:Authors note: First thanks for reading, second be ready to hate my guts, unlike a lot of other overlord stories I plan to focus on a perceived worst case scenario for Momonga and the new world as a whole. Through out the story expect a wildly different tale one of depression, loss, undeserved blame and a general feeling of awfulness, oh and LOTS of bloodshed so consider this a warning as well. Oh and please do forgive my shit grammar I've never written like this before so bare with me here.
So let us begin.
CHAPTER 1
And so an era ends.

"Huh?" Momonga said to himself as he opened his eyes expecting to see his tiny apartment around him, but his gaze fell not on his empty room but instead he saw the throne room before him devoid of life. "What the where'd the Npc's go?" He voiced to the empty throne room.
Standing from the throne of kings he quickly began to panic wondering if the devs forgot to log him out as they shutdown the servers. 'Shit if they somehow forgot to force a log out it might scramble my brain when the servers go down' Momongas thoughts barely coherent in his panicked state. While quite rare there were stories of people caught in dive gear mishaps and while not fatal he definitely didn't have the funds to pay for any form of rehabilitation not on a lowly salesman's salary anyway. With only seconds passed he did the only think he could think of he shouted. "IM BEING HELD AGAINST MY WILL I HAVE WORK IN THE MORNING!"
And yet nothing happened, every game these day was supposed to be monitored in order to prevent companies from keeping people in the game against their will and such a phrase being uttered would normally result in an instant kick lest the company face major fines. But yet there was no response. "Wait i know {Message} GM" nothing "What no even if the other players were gone the GM's should have stayed on to try and prevent this exact thing at least for a few minutes"
"{Message} GM" no response.
"{Message} GM" no response.
"{Message} GM" silence
He collapsed at the foot of the throne his panic and despair peaking before a sense of calm washed over him. His panic gone only now did he notice it, his neck awkwardly resting on the sharp corners of the throne of kings was really uncomfortable, something not programmed into Yggdrasil.
"But wait there limiters on touch I shouldn't be able to feel discomfort or" he paused "or pain"
Standing he lifted he reached for the staff of Ainz Ooal Gown floating beside the throne and lifted it. He paused. "Not here" he glanced at one of the many rings on his hand a simple silver band with a large red gem with the guild emblem emblazoned on it before vanishing.
I'm an instant his world went black but was just as quickly replaced by the Familiar stone walls surrounding him. "Good the ring still works" passing a large iron gate his surroundings opened before him into a large arena stands of empty seats lining its entirety. "So not even the golem audience is still here".
This was the sixth floor a lush forest with an equally large colosseum in its center and the perfect place to test his theory. Walking to the center he raised the staff and uttered a command through it. {Summon Demon Eighth} a short distance a ball of fire appeared and grew almost instantly into a towering image of hatred and malice. One of the few high tier summons the staff of Ainz Ooal Gown could summon every day, an Evil Lord Wrath. Seeing the summon form before him Momonga took in a deep breath or mimicked it at least.
In Yggdrasil friendly fire was disabled except for a few cases like duels, certain spells, traps, and exploits. Intending to make use of the latter Momonga prepared himself, very few exploits remained by towards the end of the game but this one he knew still functioned. The staff in his left hand while not an npc did count as a possible target for attack as it was a guild weapon and the main goal of attackers on to the guild, this fact meant that while the staff was considered an ally it's summons weren't making it a great way to test attacks with next to no cost.
Setting the staff far to the side Momonga sent a mental command through the staff. "Have the Evil Lord Wrath cast {Vermillion Nova} on me. Momonga while weak to fire as an undead he had several items to reduce the damage it caused him so in total it would be no stronger than normal. How ever when the Evil Lord Wrath raised its hand and cast the spell fire consumed Momonga and for a brief second he knew the word pain. Gone as fast as it happened the pain left him but in the instant He knew one thing for certain this wasn't a game any more.
After dispelling the Evil Lord Wrath Momonga knew something was wrong and not the fact that he was now the personification of death it's self. 'Ever since midnight something's felt wrong and not just the lack of Npc's in the tombs winding halls'. Instead of teleporting from the sixth floor Momonga had decided to walk the halls back to the throne room in order to check for any remaining Npc's but after two hours of walking he had found nothing not even the pop monsters that were supposed to spawn naturally. "Nothing not a damn thing is here what the hell is going on?" Finally reaching the double doors leading to the throne room he stopped before them. "Wait! what if we're being attacked and the Npc's are trying to stop them on the surface!" It was far fetched as all the Npc's had set paths and locations they could be, but if it really wasn't a game any more it was possible they would instead respond to an invasion by rushing to the enemy's. Placing the staff Next to the throne he activated his ring and teleported as close to the surface as it allowed. Appearing at the bottom of a massive stair case Momonga rushed to to the top already wearing his divine gear he could fight nearly any foe. Reaching the last step He cast {Fly} and soared above the graveyard ready to rain spells on the expected chaos of a fight but what he saw shocked him to his core. Instead of the vast poison swamp that was supposed to surround Nazarick a green field spread as far as his dark vision could see in the pale moonlight. Slowly rising higher he gazed upwards "So nothing remains no Npc's, no pop monsters, not even the swamp we called home is still here to remember your deeds." Floating to the ground he sighed and activated his ring.
Soft couldn't properly describe it, lying face down on his bed he didn't even notice it. Momonga was in his room on the ninth floor his face buried in pillows he'd been like this for hours now. Sighing he turned over staring blankly at the ceiling his mind wandered. "With only the traps to defend it most of the tomb is almost defenseless" he turned to his side "I could summon Mercenary Npc's to fill the gaps but even if the are permanent we don't have many and they're all pretty weak. Ugh if only Punitto Moe were here he would know what to do" He sat up and buried his face in his hands. "I can't leave the tomb unguarded but have to know what's out there especially with the tomb out in the open like this, Okay I know what to do" he stood from his bed and vanished from sight.
Once again standing under sky he raised his hand "{Summon undead middle}" from his hand a vile pitch black blob fell to the ground growing in size until before him stood The epitome of life a towering black knight wielding a massive tower shield in one hand and a rusted flamberge as tall as Momonga in the other. Before Momonga stood a death knight one of his weaker summons but with his many boosts to summons not only was it stronger but it also had a longer summon time. "Search the surrounding kilometer of the tomb if you encounter anything do not engage it" with its orders the death knight turned from Momonga with a growl and sprinted away. "{Create Greater item}" Creating a chair black as the night he sat and waited "With my boosts it should last around two hours so for now it's a waiting game".
By the time the death knight returned the morning sun had already crested the horizon and painted the courtyard of the tomb with glistening dew drops. The sight was beautiful but for Momonga he hardly noticed it as he'd spent the last two hours in anxiety at what the death knight might find. Although he had already been informed though his mental link with his summon hearing that there was nothing of note in the area save for a forest in the distance helped ease His panicked state. With his summon gone Momonga was once again left alone with his thoughts. According to the death knight there was a forest not to far from the tomb but time and it's orders stopped it from investigating. With no immediate threats he had gained a valuable resource time, while he didn't know how long he had till someone noticed the tomb he could at least minimize the visible area. Knowing only one of his spells could do anything for this he began casting, large magic circles formed around him drowning out the dim dawn light in a faint blue glow as a tower of strange symbols and runes circled around him. He knew he'd be a beacon like this but with no other choices he had to do this and so not wanting to waste a Cash shop item he sat there for the full minute cooldown until finally "Super tier magic {Creation}" in an instant the land around the tomb swelled and rose climbing the walls completely blocking the tomb from view. "At least this will hide us from ground level but there's nothing I can do about aerial observation except remain alert." Sighing deeply he turned and teleported back to the ninth floor.
Roughly ten kilometers away.
Enri Emmot had lived a mundane life up to this point with little hardship or strife not even a monster attack witch for a frontier village was almost unheard of. So when she awoke to the sound of screaming and the smell of smoke she knew something was horribly wrong. Dressing quicker than she ever had she grab weed her younger sister and ran out to the small living room. She meet terrified eyes with her mother "What's going on where's dad?" She asked, crashing through the front door covered in blood her father quickly slammed the door shut and began to move their only table to barricade it. "Grab anything you can and barricade the door" she barley hearing him and terrified she froze. "GO NOW" he shouted shocking her out of her stupor setting her sister down she made for her room to grab the small nightstand she had. Rushing to grab the small table she threw what little was on it to the floor and turned back only to see a man in full plate armor raising his sword above her father. With little thought she threw the table as hard as she could even knowing it would do little but delay the man. But that Delay was enough as her father took the opportunity to plunge a kitchen knife threw the small gap between his helmet and chest piece. In one quick motion Aeneid father ripped out the knife a spray of blood coating the knight her father and a nearby wall. Picking up the fallen sword her father turned to her and her mother "You three run into the forest I'll try to by you some time"
Running outside already swinging his sword Enri wasted little time grabbing her sister and following after her father outside. Hell if there was a better word to describe the scene around her small village she didn't know it. The town square was drenched in blood limbs and spilled intestines as knights chopped and hacked away at the villagers like Turing wheat her neighbors the people she grew up with the friends she'd know all her life where being mowed down left and right. Seeing her father desperately swinging a sword he could barely hold she watched as a knight carved through his chest. She ran, her sister in her hands and mother next to her she ran until her mother stopped still. Enri turned to she her mother cough up blood "Take Nemu and run don't look back RUN" and with that the second arrow pierced straight through her mothers neck.
Not wanting to waste a second her mother and father had given her she ran faster then she had ever run. Deep into the forest far from the sound of chaos in the town she heard the distinct sound of metal on metal clinking right behind her. Enri had never run so long in her life so when she heard the foot steps behind her she knew it wasn't long. 'Just a little more just a bit longer and we can hide in the' her though was cut short literally the sword carved through her back leaving a searing hot pain as she fell to the ground. Covering Nemu with her body she hoped and prayed for someone to save her or at least her little sister. But no help came and the last thought that ran through Enri Emmots mind as a blade entered the base of her neck was that at the very least her sister be spared from this nightmare.
Nigun was a proud man and he cared deeply for his work no matter how filthy the task assigned to him. This was because he knew no matter what it would always be for the greater good of humanity. Normally he just went out to kill those filthy Demi humans but his current task was to kill the warrior captain of the Re Estize kingdom Gazef Stronoff and make it look as though the Baharuth Empire were responsible. According to his superiors should this succeed it will greatly accelerate the Empires take over of the Kingdom. And yes this eventual all out war would be the best thing for humanity as a whole.
Currently he was going from frontier village to frontier village raiding and burning as he went in order to draw out Gazef Stronoff and finally kill him. Following only an hours ride behind Gazef Nigun alongside the main force of the sunlight scripture waited, right now Gazef was inspecting the remains of the last village his forward party had torched they would soon find the survivors and knowing the warrior captain he would further split is troop to escort the villagers to safety all according to plan. "Men ready up the next village is the last so be ready to give it you all, I expect no failure."
Gazef sighed "To think anyone would do such a horrible thing it makes me sick" dropping the charred doll he held his vice captain called to him "Sir we found more survivor over here what should we do?" Gazef cursed "Send them to E Rantel along side a few men like the last ones."
"But sir we already have too few men as it is and the way things are looking this is clearly a deliberate attempt on your life!"
"Yes I know this but we can't simply leave these people to fend for them selves they'll die if left alone on such along journey." Gazef was distraught each village they had come across was nearly identical, every home burnt to the ground but three to five survivors nearly unhurt despite not another living soul around. Forced to help the desperate people he had nearly halved his original hundred men. "Take some men with you but tell the rest we move out in an hour."
His vice captain nodded and turned to relay the orders, Gazef knew what was likely coming he knew since he left the kings side. "Being told by those noble to leave the treasures of Re Estize is one thing but to stop me from taking my men is another" with no man power and limited resources it was only a matter of time before they reached the point of no return and whatever foe laid before them turned around and annihilated what little fighting power he had left.
Their rest was short lived as they trekked onward each step slowly grinding away what little energy remained. It was nearing noon when one of the scouts returned on horseback. "Sir! The village up ahead is still under attack we may have a chance to reach them in time!" Knowing this goose chase was almost over he turned to his men "This is it men one last push and we can finally stop these murderers in their places! FORWARD!"
With a rallying cry they spurred their horses and rushed to the village the smoke rising over the nearby treetops proved just how close they were. Gazef was used to blood he'd seen war and knew just how bad it could get, but seeing the horrors usually reserved for the bloodiest of battles turned on defenseless villagers made his stomach turn. The small villages center had been turned into a sight even a zombie might gag at. Villagers had been crucified, burned, decapitated, and many showed signs of being disemboweled and trying to crawl away. It was unlike anything his men had seen and many vomited on the spot.
Unfortunately this was an opportunity as archers unseen fired square into the necks of the hunched over men dropping them like puppets whose stings had been cut. "AMBUSH" Gazef cried cursing himSelf for getting distracted, he let out another curse when he saw imperial soldiers walk out of the surrounding buildings the villages children standing in front of them.
Nigun was grinning ear to ear his plan had worked! The plan had been to force the warrior captain against a wall so when Niguns forces arrived they'd be crushed between a rock and a hard place him being the rock. As Nigun and his squad of mages pushed onwards the sounds of battle could already be heard far outside the village. "Angels ADVANCE!" Nigun shouted his order and the mages obeyed as two dozen golden winged angels flew towards the towns center.
Gazef was a pinnacle of human strength on par with adamantite adventurers even with out his full gear he still moved from soldier to soldier cutting them down in single strikes the problem. No matter how fast he simply couldn't reach the hostages before their heads flew from their shoulders. He tried twice but both times he was met with failure and death. "Gazef Stronoff lay dow your arms and die quietly and we let the children go!" A man shouted his blade drawing a drop of blood from the young girl in front of him.
Seeing no other option Gazef cursed and threw his sword to the side. "There I am unarmed now release the children they have done nothing" he shouted back
"Ha you forgot the part where I said to die quiet! NOW!"
In an instant two dozen angels appeared from over the many rooftops charging not for Gazef but instead what remained of his men. While certainly not the best each one could be considered an elite soldier on their own on par with silver or even gold ranked adventurers, but when faced against those angels each one could barely dodge even though it was roughly a two to one fight. It took less than a minute for his men to be annihilated he tried to rush to their aid only to be met with a yelp as blade were drawn ever closer to hostage necks.
Hands tied and men dying Gazef fell to his knees and Wailed into the air, he never noticed Niguns dagger slide across his neck. "Sir what about the children?" Nigun glanced at the man who spoke. They had been keeping most children they came across alive for this encounter but with it now finished they were only witnesses to the angels the only clue the Slane Theocracy had ever been there. "Kill them all we don't need them" in a single motion a dozen necks were split open as swords drew against flesh. "Come we need to report our success to the cardinals." As they rode away Carne village burned undisturbed.
The Ninth Floor of Nazarick Momongas Room.
Momonga sat at an opulent onyx desk gold etching on every edge a bright orange quill pen in hand that seemed to glow in faint pulses as he wrote in a small leather bound tome.
Day 2. It's been two days since I arrived in this new world so I thought to keep a diary to log what happens. First things first my real name is Suzuki Satoru I used to play a DMMO called Yggdrasil until two days ago I apparently got sucked into the game. While crazy enough on its own I also arrived in my guild base which for some reason is devoid of all it Npc's even the crappy ones that spawn for free! Since then I've been stuck guarding the base myself but my summons aren't permanent and I'm loathe to waste what few Mercenary scrolls we had left. Aside from sending out the occasional skeleton to scout the area I have no clue what's out there but so far I've yet to be attacked.
"Haa" Momonga sighed as deeply as his lungless bony would allow him. Placing the book back in his inventory he stood. "Alright! I've waited long enough I'm gonna summon some mercenaries and take a look around myself!" Teleporting to the library was simple enough what wasn't was finding the necessary scrolls to summon some decent guards he could actually trust. Even in the section labeled mercenaries it to Momonga an hour before he finally found a decent summon. In the end he found only two of the appropriate scroll but it would have to do.
On the surface Momonga braced himself not for damage nor a daunting task, no he braced himself to use an item his guild had only ever come across twice. A mercenary scroll for a adult black dragon, a level 85 summon. Black dragons like most in dragons in Yggdrasil were deadly foes even to a level hundred player. This was because of a unique combo black dragons possessed poison and healing. Yes these dragons would heal you and it was the worst possible outcome. Black dragon poison was strong enough that without absolute immunity you would always suffer at least a few hard hits to your HP on top of paralysis, blindness, weakness, and stamina drain. While undead were immune to most of those effects the fact that these dragons would heal you to prolong your suffering meant they could deal serious damage to undead if they wanted. Sighing again Momonga realized he would have to bite this bullet even if he really didn't want to.
Tossing the scrolls in the air the burst into bright blue flames as two magic circles ten meters wide formed in front of him. From each one the ground crack open as translucent tear ripped across the ground two black claws reaching out simultaneously. In seconds both dragons crawled out from the tear in reality and tuned to look at their new master. "Guard this location should anyone attack inform me and delay as long as possible" "{Fly}" With his orders given and some peace of mind Momonga flew to the edge of his observed surroundings. Earlier after several hours of failed flailing Momonga figured out the mirror of remote viewing and tried watching the surrounding area no further than his undead scouts.
Standing before a sea of trees Momonga hesitated, up to this point he'd ordered any undead to stay away from the forest but now he was going to rush straight into a complete unknown. Fighting his caution he pushed onward walking through the dense underbrush and near pitch black darkness, though his dark vision ignored it. Walking forward for what felt like an hour Momonga finally stopped in a small clearing. "I know you're there hiding is useless" he called to the surrounding forest. "Cunning you are, to notice this one so soon, strong you are yes? But this one is strong too!" A voice came from the forest
"I have no time for games show yourself or leave!" Agitated Momonga shouted back. "You have entered this one's land to speak like that this one must kill you a-shame it is observant one" Ready for anything Momonga readied a spell, like flash of lightning two things happened first Momonga cast a spell second something very fluffy hit him in the chest "Maybe {Grasp Heart} was a bit overkill" He thought aloud. Dead on the ground in front of him was a giant Djungarian hamster. "What the hell is a giant hamster doing here!"
Dead on the forest floor laid what could only be described as a giant hamster, although the scaled reptile like tail was different and it's size. This was assuredly a hamster, why it could speak and why it tried to attack Momonga he simply didn't know. The only thing he did know was that if this was the cannon fodder for the area what where the strong monsters like?
Continuing through the dense forest Momonga could only curse himself for never taking a level or two in any ranger classes. Yes having only walked for about an hour he was well and truly lost 'That's the third time I've passed this tree!' Though he could just teleport back to Nazarick if he was forced to his journey so far had no where near made up for summoning the two black dragons. With yet another lungless sigh he raised his hand "{Blessing of Titania}!" In his out stretched hand a small pink orb manifested. Gently floating from his hand it flew in a seemingly random direction leaving a sparkling trail as it went.
Even following his spell it took nearly a full hour before Momonga came across anything other than dense forest. Walking through a break in the trees he spotted the first sign of civilization he'd seen since arriving a dirt path. Still following the pink orb he mentally cheered as it turned onto the path, meaning it indeed lead out of the forest. While some could find a walk through the woods pleasant Momonga was ecstatic not only had he never seen trees and plants in such detail before but that he was right now about to enter into an unknown adventure thrilled him. "Seeing as how it's a forest it's possible I'm about to enter an elven village that or a human one" Momonga stroked his bony chin "ah"
"Really why did I think I could just walk into a village looking like this" pull his hand into the void that was his inventory he brought out two things. First a simple pair of gloves next came a red and green mask with a permanent frown across it, the mask of envy. Originally a gag item given to spite players who were alone on Christmas it did have one upside, it was indestructible. And it covered his whole face, with his hood up it would be impossible to tell at a glance the he wasn't some kind of humanoid. Satisfied he walk onward never straying far from the bright pink sparkle ball that lead him.
He could tell it had become noon through the few gaps in the trees covering the path "Just how long have I been walking for?" While he did originally plan to take his time gauging what he found in this new world to have spent almost six hours just walking in this forest with only one notable encounter the entire time baffled him. Sure he had seen plenty of small animals running around but to not even see something like a wolf or other predator disturbed him. "There's no way right?" He paused then shook his head "No its impossible that that overgrown hamster was the strongest thing here" He looked around "Shit"
Sighing and resolving himself to look into this later he continued down the dirt path only to stop stock still. Roughly 3 meters ahead of him lied two corpses, one of a young woman no older then sixteen her back sliced open and head held onto her neck only by a few uncut veins, the other a child a girl around nine or ten though he could hardly tell as it was clear she had been beaten to death. Her face swollen and bruised beyond recognition, arms cracked open bone peaking through revealing she tried and failed to protect herself. The worst part of the grotesque seen before him was that Momonga didn't care, sure he had seen the occasional corpse on earth even those of children, but nothing like this "If I'd seen something like this before I would have probably puked on the spot but I feel nothing."
Seeing no other option Momonga pressed on the trees slowly spacing out around him. Before long the trees cleared out entirely and he could finally see the village ahead, or what remained of it. What was once a bustling village now remained a burnt out husk little houses left and littered with the corpses of men, woman, and children alike. Each one found was in a worse state then the last organs and limbs lie everywhere as blood coated the ground and what few walls still stood. What disturbed him most or rather what bothered him that he didn't care the least was the center of the village. Removing his mask and gloves Momonga could only sigh the town center was a blood bath, villagers crucified, children decapitated, and what he assumed were the villages guard dead each one littered with arrows and fist sized holes punched clean through torsos.
Turning away from the sight Momonga walked to one of the few buildings still standing, it's door burst inward he stepped past the debris into the home. While clearly on the larger end for the surrounding buildings it was still the smallest home he'd ever seen his apartment on earth being bigger if just a little. Searching the small living room kitchen combo revealed only a hand full of what looked like poorly made copper coins, placing them into his inventory he turned to the only other room. It's door had also been bust down covering the simple bed inside with wood splinters. A quick search of the room latter and he'd found what he was hoping for, all though badly made it was still a map and from the looks of it it even showed multiple countries. Flipping the dinning table back over he unrolled the map placing a few gems from his inventory to weight down its corners, though clearly hand drawn the map still showed incredible detail. The problem was not only could he not read what few areas had been marked on it but with no survivors to question he was clueless as to which village he was actually in. "I really didn't want to do this but I guess I have no choice, time to go looting".
Storing the gems and map away Momonga made for the closest corpse or which ever he could tell still had pockets. The first was a headless corpse he think belonged to an older man, aside from yet more copper coins Momonga found nothing of use so he moved to the next
And the next, And the next, And the next, And the next.
In total Momonga searched over a hundred corpses and aside from a pile of copper and silver coins in his inventory found nothing of use not even on the men wearing metal plate armor. With only one body left he sighed by now it had become routine to search them pocket, belt, and shirt. In that order, assuming they had those parts still attached. The last corpse the body of a man with a large stab wound straight through his chest finally gave him hope. In the man's shirt pocket untouched by blood was a hand written letter, one he hoped would mention the name of the village. Placing the letter in his inventory for later Momonga stood and turned to the corpse "Thank you for this it will be of great help."
Walking to the town center once again Momonga gaze up it was nearing dusk by now. "Ugh I spent all day here,I hope it was worth all the effort it took better head back." Turning to find a less bloody area he heard a voice cry out "BY THE GODS ITS A MONSTER!"
Having already turned to face them Momonga only now remembered putting his mask away and cursed. Standing at the entrance to the village was a group of roughly fifty men each wearing near full metal plate armor. "Oh by the gods is that the captain!" The lead man pointed looking down Momonga cursed his crappy luck he was standing with one foot atop a man's chest. "KILL IT AND AVENGE THE CAPTAIN!" The leader cried he and his men galloping their horses forward. Cursing again Momonga raised his hand "{Summon undead middle}" like before a blob of darkness fell from his hand but unlike the last time he summoned a death knight the blob fell to the corpse under his foot and began to consume it. 'In the game the flavor text always said undead could use corpses but I guess here it's literal'.
From the captains corpse rose what could only be called death, a two meter tall creature in full plate mail blacker than night crimson veins running through out. In one of its hands a sword taller then the vice captain in its other a shield so massive it blocked half the abomination from view. Turning to the man beside him the vice captain shouted "BERIS, TAKE TWO MEN WARN THE KING OF THIS HURRY!" Not wasting a second three men turned and pushing their horses as far as possible sped away.
Henry had always pushed himself to do more so much so that when Gazef first met him he outright told him "one day you will surely stand beside me" and he did. After years of training he was now the vice captain of the strongest unit of soldiers in the Re Estize Kingdom, but because of this he knew when a fight before him as impossible. This thing he ran towards was unkillable, he could tell from just a glance and not just him the men beside him could see it as well. "DO NOT FALTER AVENGE THE VILLAGES THIS MONSTER HAS TAKEN!" He knew they would die he only hoped that Beris would make it back safely to warn the king, to think that the source of all these destroyed villages and ruined homes was an elder lich. The skeletal being stood behind his creation it's face seemingly smirking at his futile attempt at a fight. "Kill them all" it uttered its voice that of a being born to rule and the incarnation of anger obeyed.
It moved like lightning faster than he'd ever seen even Gazef move, but it didn't kill him no. By the time he had swung his sword expecting to hit a wall it was already behind the formation carving through four men in a single swing. Bodies split in two hit with such force it appeared their top half's exploded rather than be severed. The men were well trained but this wasn't a matter of fear at this point as even the trained war horses beneath them bucked and cried. With another swing two mens feeble attempt at retaliation was met with a blade and severed heads. "SURROUND IT ATTACK ITS REAR!"
What little sanity the men had left thankfully remembered their training but it did little else than delay the inevitable. Bodies turned to paste from the shield torsos thrown like stones from the sword, it was a massacre unlike anything he'd ever seen. Raising his sword with a cry he activated his martial arts "[Flow Acceleration] [Ability Boost] [Slashing Strike]!" Sword moving faster than most could see slashed at the monsters rear hoping beyond hope it would work.
A crash of metal on metal so loud it nearly deafened him sounded through the air. A flash of movement and his world was spinning the last thing he saw as his head hit the ground was the last man be cut in half from head to feet. His thoughts fading he prayed to whatever gods there were that Beris make it to the king.
And so the vice captain died and with him the last of Gazefs warrior band.
Momonga was in shock he'd summoned the death knight to buy time for him to flee not expecting a total massacre. So shocked by this development he completely forgot about the three men running for their lives each one engraving in their minds three things the warrior captains death, the Death Knight, and lastly the description of a certain overlord.
Shaking his head Momonga turned from the sight of yet another mass killing this time his own doing and cast a spell "{Gate}" Stepping through he came out in the courtyard of Nazaricks entrance and quickly teleported to his room on the ninth floor undead or not he wanted to sleep. Back at a destroyed village a walking tower of hatred patrolled the burnt out buildings its masters last orders still in its head "Kill Them All".
Standing over his desk A bespectacled Momonga read a hand written letter. The glasses a magic item meant to translate any written language or code he thanked his intuition he'd kept them for so long. The Letter itself was a bland love note to a boy the writer knew named Nfirea although Momonga was sure he'd found it on an older man. He shrugged "To each their own" the important thing is that not only did the note mention the kingdoms name as Re Estize it even had the name of the exact village the writer lived in! Pulling the map from his storage Momonga unrolled the map what little text was on the map showed that not only was a major city nearby but said city was in between two massive kingdoms. To the west it's home nation of Re Estize and to the west The Baharuth Empire, while he had no idea of the nature of these two kingdoms he figured at least Re Estize was a human nation judging by the village and soldiers he fought.
With the two dragons watching the entrance Momonga for the first time since arriving felt confident he could lay down and relax without getting up every two hours to summon another death knight. While sleep was impossible just laying in the massive bed was more than enough for him to calm down, the last two days or was it three now, had been full of anxiety and panic. Resting his head and clearing his mind he closed his eyes and laid still.
The Re Estize Capital.
King Ramposa the third held his head in his hands as the door to the throne room closed behind the messengers from Gazefs warriors. The news they brought worse than he'd ever expected to come, many nobles had demanded that Gazef leave behind the kingdoms treasures claiming any use outside protecting his majesty be forbidden. Ramposa hated to send his most loyal guard and dare he say it friend to face an unknown threat without proper equipment but wanting to save face agreed with the nobles. To think that instead of a band of soldiers he would face an elder lich commanding some giant undead warrior. The story the three men told painted a harrowing image in the kings mind, if the attacks on villages really were the doing of this undead duo capable of killing his strongest soldier he knew there was little he could do.
Adventurers would be the kingdoms only hope and from what he was told he'd need orichalcum or high ones at that. His only respite from this ordeal was that with such a threat right on the border the Empire would be much less likely to attack. Every year the kingdoms closest neighbors would declare war right before harvest season, while they could never be called more than a skirmish the lack of farmers was slowly starving his kingdom. Raising his head Ramposa called to his aide standing by the wall "Alert the adventures guild of our situation but leave out the captains death lest we cause a panic among the citizens." Stepping from the wall the aide nodded "What of the reward your majesty?" Thinking for a moment the king sighed if he set it too low weaker adventurers would die for no reason while the strong would ignore it outright, he turned to the aide "State the reward as one hundred platinum coins"
The aide gasped "Sire while I would never question your decisions do you truly mean that!" The king hesitated a reward like this would hardly dent the castles coffers it would surely show that the king was desperate "Yes, if even that is not enough I will gladly raise it even higher for the safety of my subjects". Clearly stunned by the kings words the aide turned and left in silence the door clicking shut showed how truly alone this room felt to Ramposa. Over the many years of his rule he had watched as his glorious kingdom went from the paradise of his childhood to the cesspool of corruption in now was, from traitor nobles, thieving merchants, and the vast criminal underground. Yes this was a kingdom of full of rot but he would be damned if he failed the one duty he could still accomplish, no matter what he would stop this monster from harming even one more village.
A hooded figure ran through the crowded streets of the city dodging and weaving between people like water in a river. They stopped in front of a building it's front door crowded unlike any other on the street but this was normal for the building the figure stared up at was none other than the Adventurers guild. However today was different while the guild saw a fair number of people and it was common to reach this level of crowding something was off, usually the noise of the crowds would be deafening today though there was silence. Struggling to pass the wall of people the figure sighed and cast a spell "{Fly}" floating over the people packed literally shoulder to shoulder they scanned the large room. Sitting in a corner booth a tall woman donned in thick red plate male waveD to the floating figure and shouted "HE SHORTY! OVER HERE!"
Sighing they flew over the crowd landing next to the table the large woman from before sat facing another, this woman was wearing bright blue armor golden bands running across every joint. Sitting along side the two the figure turned to the still silent crowd "So boss you know whats got everyone so scared to speak?"
Slamming an empty cup on the table the large woman spoke "Oi shorty you really don't know what happened and here I thought you were the smartest one here" Cutting in before these two started again the blue armored woman cut of the masked figure retort short. "Gagaran don't even start I've had enough to deal with today and I don't need you and Evil Eye getting in another shouting match right now." turning to Evil Eye she sighed normally she was the first to find out this kind of info "Might as well fill you in since we're still waiting on Tia and Tina, the King himself posted a request to slay a lich that showed up around E Rantel it's already killed around a hundred knights and destroyed five villages."
Breaking the stunned silence a new figure spoke beside Gagaran already in the booth. "That's not all evil boss word is that only three people survived the last attack, each one from the warrior captains personal squad" in a mirrored voice to the first another figure sat to the left of the woman in blue spoke up "On top of that an order of silence has been put on the castle but what little come out says the warrior captain himself hasn't been seen for days."
Shaking her head Lakyus sighed, while like sisters to her if they kept sneaking up on the group she knew one day someone would get hurt. "Evil Eye what do you thinks going on from what Tia and Tina said I fear the worst for sir Gazef." Turning her masked face to the silent crowd that filled the guild lobby she seemed to stare in thought "well I think we won't need to make guesses in just a moment."
As if on cue a boy no older than fifteen blonde hair and shining armor drawing every eye to him parted the crowd and beelined for the groups table. "Ah Lakyus Alvein Dale Aindra you and the ladies of Blue Rose are invited to tea by her lady princess Renner Theiere Chardelon Ryle Vaiself." Looking to each of their faces expectingly Gagaran was the first to break the awkward silence. "Hahaha really cherry boy! You barely said all that with out keeling over, how about a round or two to boost your confidence!"
Not waiting for him to respond to her sisters teasing Lakyus turned to the boy "Hello again Climb tell her we would be delighted to attend though I doubt she just wants to have idle chit chat." "Yes her majesty wishes to discuss recent events with the five of you in private, I shall inform her of your acceptance." Turning to leave Climb almost ran face first into Tia who'd someone left the table and circled around him without his notice. "Not so fast tell us what you know first."
While Climb knew the ladies of Blue Rose to be friends the way Tia spoke to him sent shivers down his spine. "Haa lady Renner warned me this would happen so I'll be brief, something's terribly wrong and while her majesty knows more even I can tell you that what you see here is only the tip of it." Stepping from the booth a giddy gleam in her eye Gagaran smiled "The request said that lich had some massive undead with it stronger than a hundred men you know if any a thats true?" Motioning Gagaran to lean in he waved his hand to signal silence "I've heard next to nothing except that someone from the mages guild believed it to be something called a death knight".
Jumping from her seat and almost flipping the table Evil Eye rushed to climb her mask inches from Climbs face "Repeat what you said very slowly" terrified at the small woman's speed he swallowed "A man from the mages guild, called the lich's summon, a death knight." Grabbing her temple Evil Eye fell to her knees "By the six if that man was right" standing she turned to her sisters "While there is little I would say we couldn't handle if that really was a death knight then I'd expect the hardest fight of our lives but." When the silence continued far longer than it should have Gagaran broke the silence. "But what hard or not all undead are the same light 'em on fire hit 'em with a hammer I think we could do it!"
Lakyus not really wanting to break the news hesitated until Tina did it for her. "If that death knight is strong enough to worry Evil Eye by itself what does that say about the summoners strength." Briefly losing her battle lust Gagaran stopped to ponder the situation before smiling again "So what clearly the princess has a plan why else would she send lover boy to come get us!" Suddenly remembering Climbs existence the group watched as he slowly turned cherry red at Gagarans words "I shall inform her majesty you have accepted!" Practically running away they watched as Climb left before Lakyus addressed the group "Get prepared and meet outside the castle in two hours, I need to go get dressed."
Renner Theiere Chardelon Ryle Vaiself was known throughout the kingdom as the golden princess, and not just for her radiant good looks but rather the many social reforms she had either pushed her father to enact or funded out of her own purse entirely. She was even responsible for the abolishment of slavery in the kingdom hitting severely against the criminal underground. Looking in the mirror a young girls face slowly moved and contorted before resting on a gentle smile not unlike a child's, image secure she stood from the dresser and walked to the adjoining door turning the knob she stepped through. "Lady Lakyus I'm quite thrilled to see you and your sisters could join me for tea." Sat at a small table were Lakyus and Evil Eye Gagaran, Tia, and Tina leaning against a nearby wall, sipping from her cup Lakyus wore a bright blue dress while every other member of blue rose wore their full combat gear.
"It's always a pleasure to enjoy your company as well, now than how have you been it's been ages since we talked." Nodding to Evil Eye Lakyus remained silent as the masked girl lifted a hand as magic circles began to line the walls "{Silence}." With a deep sigh Lakyus set her tea on the table "Thank you Evil Eye there's no telling just how many maids or guards were listening in waiting to run of to tell daddy the princesses secrets."
Evil Eye faced Renner "So i presume this conversation is about the lich destroying villages yes?" Renner sipped slowly from her cup before placing it back in its saucer "Gazef Stronoff is dead"
"WHAT!" Everyone shouted in unison "One week ago three men from his squad returned telling of a lich who stood in the center of a decimated village upon seeing the troop of soldiers it turned Gazefs corpse into a massive undead that wiped out over fifty of his elite force." Renners words clearly struck everyone that is until Evil Eye leaned forward.
"I heard that a mage from the magic guild called the summoned undead a death knight is this true?" While her panic at the guild had worried her sisters hearing of the warrior captains death sent home just how dangerous this thing was.
"Two days after the men arrived a platoon of two hundred was sent out from various nobles guards along side them three mages from the magic guild. Only twenty returned with one surviving mage, according to him upon seeing them the monster cut through the lines with ease and after seeing the carnage two mages flew and pelted it with fireballs the only reason anyone was allowed to escape alive. Upon his return the mage told the king of the monster left and was promptly found in his quarters the next day dead by his own hand."
To call Renners retelling of events shocking was an understatement but this did little to deter Lakyus' sense of justice. If a giant undead monster was rampaging through villages she had to at least try and stop it if not for the guild request then for Renner and the people who's lives had been taken. Clutching the hem of her dress she looked to her sisters before gazing at the golden princess eye to eye "We'll do it we will defeat this monster and avenge those it has slain"
Evil Eye shook her head she knew for a fact that Lakyus would say that but regardless of the danger she too couldn't ignore a giant monster roaming the country side "As stupid as it is I'm in too but we have do this right or we risk a fate worse than death. I've fought one once long ago everything they kill reruns as a zombie slave so it's up to the other if they wish to join."
Gagaran nodded "Like hell I'd ignore the fight of a lifetime I'm in!"
Tia and Tina looked at one another and smiled "We'd follow you anywhere Evil boss even to fight Surshana himself." Tina boasted "One question though how much would we be paid?" Tia asked.
Looking up from her tea Renner smiled "One hundred platinum coins, each."
"WHAT!" Everyone cried out as Renner took another sip of tea.
A Dark path somewhere outside E Rantel
Bathed in shadow a hooded figure ran through the dense foliage of the surrounding forest. Moving faster then most could even see they hopped from shadow to shadow never daring to enter what little moonlight peaked through the canopies above. "Shit shit shit, I knew that all seeing bitch would be persistent but this is ridiculous!" Quickly pulling a small object from her cloak she smiled, escaping from Kami Miyako with this in tow had been a near impossible task but so far she'd managed until now. Ever since she'd gotten close to E Rantel she could tell she was being watched and not by a pursuer, no she could tell she'd felt this before it was magic.
Over the years she'd grown used to being watched by The Thousand Leagues Astrologer but now that see was a fugitive it just pissed her off. Her only advantage was she new the spell used on her had to maintain a sort of line of sight so to speak. So jumping from shadow to shadow was still a viable strategy and with her speed it was only a matter of time before she was home free, there was only one problem. Halfway to the city she'd passed through a much larger forest in her attempt to shake any pursuers but for some reason the forest was filled to the brim with zombies! While a simple zombie was easier for her to kill than a child it still took time, time she couldn't waste especially when for some damn reason all the zombies decided to only stand right where she'd be exposed! So forced to either kill the undead and leave a trail of bodies like breadcrumbs or run past and hope none of the rotting bastards had enough vocal cord left to alert the hoard.
She picked the one that let he kill something, quickly pulling her stiletto from a skull she dashed for cover yet again the creeping sensation of being watched only barely passing her over. "Fucking hell if I don't shake her fast I'm gonna be up to my eyes in hit squads!" Jumping to the next shadow she continued her pattern run, stab, hide, and repeat. Years of honing her body to be better than anyone else she still had a limit and by now she was on hour five and zombie two fifty her stamina was faltering. Taking a chance she dove for a dirt path she'd noticed running full speed she simply tackled any obstacles in her path living or not. Seeing a clearing ahead she sped up the sensation of being watched growing ever more strong until she broke through the tree line. What she thought as a clearing turned out to be a village and a pretty ransacked one at that.
Feeling the magics gaze near her she dove through a window of what looked to be the only building left. Inside she knew Thousand League Astrologers magic couldn't reach her but she remained cautious regardless. Flipping a chair upright she sat and tried to get what little rest she could given her situation, finally sighing in relief she figured as long as zombies didn't miraculously double in intelligence a locked door would be enough to keep them from eating her in her sleep.
Despite passing out on the spot she was still acutely aware of her surroundings with every noise and movement noticed no matter how small or insignificant. Even with hyper awareness and extreme paranoia she still managed to get some sleep after all she was exhausted. Dozing off and dreaming of knifes and an idiot brother was just what see needed, a shame she got thirty minutes of rest.
With lighting fast reflexes she dove away from the chair as what appeared to be an entire tree crashed straight through half the house she was trying to sleep in. Stepping over splinters and cracked timber she turned to face whoever dared to mess with her rest only to meet gazes with the physical incarnation of hatred. Standing twenty meters away a massive armored undead reached to pick up an equally massive shield it other hand wielding a curved sword so long it could probably bisect an ogre in one hit. Debating whether or not to fight the creature or run away she activated her martial arts "[Flow Acceleration] [ Greater Ability Boost] [Gale Acceleration]!" Quickly grabbing a stiletto from her waist she lowered her stance, and shot forward like a cannon aiming to pierce the beasts armor with raw power alone.
What she didn't expect was for her blade to bounce of the shield, this thing was fast faster than her. Leaping back she nearly missed loosing her head to the massive sword, redoing her stance she shot forward again. Aiming to circle around and stab at a gap she slid under the wall of iron that was its shield quickly thrusting in a stiletto under its arm and activated its effect. A burst of fire blew outward from every nook and cranny in the undead's armor but from the looks of it did nothing. Cursing the monsters hardiness she slowly began to feel the magical gaze once again pass over her only to ignore her. Clearly focused on the undead the magical observation seemed to distract the thing a chance she wouldn't pass up, dashing away her martial arts still active she booked it from the village never turning back. Clementine silently thanked that bitch Thousand League Astrologer for her charitable deed.
Momonga stepped out of his fading {Gate} spell looking around the still burnt out village. Now known to be Carne he looked for the death knight which for some reason hadn't despawned yet even though it had been nearly a week since creating it. After a brief search made easier by following the mountain of squire zombies the death knight had sired from the corpses of those guards it killed, he found it stock still staring up at the night sky. Curious as to its continued existence he raised his hand "{Summon Undead Middle}" like always a blob of darkness fell from his hand and quickly formed the towering undead.
Two hours on the dot and his newest summon vanished into a cloud of black smoke. "So if the summoning it's self hasn't changed what has to allow this one to remain?" Scratching his temple he turned to look at the surrounding village for clues. Snapping his fingers and somehow still making the noise he smiled, at least internally "Aha corpses! When I summoned the death knight there was a corpse nearby!" Excited and his new combat potential Momonga ordered the death knight to gather every corpse in town.
One pile of corpses and eleven castings of {Summon Undead Middle} later and Momonga had twelve death knights standing at attention in a neat row awaiting his next orders. To say he was happy was a lie he was ecstatic though time consuming he finally had a solution to his biggest problem, how to properly restaff Nazarick. Opening another {Gate} to Nazarick he ordered the death knight to begin taking the corpse home for latter use.
When the final death knight stepped into the gate Momonga stoped and turned to the village. He'd hate to kill without reason but if it meant his home could even remotely have a chance to return to its former glory he would gladly kill billions to protect what little remains of he and his friends years of hard work.
CRASH!!
His thought stopped, someone just set off his counter divination spell. Turning he watched as the sky cracked and shattered the tell tale sign of mass divination. How long had he been observed? Just how much info did he unknowingly just give a potential enemy? Stepping through the {Gate} he hoped who ever dared to spy on him enjoyed the {Triplet Maximized Nuclear Blast}.
Kami Miako
Seventh seat of the black scripture Thousand League Astrologer had seen many horrors in the name of humanity. And while looking for the traitor Clementine she thought she'd found one of the worst. A death knight mid rampage, and while not the strongest clementine was still a member of the black scripture so her not even scratching an undead with fire was unimaginable. However it only got worse as what could only be described as death it's self appeared using the magic of the gods and started creating more of the horrors. Leaving her divine relic she ran to the great hall determined to alert the cardinals before the horrors left her relics line of sight. After a brief explanation Raymond the head of the scriptures ran along side her back to the observation room. Just in time to see the flash of light and then nothing as in an instant half of the largest human city in the world was vaporized in nuclear fire
Nazarick
It would be a Long road to recovery but the glory of Nazarick would be returned. For Ainz Ooal Gown will never fall.
