Chapter One

It was just your usual day in Paris for the famous two superheroes. Ladybug and Cat Noir had just saved a bus full of people from a terrible incident. As they were helping passengers out of the bus one by one, they said, "Thank you Ladybug and Cat Noir!" Ladybug was nice and sounded just as relieved as they were.

"You're very welcome!" Cat Noir held out his hand to those leaving the bus, "Be careful out there."

As the people flooded out and voices slowed, Cat Noir began to speak more. "So, Ladybug, since we had such a great day today, what do you say we celebrate later?"

She rolled her eyes at his idea, "You know we can't know each other's real identities."

He actually laughed, "No one said anything about not wearing a mask."

She sighed, "Look, Cat Noir, I have plans today just like any other person would."

"Yeah, plans with me!" He bellowed. "Meet me on the top of that building over there." He pointed towards a tall building with railings on the roof. "Right next to the bakery, okay?"

Ladybug tried to speak, "I said I had plans!"

He waved her off, helping the last person off of the bus. "Tonight 8 o'clock kay?" He took out his staff and bounced away.

Ladybug could only stand there with her hands on her hips. "You have got to be kidding me."

Cat Noir arrived back at his home, his time to de-transform was now. "Claws in!" Adrien stood in his room, grabbing a back from his closet.

"What are you doing Adrien? Ladybug said no." Plagg was already at the mini fridge, grabbing some camembert.

"I know she did, but you never know when she will actually show up." You could hear the hope in his voice. Adrien then left his room and ran into the dining hall. His dinner was already on the table, waiting for him. He grabbed the plate and took it into his large kitchen, hoping no one would be there.

Luck was definitely on his side. When he walked into the kitchen, there was no one to be seen. He placed the plate near one of the many sinks and started rummaging through the refrigerator. Adrien grabbed some stuff that would make a lovely picnic. Something easy to get together and make, yet still remember to grab dessert. He looked around to see if he needed anything else. "Hmm, I wonder," he pondered. Looking up at the cupboard above the countertops, he found many bottles of wine. Not being extremely logical in the sense of wine, he just picked up a red one and went back to his room.

"Now all I need is candles and a nice blanket!" Plagg had eaten probably three whole pieces of cheese at this point. "There! Now we are all set for the date with the love of my life."

Plagg swallowed what he had and replied, "If she shows up." Adrien rolled his eyes and went towards the piano. He placed a CD player on top with piano practice tracks he had recorded himself. Plagg noticed the large bottle in his bag. "Isn't this cooking wine?" He questioned.

"Wine is wine!" Plagg rolled his eyes. "Come on Plagg I have to set up before she gets there!"

His face was priceless, "You mean we have to go already?!"

Adrien didn't answer him, all he said was, "Plagg, claws out!"

Marinette arrived home just in time to get ready to go out with friends. Alya, Rose, and Mylene were planning on going to see a new movie. She walked in the door to see both of her parents standing there in front of the staircase. Their arms were folded as if they were upset.

"Hey mom! Hey dad! What's going on?"

Her father sighed, "I'm sorry Marinette, but you won't be going out with your friends tonight."

Her jaw dropped, "What do you mean I'm not going out? We were planning this all week!"

Her mother placed her hand on her shoulder, "I'm sorry Marinette but your attendance is absurd!"

Marinette was still in disbelief, "What do you mean?!"

Her father stood his ground, "You are never where you are supposed to be! Being late to class or never showing up at all. Not to mention your grades in Algebra are extremely low. Going to see a movie is not going to help you tomorrow in class for a random pop quiz."

She was even more scared, "THERE IS GONNA BE A QUIZ?!"

He shook his head, "No, well I mean, I don't know! But there could be!"

Everyone quieted down. "You're grounded Marinette. At least for a few days until I can see some progress." She hugged and scoffed, finally walking past them and going upstairs. "Please work on your homework Marinette it is for your own good!" Her mother called out. Marinette didn't say anything, she just went upstairs to her room. She didn't even want to know what was for dinner.

She plopped down on her bed and immediately texted Alya. "Sorry, I won't be able to make it. My parents grounded me for my attendance and the inability to find x."

Not even a few seconds after, she received a reply. "That sucks girl! I mean, you gotta kind of understand them though. You're never where you're supposed to be. It's as if you were living a double life."

Marinette panicked for a second. "Don't be ridiculous! Anyways, tell Rose and Mylene I'm sorry."

Alya texted back, "Don't worry girl, now go kill some of that homework!"

Marinette threw her phone down near the end of the bed. "Ugh, this sucks! Tikki, now what am I gonna do?"

Tikki came out from underneath her pillow. "Oh, I don't know...Maybe your homework?"

Marinette let out another long sigh, got up, and sat down at her desk. "I guess there really is nothing else to do." She gave up and opened her textbook.

Cat Noir had set up the roof perfectly. There were candles on all the railings, twinkling, and bright enough to create ambiance. The blanket lay down with a nice set up of simple dinner. The dessert was off to the side just begging to be eaten first. He was able to pick up a single rose on the way there. He held it in his hands eager and waiting for his Ladybug.

Marinette was scratching her head; she felt like her brain was about to pop. "UGH!" She exclaimed throwing her pencil up in the air. "I need a break!" Tikki sighed, picked up the pencil, placing it back on the desk, and then went to go lay down. Marinette went out on her balcony and felt the cool breeze of the night air. She loved the way Paris looked, lit up bright through the dark. "I wish I had something else better to do than wrack my brain with math." She sighed and leaned on the railing. She just let her mind go, taking in the whole scene finally relaxing for a few moments.

Cat Nor had been waiting a whole hour at this point and was starting to feel discouraged. "I guess she isn't coming," he got up and started walking along the railing. "Why do I do this to myself?" He started questi0oning aloud. "I'm neglected by my father and I'm ignored by the woman that I love." He sighed as the candles went out. "I wish I had someone I could talk to besides Plagg; he sucks at love advice."

When he looked up, he noticed someone else on another balcony. It was the bakery next door. Upon closer inspection, he recognized her as one of his classmates from school. "Huh, that's Marinette. I wonder what she's doing outside right now?" He looked around, had his final wish for Ladybug to show up disappear, and decided to take a little trip next door. "Maybe I could talk to her! She's a girl, she's had to be in love before, right?"

Marinette was dazing out when she heard something beside her, "It's Marinette, right? We've seen each other a dew times." Cat Noir was sitting on the railing right next to her.

She couldn't help the audible surprise that came from her. After she settles a moment, she nodded confused. "Uh yeah! What's wrong, is someone in trouble?"

He shrugged, "Only my heart." Marinette's own heart sank; she had completely forgotten about his plan for them tonight. In fact, she didn't even think he was all that serious about it to begin with.

"Oh? W-what's wrong?" She stuttered.

Cat Noir got down from the railing and sighed once more, "I invited Ladybug for a date and she never even showed up."

Marinette looked down and away from him. "I'm so sorry, Cat Noir."

He was surprised at how sincere she sounded. "Oh, don't worry, it's not your fault!" Her heart sank deeper. "But hey, I'd hate to be alone tonight. What do you say we hang out for a little while?" He held out his hand to her.

Marinette looked back at her door; Tikki was peeping. She shrugged, "Sure, it beats studying!" She grabbed his hand and he gave her a sly smile.

Cat Noir grabbed his staff and leapt to the other building. He automatically shielded her eyes. "Wait don't look! Let me set stuff up again!"

She took over covering her own eyes and waited. Cat Noir lit the candles back, made sure the food was still good, and made sure everything was back the way it should be. "Okay, you can open your eyes now."

She slowly lowered her hands and opened her eyes. It was beautiful. There was a whole meal set up on a blanket, wine, dessert, and candles! Cat Noir walked up to her with a rose, "Here you go, m'lady." He sounded slick like he always did.

Since she wasn't in costume though, Marinette actually felt a little embarrassed. Her face flushed a little, "Thank you." He smiled and motioned her towards the food. "You did all of this for Ladybug?" Marinette asked.

You could tell his shoulders slumped/ "Yeah it's terrible she didn't show, now you'll get to experience it instead!"

Marinette could only laugh nervously as she took a seat. "Wow this all looks so great!" She smiled again, his shoulders lifting.

"Thank you, picked it all out myself!" They sat and ate a few things. They both couldn't wait to eat the dessert. "So, tell me Marinette, are you good with love advice?" She almost spit out her food. "I didn't mean to catch you off guard." He couldn't help but laugh a little.

She got her voice back and slowly sighed. "I guess I'm not that great, considering I'm not having much luck myself." This caught him a little off guard.

He noticed the awkward silence, so he grabbed the two wine glasses he was able to bring along. He motioned towards the bottle, "Would you like to have a drink with me?"

Marinette perked up a little giving out a slight laugh. "I'm not old enough to drink."

He smiled, "I might not be either, but what does that matter?"

She nodded a little surprised, "I guess you have a point." They both grabbed a glass as Cat Noir poured the wine.

"A toast to love," He started. "I don't know if we will ever fully understand it." They clanked their glasses together and took a sip. Immediately both of them spit it out."

"Is it supposed to be so tart?" Marinette asked.

"I have no clue; grapes are so sweet; this doesn't really make sense!" Cat Noir said.

They both boasted in laughter. "Anyways," Marinette said. "Why do you ask me?"

He was kind of silent for a moment. "I don't exactly have anyone I could ask." Cat Noir couldn't look at her. "I've seen you around after my encounters with Ladybug. You have friends, you're obviously young, and you're a girl! I thought you had at least been in love before."

She kind of looked down a moment, him finally being able to glance back towards her. She placed the wine glass on the ground, "I am in love. He just doesn't seem to even notice me."

Cat Noir was shocked yet again. "You're such a smart girl, Marinette. I don't see how this person couldn't notice you!"

She looked up for a moment, "Whenever I'm around hin, my words get all jumbled. I can't seem to say what I want to and that means," she looked down again. "That means I'll never get noticed."

He just sat there and listened to her. "Look, you're an amazing girl. You're smart and have amazing talents! I promise you; he will notice you. He has to!" She smiled a little. "Who is this guy?" He questioned.

This brought Marinette back to reality. "Oh, no way kitty. You're not allowed to know!"

He placed his hand on his chest, "But why not?!"

She laughed. "Because you don't need to know."

He slouched, "Ah come on, I thought we were friend!"

She blushed a little. "Hey Cat Noir?"

He looked over at her, "Yeah?"

She scratched the side of her head nervously, "Why Ladybug?"

He looked like he was caught off guard. "What do you mean?"

"I mean," she stated. "Why are you in love with Ladybug?"

He kind of looked up at the sky a moment. "I guess," he stopped for a second, gathering his thoughts. "I guess when I first laid eyes on her, my partner in crime, well, I guess my partner in stopping crime." He laughed but soon his face was serious again. "Her bravery, our teamwork, her eyes, and that smile. She's perfect! Even if I don't know who she is, she's my Ladybug."

Marinette's face was flushed, surprised that she found herself grabbing his hand. "That's so romantic!" She blurted out.

He smiled, liking the warm gesture. "So, what about you?"

She flooded back, removing her hand from his. "Huh?"

He rolled his eyes, "What about you and your mystery man? Why are you in love with him?"

She stuttered a little as she spoke. "W-well, he was new to my school. In fact, I didn't even know who he was. I actually hated him the first time I saw him." She couldn't help but laugh a little.

What do you mean?" Cat Noir was super confused.

"Oh, it was just a misunderstanding." Her face went back to sincere, looking up at the starry night sky. "Once I realized how nice he was, who he actually was, I was hooked. The look in his eyes when he apologized, that gorgeous look on his face, that was when I knew I was stuck."

Cat Noir's face seemed puzzled. "Sounds familiar," he thought.

She looked over at him, realizing he was a little out of it. "Well, it doesn't matter anyways." He snapped out of it. "Not until I can get the courage to talk to him normally that is."

Cat noir smiled wide, "Well, if you ever need help or someone to practice on, you know who to call!"

Marinette laughed, "You're weird kitty." His smiled widened.

"Well, this was a whole lot of fun, Marinette!"

She nodded, "Sorry I couldn't help you out like you wanted."

He waved his hand, "Oh no, your company was plenty." He blushed a little, "Marinette?"

She looked him in the eyes, "Yes?"

He grabbed her hand, "Think we could do this again sometime?"

She smiled and nodded. "Sure thing, Cat Noir!"

"Friends?" He questioned.

"Friends," she replied.

He grabbed his staff and held on to her as he took her back home. "Have a wonderful night!"

She waved him goodbye, "You too!" Off he went. He had to clean everything up and quickly get back home.

"So, how was your night with Cat Noir?" Tikki asked as Marinette changed into her pajamas.

"It was actually really nice. In fact, he helped me feel a little bit better about Adrien."

Tikki couldn't believe it, "You know he did all of that for you! Ladybug! And all you can think about is Adrien?"

Marinette looked down walking towards the bed. "I don't know what to say Tikki. I guess, the heart wants what the heart wants."

Tikki rolled her eyes as Marinette placed the blanket over herself. "I guess you could say the same thing to Cat Noir's love for Ladybug."

Marinette slumped a little, "I'm sorry Tikki, but it seems as if he and I can only be friends." She snuggled into bed; Tikki next to her. "Goodnight, Tikki."

"Goodnight Marinette."

Adrien got home as fast as he could, turned off the tape of piano music, and sat down. "Plagg, claws in." He was back to normal.

"Wow! That was fun huh? Too bad Ladybug didn't show."

Adrien shrugged and smiled a little. "It was still nice hanging out with Marinette."

Plagg raised an eyebrow. "So, why don't you just get with this Marinette girl?"

He made his way to the mini fridge already holding two pieces of camembert. "I've told you this before, Plagg; Marinette is just a friend." Adrien got up and changed into his night clothes. "I kinda wonder who she liked though. Someone from our school? I wonder if it's someone in our class." Plagg didn't pay attention, he was too into his cheese. Adrien rolled his eyes and laid on his bed. "Well, goodnight Plagg." There was no answer. "Plagg?" Adrien then heard a faint snore. "Whatever," he laughed.
