Heyyy! It's Summer here.

I have mixed feelings about this chapter.

On one hand, I got to write a lot of action and flesh out my characters, which was surprising to me because it was such a short chapter. On the other hand, I feel like this has some pretty typical 'Bella moments', where Wendi swoons and faints into the arms of a big strong man, which was what I was trying to avoid with this whole story. However, there is a reason why this happens, (spoilers, haha), so I'm going to give myself a pass on this.

Anyway, enough of me talking! I hope you like this chapter.

"Jasper fell and pushed your friend, who was standing up, through the emergency exit. He hit his head, so Emmet, Edward, and Rosalie helped him get to his feet while Alice checked on your friend," Carlisle said, and his tone had such authority to it, such finality that it was all he was going to say. I blinked in surprise and looked from Carlisle to Edward expectantly. Carlisle raised an eyebrow.

"Yes?" he said. And being me, and me being stupid, I snorted a harsh, sarcastic laugh. Edward and Carlisle looked at each other. "What?" Carlisle asked.

"That's bull," I said. Carlisle still didn't seem to get it.

"Sorry?"
"That's complete and total bullshit!" I said. It seemed as if the Cullens weren't used to people arguing with them, as they were quiet for a moment. Then, Edward leaned forward, his beautiful eyes compelling.

"Wendi, I think you're confused," he said. His tone was calm, but self-assured as if he were trying to explain a concept I was unable to grasp. But whatever hypnosis magic he was trying to pull wasn't working, because the ice in my mind held firm. I leaned forward too, trying to ignore how close my face was to his, the way he smelled like pine trees and clear, cold mountain streams.

"Well, here's what I think," I said. "I think you're used to getting your own way no matter what, and now that I'm not listening to you, you're just resorting to gaslighting me." I gave him a false smile. "Sound about right?"

He opened his mouth to retort, but he was interrupted by a knock on their door. At the same time, the quiet pattering of footsteps sounded as a figure made its way down the large staircase at the back of the house.

"Don't open the door!" Alice's musical voice cried urgently. Carlisle froze with his hand a few inches away from the doorknob. Edward stared at Alice for a moment and then turned to Carlisle.

I watched as his lips moved, but I heard no sound. It seemed like Carlisle understood because he nodded.

"Wha-" I started to ask, but Alice shook her head frantically, motioning for me to be quiet. I frowned, raising an eyebrow. Edward grabbed my wrist and began pulling me towards the stairs, his skin so cold that it sent an electric shock through me when I touched it.

"Hey!" I cried.

"Wendi," he said, his voice low and quiet. "This is serious. You are in danger. We'll protect you, but you need to calm down and stay silent." I tried to steady my breathing, tried to calm down, but I could feel beads of sweat forming on my forehead, I could hear the blood roaring in my ears. All of a sudden I was uncomfortably warm, and my breathing grew shallow. I tried to stare straight ahead and focus on something, anything, to snap myself out of it but the ice in my mind was breaking, cracking, and I was falling, falling, falling-

He placed one of his hands on my cheek, and I immediately felt better. My breathing slowed down a bit, my panicked gasps becoming quieter.

"Oh, god. You're burning up." He said in an annoyed tone, less concerned, more 'could you be any less considerate?' He shrugged his jacket off and threw it over my shoulders. It was freezing, but it felt good against my burning skin. I took one more deep, steadying inhale, and oh god, the jacket smelled like him. I made a little gasp-sigh. I was definitely not someone to swoon or anything, but I was pretty fucked up at the time, so I decided to bury that moment deep in my memory and never retrieve it.

What the hell?
Why was I losing it like this?

I felt weak at the knees, and it was hard to stand up. Edward seemed to notice, and he shot out a hand to catch me. I glared at him. I was just stubborn enough that I decided I would rather faint from exhaustion than fall into some strong guy's arms and let myself be carried away. This sentiment had some irony to it, an irony that I wouldn't understand until later.

"What the hell is wrong with you?!" he hissed.
"I have no fucking clue," I shot back.

Edward considered this for a moment.

"Don't freak out," he told me.

"Why would I freak- ohhhhh, shit." I broke off as he placed one cold hand under my knees and one on my upper back, and lifted me into his arms.

At this point, I was too out of it to even really understand what was happening. My world was a nauseating blur of colors, sounds, and shapes.

"Where… who?" I muttered weakly, but I wasn't making sense. I mumbled something about having an essay due tomorrow incoherently.

The last thing I heard was Alice's voice saying

"Head for the woods!" anxiously, before my head fell back and I passed out.

Thank you so much for reading. I hope this was as much fun for you guys to read as it was for me to write! If you can, I would love it if you would leave me a review! Feedback is how I get better at writing. Stay tuned for Chapter 6, which is coming out soon!
That's all for now,

- Summer (:
