Now: It's time for some training.
Chapter 14- Sasha vs Viran
"You sure you're up for this?" Viran asked, amused as he stretched his arms out.
He was standing across from Sasha in the training dojo. Both of them were stretching out their muscles to get ready for their spar.
"I'm the one who suggested it," Sasha said as she stretched out her legs. "Now you ready?"
"Always," Viran said, flashing her a smile.
Viran dropped his arms and detached his lightsaber from his belt. He activated the saber and took up the salute Oppie had always taught them to start with. Sasha did the same once her saber was in hand and on. Once they saluted, they stepped into their ready stances. They stared at each other for a long moment. Then Sasha launched forward. She came at Viran with a series of quick strikes that he had to take a step back to parry each one. As her blade came down for another strike at his leg, instead of blocking it, he leapt over the blade and as he landed he Force pushed her back.
Sasha skidded back, but kept her footing. It was Viran's turn to charge forward with a series of quick strikes. Sasha blocked each one while standing her ground. Viran then swung for another fast strike, but she stopped it not with her blade but with the Force. She held Viran's blade in place as he struggled to get it loose from her Force grip. Sasha smirked at him before lashing out with a slash to his shoulder with her saber. Viran watched the blade come down and thought quickly on his feet. Ditching his saber in its Force locked position, Viran let go of the hilt and tucked and rolled away into a crouch from the incoming attack.
"Are you trying to let me win?" Sasha asked as she still held his saber in place in midair.
"Not on your life, sweetheart," Viran chuckled as kicked out with his leg and kicked her in the left calf.
Sasha yelped as she lost balance as her legs were kicked out from under her. However, instead of falling to the floor on her butt, because he only got one leg, she actually slid forward into the splits. That caused her to lose concentration on holding his saber in place and caused it to drop. Viran caught the saber as it fell before rising to his feet. He looked down at Sasha, who was glaring up at him from the floor. He brought his blade up and over his head to aim for her. Sasha rolled to the side, avoiding his blade and rolled into a crouch. She reached out with both hands and Force pushed him backwards. Viran wasn't ready for that. He flew back and impacted the matted walls with a hard thud. He grunted at that. Sasha popped up to her feet and leveled her blade at him.
"Is that the best you can do?" Sasha taunted.
"Oh you ain't seen nothing yet," Viran said with a smirk.
Using the wall to his advantage, Viran launched forward to continue their dueling dance.
"You think Kyr will be back in his armor soon?" Oppie asked Cien next to him, and she was walking alongside him in her full armor.
"When he wants to." Cien answered.
Oppie shrugged, worried about why his brother was still not wearing his armor, it was strange to see Kyr walking around the house, albeit over the last several weeks he had gotten used to seeing him in just his flight suit rather than his full plates.
Oppie pulled the door open to the training room and stopped as he saw the lightsaber fight going on. "Looks like the room's occupied." He told Cien.
"Ha, our turn to watch." She said, pushing the door open further, and Oppie shrugged, coming in to stand beside her as Sasha and Viran continued their spar.
Sasha and Viran continued back and forth, trading blows with each other. Their blades swirling around in arcs of blues and greens. But they were too evenly matched. So Viran decided to use his acrobatic skills to evade her blade as it came down towards his head. He ducked under the slash and rolled to the side, putting space between the two of them. He knew that if she got a strike on him, this match was over and he wasn't giving up yet. As he came out of his roll to his feet, he brought his hand up to Force push her. But she thought the same thing. Her hand met his as they both were Force pushing each other. However, the Force was building up between them until it exploded outward, sending them both flying across the dojo.
Viran tumbled, managing to roll over his back and awkwardly to his feet. His shoulder did not like that, but he shook it off. Sasha had also tumbled across the room and was already back on her feet, waiting for him. He leveled his saber at her and she did the same to him. They slowly moved closer to each other until their blade tips met in a brief flash of sparks. Sasha then batted his lightsaber out of the way as she came in for a strike to his middle. Viran brought his hand up in time to block his saber with the Force as he whipped his blade around to attack her. She blocked his saber too with the Force. They now stood at this stalemate as they glared each other down.
Their staring contest only lasted another moment before Viran kicked forward with his leg and sent Sasha back. She stumbled back, grunting at the kick. She flourished her saber around her as she regained her composure before bringing it in for a strike towards his shoulder. Viran brought his blade up and blocked the attack. She pushed forward into their sabers, locking them in place. They held the lock for a long moment before Sasha smirked at him. Viran gulped slightly. Sasha released one hand on her saber and while the other held the blade in place, she looped her arm with his as she started to rotate. In an act of strength that surprised Viran, Sasha managed to pull him over her back and throw him aside. Viran felt his shoulder pull slightly at that, but he was more concerned with catching himself at the moment.
He landed on his knees after rolling to a stop. Viran looked up at her wide eyed as he had not expected that from her. She came forward to deal the final blow, but Viran wasn't done yet. He blocked her saber as it landed just above his head. She pushed down on the saber as he pushed up against hers. It was a battle of physical strength between them. However, Viran was stronger. He pushed up as he stood. He then batted her saber away, but before he could go in for his swing. She Force pushed him back. He skidded back, keeping his footing the whole time.
"I feel like they're too insync with each other." Cien murmured at the impressive display. "It's like watching someone fight themself."
Oppie just shrugged. "They've always been like that." He observed with a smile.
Viran stayed his ground and waited for Sasha to come to him. She rushed forward and brought her saber around, aiming for his middle. He blocked it. She brought it around her head and slashed for his back. He brought the saber around and blocked it. She then swung again for his shoulder and he blocked that to allow them to once again meet in a clash. Viran was the one to smirk this time as he wrapped a leg around her legs. Grabbing her wrist, he pushed forward which caused her to fall back over his wrapped leg and impacted with the ground. Their sabers never parting the whole time. With her now pinned, Viran twisted their sabers around, disarming her then leveled the blade at her neck.
"Yield," he panted.
"Fine," Sasha said, out of breath.
Viran moved off of her and to his feet. He then held a hand out to her to pull her up. Sasha took his hand and climbed to her feet. That's when they noticed they had an audience.
"Oh hey guys," Viran waved as he breathed heavily. "Did you watch the fight?"
"Yeah." Oppie said, "impressive as always." Oppie said with a nod.
"Thanks, Op," They said at the same time.
"I've never seen the two of you lightsaber fight each other before." Cien observed.
"Really?" Sasha said surprised as she wiped the sweat from her brow. "Huh. I know it's been a while since we last sparred. How long ago was that?" She asked Viran.
"I think it was before our knight exam and you won that time," Viran remembered.
"So it's been a while then," Sasha said, shocked by that. "Well what did you think?"
"Your spouse is very skilled." Cien said with a smirk, looking between them.
Viran beamed. "Thanks Cien."
"Yeah, he's something alright," Sasha said with a smirk as she punched him lightly in the arm.
"Ow, rude," Viran groaned as he rubbed his arm.
Sasha chuckled at that before suddenly the sound of the baby monitor sitting on the bench nearby went off. She sighed. "Alright, looks like my break is over. You guys have fun sparring," she said as she grabbed her water bottle and the baby monitor and left the room.
