Sounds from cockroaches fill the room, which awakens a young bleached green-haired witch girl, Amity Blight. She sees a single roach walking around her, causing her to jump upward from her slumber, which scares the bugs away.
"W-What? Where am I?" Amity managed to blur out despite her mind still needing some time to wake up fully. She remembered that not that long ago, she was in her bedroom in the Blight Manor. Staring at the dull gray ceiling as she lay on her bed after a heated argument that she could barely recall. Now in front of her was a door that was underneath a bright light. On her left side was a wall with numerous tally marks, and on her right was a small table with nothing on it, standing in a corner.
With nothing else to see within the empty room she occupies, it seems like the next thing to do was head toward what lies on the other side of the door in front of her. At first, she was hesitant to open the door, but she built up her courage and opened the door with a couple of inner pep talks and deep breaths.
"Wait…" Before Amity could enter the room, she paused and realized that she was back from the very beginning. She stood there, stunned for a moment until she saw the paper bag on the table was still there. She Amity rushed to the table and began to question the thing that talked through the bag.
"Hey, why am I here again?! What did I do wrong?! What do you mean by separate reality?! Answer me!" Amity surrounded the bag with a multitude of questions that came with no answer. She was starting to get impatient. She banged the table, causing the bag to fall ever so slightly off the table. Amity went to pick it up and was shocked to see that the paper bag was...empty. In an instinct of shock, she let go of the bag, seeing it fall so slowly like a feather. She stood there still even when it was just lying on the floor for a solid 5 minutes until she stormed out of the room. Kicking in the door as she ran to the interior balcony to scream, not paying attention to how dark the room is now.
"Why am I here?! What the fuck do you want with me?! How do I get out of this neverending nightmare?!" Amity yelled out, hoping for an answer or even a slight hint given to her but nothing, nothing at all. She was entirely on her own on how to escape from here on out. Her face fell downward where she met the sight of her now dirty blood-covered shoes, sighing as disappointment fell onto her hands.
Amity rubbed her head to ease the stress in her mind but felt a slight annoyance in her hair. She tried to grab whatever was bothering her nerves to feel something like paper with something printed on it. Amity pulled it out to see a ripped part of what seemed to be a piece of a photo from the hallway's frames.
"Maybe this could be part of a puzzle…." She thought. Amity walked up to search for a frame that had a missing picture. It wasn't the hardest thing to find after all since she did find it, but in the broken picture frame were different shapes and sizes. At least 6 patterns were formed. It was similar to that of a jigsaw puzzle that she now had to solve. "Great, now it's time for the hard part." The search for the rest of the pieces was now on.
Amity fanatically looked everywhere from top to bottom of the hallway as her search continued. She managed to find 2 more missing pieces, which she found in the pile of drugs on the counter and underneath the clock. She needed to find 3 more to finish the picture, but what was odd about them was that when Amity put them in the correct pattern, they didn't resemble anything. However, she didn't think much of it since she was determined to find the rest. But now, she was dumbfounded about where they could be. Amity decided to take a short break at the end of the hallway, resting her head on the wall as she pondered possible locations to find them. As she stared at the balcony above her, she noticed something below it, the 4th missing piece.
"Oh, you got to be fucking kidding me...you expect me to reach that?" Amity expressed angrily. She got up to see how far her arm can reach to see that her cursed height of being 5 feet is becoming one of her disadvantages in this situation. Amity proceeds to think of a way to get the piece from such a height. She looked at the table, and an idea started to take shape. Although very idiotic and risky, she planned to get on the table and tried to leap forward to reach the ripped picture. Amity proceeds to move the items away to make space for her legs as she lets out heavily deep breaths, preparing herself to jump. She leaped into the air, successfully grabbing the 4th missing piece, but her landing didn't go smoothly. She tried to land on her legs and arms, but at the last minute, her hand gave up on itself as she made contact with the floor, causing her to twist her hand for a moment.
"AW SHIT!... This...better be fucking worth it…." She panned out, rubbing her hand. The good thing is that it wasn't bent in an awkward position. It was just heavily numb from the pain of it turning for a moment as she landed. Amity headed towards the puzzle and placed the 4th piece on its designated spot but did little to show what the picture was trying to form. 'Maybe I just have to find the other 2 missing pieces.' She concluded.
After taking a short break to numb the pain in her hand, Amity returns to her search for the last 2 missing parts of the puzzle. She looked at the plant that she keeps overlooking since she figures that it was an insignificant detail to think about. However, in this case, maybe there's something about it that could lead her in the right direction. Amity got on her knees and began looking around the plant to check for at least a clue about where the 5th piece is, but she found nothing. So as her last resort, she picked up the plant and proceeded to drop it, breaking the pot that held. The floor below it was now covered with a pile of dirt. Dirt that possibly could contain the 5th piece. Amity dug around the dirt piece by piece to ensure she didn't lose what could be underneath the soil. After digging around for what feels like an eternity, at last, Amity found the 5th missing piece of the photo.
"Finally...5 down, 1 more to go," She thought out loud. Amity wiped the dirt off the piece before she placed it in its correct place, staring at the picture, still confused as to why it still looks like an incoherent mess. But she can't be distracted. She was close to finishing the puzzle, maybe even having her leave this hell. As Amity thought of possible areas where the final piece could be hiding, she felt a strange sensation in her throat. She tried to soften her throat, but then she felt something was trying to come out of it, to the point of blocking her oxygen. Amity falls to the floor, hurling and punching her gut in a desperate attempt to get whatever in her throat out. Finally, after a solid 30 seconds, what came out was the final piece. Completely dry despite that it should be covered with Amity's saliva due to it being clogged in her system.
She stared at the piece as she coughed harshly, tasting every bit of the dry portion of the paper. After a bit more relaxation for her throat, Amity got up to place the final part of the picture to finish the puzzle. The photo started to gain some color and started mixing and matching to form something that Amity could recognize. Her eyes widened as the picture she was trying to piece together was a portrait of a young Odalia, looking about the same age as Amity. Instead of hearing the door unlock as Amity expected, she heard a ghostly baby laugh echo throughout the hallway, confirming that she solved one of the many puzzles. "So there's more, huh? Dammit..." Amity let out a heavy sigh of disappointment to realize that a paragraph started to form below Odalia's portrait.
"I arrived from the basement to see her, that strange woman—an apparent victim of some kind of physical trauma. I took 10 steps in front of it to see that she had disappeared into thin air. At the same time, my clock began to ring, but it was dinging as if it was a grandfather clock. I check to see what was wrong with it, only to go back to its intended digitized ringing. I tried to call 911 using my home phone, only to ask for a password. I input it to hear some kind of disturbance in the other lane. Then someone started to breathe. When I turned or gasped (I don't remember what I did first), I became a headless monster man. Don't turn into a headless monster man. Don't turn nor gasp."
Amity was, to put it simply, befuddled at this mess of a story. Almost like it was written by some kind of crazed man or a child. Even so, she couldn't help but think that this was some kind of cryptic message telling her what to do. Amity concluded that she had to recreate this scene and avoid being a "headless monster man" by what she assumed to be her mother. She made her way down the basement's staircase and was prepared to come face to face with the monstrous Odalia. As Amity walked up the stairs, there she was, the monster standing as its head moved ever so unnaturally with its abnormal smile.
Amity made sure to count each of her steps to live the scenario made from the paragraph. Soon enough, just like the mini-story, Odalia disappeared with it being followed by noise from a grandfather clock. Amity made her way to the clock and grabbed it to try to fix it. She soon realizes that she could manipulate the display of time using the scrolls behind it. For whatever reason, Amity felt that she needed to put in a specific time to move on to the next puzzle, so she changed the time from 23:59 to 04:51. The clock changed to its digitized ring as yet another echo of a baby's laughter could be heard.
The last thing that Amity had to do now was to go to the home phone nearby to dial 911 and put some kind of password, all while not paying any sort of attention to Odalia. Although determined to solve this odd puzzle, hoping that this would have her escape, she felt unsure if she could ignore the cold breath from the monster. Nevertheless, she picked up the phone and called the 911 number.
"Before we can pretend to care about your issue, please insert your password issued by your state government!" The phone operator robotically repeated. For a moment, this had Amity bewildered at what the password could be. In fact, why is it even asking for a password? That was until Amity remembered the numbers she repeated earlier could be the solution to the problem.

"Thank you! Hopefully, no one answers you soon, you animal!" After the automated message was said, there was nothing but silence in the call—no music, no background noise, not even static. However, what filled the silent hallway was now soft, heavily breathing, taking place directly over Amity's shoulder. The greatest challenge had begun. Amity stood there, not making even the sightless bit of movement or noise to follow the directions of the author of the paragraph.
"Why aren't you looking, Amity Blight? I thought you were always such a good puppet." A feminine voice came from the other line, an apparent attempt to have her react. "How pathetic, you can't even face your worst fear? And yet you still think you can manage a relationship!" Amity tried her absolute best not to give in to this person, yet she couldn't help but feel some level of hatred for them. "Oh! Speaking of relationships, I have a surprise for you~." The person spoke out as Amity could hear the phone being placed on something for someone to speak.
"Amity?... Is that really you?"
"L-Luz?" Amity whispered out as her pupils dilated. For a split second, her world was turned upside down as her brain was in a downward spiral of fear. Why is Luz here? What is this person planning to do with her? Despite endless questions running in her mind, she snapped back to reality and saw in the corner of her eye a hand on her shoulder. She gasped in surprise but was cut short by Amity covering her mouth, remembering that if any movements or noises were made, Odalia would do something to her. It seems like this time, it was forgiving.
"Amity...please help me…."
"This isn't Luz. This isn't Luz. This isn't Luz." Amity repeatedly told herself. She knew this person on the other line was provoking her to look at Odalia, yet Amity can't help but want to comfort this fake Luz. The monstrous Odalia could be heard softly laughing behind her as she tightens her grip on Amity's shoulders. Amity could see that Odalia's face was visible. She was staring directly at Amity with her full black eyes, with one now being stabbed out.
"Don't keep her waiting all day ~." The familiar mysterious voice came back. The last thing Amity heard from the phone call was Luz screaming for her life until it ended, as the dinging from the grandfather clock was heard alongside another baby laugh. All Amity did was stand there, stunned at what she just heard. "You have been chosen." Another voice chimed in and sounded similar to the news reporter on the radio. Afterward, what followed was the sound of the basement door unlocking at last.
Amity headed down to the door, expecting another hallway with more puzzles just to repeat the same pattern for all of eternity. But what she got was… a standard basement room. Full of junk and useless items kept wrapped and in drawers. In front of her was a key with the word 'Freedom' written above it.
"I did it?... I fucking did it?!... Oh my Titan! I FUCKING DID IT!" After being exposed to nothing but traumatic experiences and cryptic puzzles that caused her anger and fear, Amity felt so ecstatic. In a heartbeat, she grabbed the key and ran to open the door to see, at last, the outside world. She was in the yard of the many houses in the neighborhood, covered by a dense fog. She looked behind herself to see a decaying house as if it was abandoned for decades, which would explain the fence keeping her in alongside the grass around her being half of her size as if it hadn't been cut for days. However, the entrance was left entirely open, with a note attached to it that Amity couldn't read due to the fog. She walked out to the other side of the fence, closing it as she grabbed the letter.
"Deep within, there are secrets laid to rest. But we cannot hide forever from the sins of our past. What once was lost will now be found. Blood-stained hands will rise once more."
"Wait...oh no. No, no, no, no, no. Fog? Cryptic messages? Complicated puzzles? Endless hallways? This can't be..." Amity realized what this world she traveled to could be until she was interrupted by a loud voice echoing from afar.
"Dad was such a drag. Every day he'd eat the same kind of food, dress the same, sit in front of the same kind of games... Yeah, he was just that kind of guy. But then one day, he goes and kills us all! He couldn't even be original about the way he did it. I'm not complaining... I was dying of boredom anyway, But guess what? I will be coming back, and I'm bringing my new toys with me."
A loud roar could be heard much farther in the fog as the voice went away. Static from a nearby radio followed as Amity looked off to the distance, wondering what kind of creature could let out such a vicious roar. When the static caught her attention, she knew all too well what that meant.
Amity was no longer in the Boiling Isles. She was far from Emira, Edric, and Luz. What lay in front of her was a town, a town called Silent Hill. What lies beyond the fog would be her worst nightmares and her suppressed sins. And what that radio was telling her was that her own personalized monster is heading toward her right now.
Welcome to Silent Hill, Amity Blight.
