Mariella was making her way home. She had just gotten done with her college classes for the day. She was majoring in psychology. Ella had wanted to better understand the voices that she named Luna. She managed to get a full scholarship to NYU.
Ella decided to stop by and pick up some pizza on the way home. She paid the cashier before snagging her pizza from the counter. making her way to the apartment that she shared with her dad, She could hear people arguing from the inside.
"How old are you, kid?!" She heard Neal ask a blonde girl. Ella gasped as she dropped the pizza recognizing Emma. She could feel tears well up in her eyes as she stared at Emma. She tried to ignore the voices that were telling her to lash out at Emma. Neal looked at her before turning his attention back to Emma.
"Eleven! Now, why is everyone yelling?" The young boy asked.
"He's eleven?" Neal asked as his voice cracked a little at the realization that this boy could be his son.
"Mom?" The young boy asked looking up at Emma confused.
"Is this my son?" Neal asked her as he stared between the young boy and Emma.
"No. My dad was a fireman. He... He died. That's what you told me. You said..." the young boy said in a small voice.
"Is this... My son?" Neal asked as he looked at Emma with shock on his face. Emma moved over to Henry gently cupping his face with her hands. "Yes..." Emma answered. Henry took a step from her before rushing out onto the fire escape. Ella glared at the people in front of her. She tried to fight the voices off. Get rid of the boy. Neal's gonna replace you. YOU HAVE TO GET RID OF THE BOY. Emma abandoned you and Neal is gonna do the same. If we get rid of the boy, you will have your family back. The voice shouted out at her.
Ella gasped as her hand went to her head. She groaned as she slid down to the floor holding her head. her eyes started to turn emerald green, as the voices were starting to win. Luna was about to take over.
Neal saw Ella drop to the ground with her hands on the side of her head. He pushed his way passed Emma and his father and kneeled down next to Ella.
"Hey, Hey, You are okay. Everything's okay." Neal started to say grabbing her hands and making her look at him. He noticed the color that her eyes currently were and knew she was about to have another episode. "Hey, take a deep breath. You are fine, sweetheart."
Ella shook her head. "I can't. I... I can't stop it."
"Yes, you can. Just focus on me. You are okay." Neal said running his hands through her hair as he pulled her closer to him.
Emma walked over and knelt down next to them.
"Is that little Ella? What's wrong with her?" Emma asked as she glanced at the girl before looking over at Neal. She looked so grown up now. Her natural brown hair was dyed a blue color. She no longer looked like the six-year-old girl she met, she looked to appear nineteen. Emma noticed she still had the bracelet she gave Ella for her birthday.
"Get away from me." Ella shouted as she stood up glaring at Emma. Emma appeared taken back at the girl's reaction.
"I just wanted to see if you were okay." Emma said gently as she stared at Ella.
Ella laughed bitterly. "Now you care? You didn't give a damn when you left Dad and me."
Emma turned to glare at Neal who looked away from her. She couldn't believe he told Ella that she abandoned her. Turning back to Ella she tried to reach out to touch her shoulder but the girl just shook it off still glaring at Emma.
"Neal lied to you. I didn't abandon you, Ella I would never do that. I loved you... I love you." Emma started to say as she sighed. "Neal let me take the fall for him for the watches, he set me up. I went to prison. I would have never left you."
"Is that true?" Ella asked looking over at Neal as tears started to fall. She didn't want to believe he would do something like that.
Neal closed his eyes before turning to look at her. "August told me I had to. Emma had to break the curse, us being in her life would have disrupted that. If you had known the truth, you would have gone looking for her. I couldn't have that."
Ella threw her backpack against the wall as it landed across the room with a thud. The noise caused both Emma and Neal to jump and Henry and Rumple to run over to where they were standing in the kitchen.
"You lied to me! You made me believe she abandon me! This is all your fault!" Ella shouted as she started to throw things around. Her eyes were shining an emerald green color now. Luna has won.
He lied to you. He's been lying to you for years. He thought you were too weak to handle the truth, let's show him how wrong he was. The voice crackled.
"Henry go into the other room. NOW" Emma shouted as Henry nodded and ran into one of the bedrooms.
She's scared of you. Good, they all should fear you.
Neal grabbed her arms pining them to her side as she struggled against him. She head-butted him almost breaking his nose. He managed to restrain her enough for him to sit on the ground with her.
"Let me go! You are a thief and a liar!" Ella shouted out as she struggled against his hold.
"Calm down!" Neal shouted tightening his hold against her. She squirmed into his arms before biting him.
"OW" Neal yelled out as his hold loosen on her. Ella quickly stood up glaring at him, her eyes shining a dark emerald color. Emma wrapped her arms around pulling Ella close to her chest. Ella struggled against her.
"Hey, you are okay. Calm down." Emma tried to say as she managed to drag them both to the couch, she managed to sit down still having a hold on Ella. "You are okay. You are fine." Emma said as the girl in her arms lost her fight. Ella started crying as her eyes went back to her natural color, and she ended up crying herself to sleep in Emma's arms.
When Emma noticed she was asleep, she slowly and quietly moved Ella off of her lap. Emma stood up staring at Neal as Henry rushed out of the other room. He wrapped his little arms around her waist in a side hug.
"Are you okay?" Henry asked looking up at her. He was still mad at her for lying to him but Henry still wanted to make sure she was okay.
"I'm fine, Kid." Emma said as she returned the hug with one arm still a little shaken up from what happened.
"What the hell was that?" Emma asked as she glared at Neal. The Ella she knew wasn't capable of what just conspired.
"Ella..." Neal trailed off trying to find a way to describe it. He decided the truth would be good. "She has this voice that tells her stuff and the voice normally makes her act like that. There's so much rage inside, she just snaps sometimes."
"Have you thought about getting her into therapy?" Emma suggested with worry in her voice as she quickly glanced at the girl before looking back at Neal.
"It's not mental."
"It's not? It sure looks like it." Emma said as Henry finally let go of her waist. Henry took a step to stand next to Rumple.
"I don't know what it is but it's not mental."
"I think I have an idea of what it is. There's a legend from our world. There was this girl. she was cursed with darkness. But the girl had such pureness in her heart and she was strong enough to fight it but wasn't strong enough to destroy it. It broke off, sort of like its own person inside her head. Kinda like the dark one." Rumple said as he looked over at Neal and Emma.
"And you think that's what Ella has? But she's not from your world." Emma said walking over to where Rumple and Henry were.
"It's just a theory." Rumple told her.
"How do we stop it?" Neal asked his father. He wasn't on the best of terms with him but if he had an answer to this, he would suck up his pride and listen.
"I don't know. Find a way to keep her rage under control, it seems it only comes out when she's angry. Right?" Rumple asked Neal. He was happy that his son was talking to him.
"Yeah. It started when Emma left."
"You mean when you told her I abandon her?" Emma said glaring at Neal.
"Yeah." Neal frowned as he thought back to when he first met Ella. "Actually that's when it worsen. When I first met her, she was running away from her parents."
"You kidnapped her?!" Emma shouted at Neal. It shouldn't surprise her but it did. Neal glanced at Henry before looking back at Emma. Kidnap was a strong word, he just didn't legally adopt Ella.
"Kinda. she wouldn't go back to her parents, and I wasn't gonna leave her all by herself." Neal said as he noticed Ella starting to wake up. She groaned as she felt all the eyes were on her.
"Stop looking at me." Ella muttered as she slowly stood up from the couch. Her head was hurting, and she was still mad at Neal for lying to her.
"Hard not to after all of that. Are you okay?" Emma asked her. Ella ignored her question
Before nodding her head at Henry.
"So that kid is yours?" Ella asked her. She wanted to change the subject and not think too much of what happened earlier. Normally she could control it, Ella normally used to sing to quell her range. But everything was just too much for her today.
"Yeah, his name is Henry." Emma told her as she sat her hand on Henry's shoulder. Neal walked over to Henry before looking around.
"I think we should all go out for some Pizza. It will give us all a chance to talk. Does that sound good?" Neal asked everyone. He was really only asking Ella and Henry and Emma, not so much his father. But of course, Rumple invited himself anyways.
"You all can go. I'm gonna stay here." Ella said as she walked passed him to grab her backpack. She noticed some stuff fell out, so she quickly stuffed them back in the bag.
"It was gonna be a family thing, Mariella. Besides aren't you hungry?" Neal asked her. She had to be hungry, she was carrying pizza in before she dropped it to the floor.
"Not hungry enough to sit and eat dinner with a liar. I would rather starve than spend more time with you."
"Oh don't be so dramatic kid! You are going. Consider it punishment for biting me. I know you are still mad at me for lying to you, But you are going with us to get Pizza." Neal said shooting her a look before walking over to her.
"Wouldn't you rather get to know your family without me? I've probably scared your kid. He shouldn't be forced to be around me if he's scared." Ella said before Henry interrupted her.
"I'm not scared of you. Come with us! Please? I can show you my book!"
Ella looked at him before letting a sigh. "Fine Kid, I'll go with you. Let me go get change first."
