took another look around the room before adjusting her glasses and sighed. "I think my glasses got scratched…" She muttered.
"Sorry about that." Kaz responded.
"Oh, no worries about it…" Seiren smiled softly. The shuffling sound from before made its appearance and the women swiftly turned to the door. Kaz was the first one to stand and took one step towards the door. "W…what was that?" Seiren muttered.
"...I dunno…" Kaz responded. The other two women quickly got to their feet. Kaz thought for a moment before looking to one of the torches on the wall and walked over, swiftly removing it from its holder. Kaz carefully peeked out into the hall, seeing three separate directions of choice, all of them darkened. "Where are we…" Kaz muttered, Haruhi and Seiren peeking their heads out as well.
"Not a dream, but a very dream-like scenario," Haruhi muttered. Kaz stepped out into the hallway further, not sure which direction to take. The shuffling sound could be heard once more and Seiren stepped out more to stand next to Kaz, looking down the immediate left path.
"We should go anywhere but left…" She said.
"Why?" Kaz asked.
"I have pretty good hearing… I think that sound came from the left…" Seiren stated.
"You think it's bad?" Haruhi inquired.
"I think so…well…I just…I have a bad feeling about-" before Seiren could continue, Kaz stepped forward more, standing in between the group and the leftward path. The shuffling could be heard more prominently and Kaz raised the torch more. A blackened form could barely be seen approaching them, looking more like a mound of ooze and muscle. A single pair of yellow eyes darted around wildly. The form was bipedal, but that was all that could be seen from the distance and the light. The women took a single step away and the creature seemed to stop in place, its eyes suddenly stopping and zeroing in on the group before it. From the center of the body of the creature were rows of sharp yellow teeth suddenly forming.
"Run," Kaz muttered, shoving the two women as the creature let out a gurgling cry. "RUN RUN, FUCK!" Kaz continued to shove and the three women took off. The three ran as fast as they could, taking random turns out of fear and high adrenaline; having to backtrack several times due to dead ends. It wasn't until the third dead end did they stop, panic rising further in their cores. "Fuck, fuck…what the fuck do we do?!"
"There's no way out of here…" Seiren whimpered softly. Haruhi looked behind them only to suddenly press her back against the wall.
"Who are you?!" She blurted out. Kaz and Seiren turned and also got startled by a figure clad in white robes. The figure adorned a golden mask with a single eye on it. Without a word, the figure looked to their right and walked off. Kaz stepped forward and looked down the right path, seeing the figure well beyond the light of the torch, as if the figure itself was an independent light source.
"...C'Mon." Kaz stated firmly.
"Are you mad? You want to follow them?" Haruhi asked.
"It's either that or-" The sound of shuffling and a gurgling cry interrupted the woman. "...Or that."
"Fair enough." Haruhi quickly said as the group quickly darted off. The figure in white seemed to always be farther ahead of them, but they'd always catch the figure going down a certain corridor. They continued to run and follow the figure until the group ran into yet another dead end.
"Well fuck…now what?" Kaz snapped. Seiren turned around, looking in the direction the group had come from.
"I…I think we lost it for the moment at least, I don't hear it anymore." She stated. Haruhi looked over at the stone wall before picking up on three bricks, in particular, each one slightly out of place. Experimentally, she pressed against one of them. It slid back and seemed to click into place. Then another with the same result. When she pressed the last one, a loud rumble was heard and the bricks slid back into place.
"What are you doing?" Kaz asked, grabbing Haruhi's shoulder.
"It must be a pattern…there are only so many combinations to go through." She muttered, pressing the first brick once more, but swapping the second and the third. The same result. Only this time, there was the familiar gurgling cry and rushed movement.
"Th-That thing must be attracted to the noise!" Seiren stated. Kaz pulled Seiren behind her and held out the torch, terror etched into the woman's face and a faint shiver ran through her body. Another rumble came with another failed combination, but bits of rock were starting to fall from the ceiling. The gurgling got closer and closer along with the sound of frantic panting. Seiren and Kaz watched with bated breath, too focused on what would come down the corridor until something grabbed both their shirt collars and tugged.
"It's a stairway! Move!" Haruhi exclaimed, pulling the two up a newly opened pathway just as the creature appeared. Kaz stayed a bit back, throwing the torch with all her might at the creature to hopefully singe a part of it and slow it down. What she didn't expect was the creature to fully ignite into a sickly green flame. Kaz stared for a moment as the creature fell to the ground and started to roll and cry in anguish, only to watch more pieces of rock and debris fall and quickly scampered out of the labyrinth. The three women very quickly and narrowly escaped just as even the stairway that was their escape seemed to collapse into a dust cloud behind them.
