Setting Prompt: Soulmate AU
When Kaito was younger, he always thought he and his soulmate would be able to live together only by themselves, like in the stories. What he didn't expect was for his soulmate, Shinichi, to have a second soulmate, Shiho. This was proven by how both of their names were written into his skin.
Kaito had been worried at first, of course. He thought this meant that Shinichi would care about Shiho more. They had been together before Kaito entered the picture, after all. And a lot of the time, he still had that worry.
Every time he did, Shinichi or Shiho, sometimes both, would comfort him.
Shinichi was the more physical one of the two, letting Kaito melt into him as he whispered soft words in his ear and slowly moved his fingers through his hair. Kaito would let out a breath he didn't know he had been holding, and would let himself believe that yes, Shinichi truly loved him.
Shiho kept her distance, but she talked softly too, let emotion and warmth deep into the voice that was usually cold. She'd make him hot chocolate and promise that Shinichi loved him, that he had a place in their dynamic, that she cared for him too and didn't want him to leave. And then Kaito would listen and let himself believe once more.
Having two soulmates must have been hard for Shinichi, but Kaito knew now that he loved both of them all the same.
He was glad that Shinichi and Shiho always comforted him, because he was afraid if they hadn't, it would have been too late.
