Alternate Title: if My Hero Academia was a shoujo anime made by me
Inko Midoriya scrambled to shove everything into her locker. Her first day at U.A., and she was already running late. The train was running behind this morning and she barely managed to make her bus connection. She had five minutes until the Gen Ed class started and she didn't even know where the room was. Once her crap was inside, she slammed the door shut and ran out of the locker room.
As she paced down the hall, she frantically read the room numbers. She was supposed to be in Room D-3. The doors in this hallway were labeled G. Maybe applying here was a mistake. If U.A. didn't even use door numbers like a normal school, what else was going to be different here? Did she make a mistake? Maybe she should turn around and go home. Hisashi was wrong – a normal school would fit her much better than this one.
Her panic was suddenly interrupted when she slammed into something hard, knocking her onto the floor. She shut her eyes tightly, trying not to cry. Oh, it was hopeless. She wasn't going to do well here. She'd get expelled. She'd never be able to go to school, again. She'd die alone on the street. She should have never tried to get new learning experiences.
"Oh my god! I am so, so sorry," said someone nearby. "I should have been paying more attention. Are you okay?"
She nodded. "Yeah," she said, meekly. "I'm okay."
Just then, someone grabbed her hand. "Here, let me help you."
Her eyes shot open. Standing over her was a boy not older than she. He had blonde hair, with two long strands framing his face. Inko nearly gasped, as their eyes met – his were a bright blue. Her heart skipped a beat, as he helped pull her onto her feet. Time seemed to slow and the world seemed to vanish. All that was left was the two of them.
After a moment, she finally managed to pull herself away. "Thank you," she said, as she turned away from him. Her face flushed, and she prayed he didn't notice.
"Of course," he said. His voice was a deep baritone. She couldn't lie – it was pleasant on the ears. "Where were you heading?"
She cleared her throat, as she tucked her hair behind her ear. "I-I'm supposed to get to room D-3, but I have no idea where that is."
"One of the Gen Ed rooms? Those are up on the next floor."
She exhaled. At least that was taken care of. "W-well thank you, uh, sir. I'll… just be going, now. See you. Bye." She quickly walked past him, keeping her head down. Most gorgeous guy she'd ever met and she made a complete fool out of herself. What a great way to start this term.
"Wait," he said, as he came running up behind her. "You're new here, aren't you? Because I can show you where your class is."
She shook her head. "N-no, that's fine. I'll find it." She tried to keep her head down, hiding her very rosy cheeks. She just met the guy – it was too soon to start getting flustered over him.
"Really? Because the stairs are back there." He pointed his thumb behind him.
Inko froze. She covered her face with her hands, feeling absolutely mortified.
He just laughed. "Hey, it's no big deal. Come on. I'll show you where it is."
He took hold of her arm and pulled her alongside him. She couldn't help but stare, as they walked together. He was probably just being polite, but she couldn't believe such a gorgeous guy was talking to her and walking with her. He was smiling so brightly, nodding and waving at everyone who passed by. It was hard to not be captivated by it.
"U.A. usually doesn't get new students this deep into the year," he said. "What brings you here?"
She blinked, before she looked down, again. "O-oh, I just wanted to learn a bit more about working with quirks. My old school didn't have a program like that, and U.A. was the closest option to me. I-I didn't think I'd get in. I'm not a first year, so the requirements to get in are even higher. And the year had already started and I'm not really looking to be a big flashy hero. Plus, my quirk isn't all that powerful, compared to a lot of the other students here. So really, I had no idea anyone would even take me-"
Her words came to a sudden halt when she realized what she was doing. She laughed, awkwardly. "Sorry! I-I tend to ramble! It's a bad habit!"
He smiled. "Don't worry about it. You're just nervous – that's all."
Inko's heart skipped a beat, again. He didn't even know her name, and he was being so kind. She could hardly believe it. She shook her head, as he led her up the stairs. "W-what about you?"
"I'm in the Hero program. I'm in class 3-A."
She gasped. "That's the highest ranking class for heroes, isn't it?! You must be really strong!"
He snorted. "I guess that's one way to put it. I don't like bragging about it."
And he was humble, too. He could be talking to anyone, but he was showing some new girl around the school. Was this guy a saint or, something?
They stopped at the next floor. "Room D-3 should be right down the hall." He pointed to the left. "Sorry, but I gotta run. My teacher's gonna kill me if I'm late, again."
She nodded. "Of course. Thank you, uh…" Oh crap, did he tell her his name and she missed it?
"Toshinori," he finished. "And no thanks necessary." He patted her on the shoulder. "See you around!" Then, he took off running back down the stairs.
Inko stood there in the emptying hallways dumbfounded. Her heart was still racing. Her first day had just started, and she was already falling head-over-heels for a guy she barely knew. Her logical mind knew that this didn't mean anything. He was just being polite. But a small part of her hoped that it might mean something more.
This was going to be a long year.
