At four-thirty p.m. Danielle stood next to David in the lobby of Xanatos Enterprises, anxiously awaiting their guests. "You're sure they'll come?"
Her brother smiled. "They'll be here. McBeth wouldn't miss the opportunity to be owed a favor and Demona wouldn't miss seeing us squirm."
"How right you are, David."
Danielle turned her attention to a red headed woman about her height, dressed in a white business suit, crossing the lobby floor towards them. She stopped just short. "I'd never miss that."
"Now Demona..." A thick Scottish accent filled the room from behind her, and Danielle's eyes connected with those of a muscular white-haired man. "…let's not be cruel. We've been asked here as a favor." He smiled and extended his hand to her. "Ahh, this must be your beautiful sister I've heard so much about."
Returning his smile, she took his hand. "Please, call me Danni."
"Danni, huh?" He released her hand and shook David's. "Your description hardly does her justice, boyo."
Demona laughed. "That's because he didn't want a relic hitting on his sister, McBeth."
David chuckled. "Perhaps we should take this discussion upstairs, the rest of our party will join us shortly, and as we know…" His eyes locked with Demona's. "…you'll want to change yourself."
A smirk formed on Demon's face as they began making their way toward the elevators. "I'm just as happy to make my change in public David. No need to be discreet for my sake."
McBeth sighed. "Just get in the damn metal box, woman."
Her smirk grew wider. "Already so short on charm? What a shame, I suppose you haven't found anyone to warm your bed lately and that's why you've chosen to engage the child?"
Danielle sighed. "I'm hardly a child."
McBeth smiled, their eyes meeting as the elevator began to move. "Compared to me lass, you are indeed."
David folded his arms and leaned against the wall. "We should have seen you separately, I'll make a note for next time."
Demona's gaze moved from him to Danielle and another smirk formed. "Tell me child, has my once-hopeful lover finally come into maturity?"
"Demona!" David and McBeth both growled though it didn't seem to faze her, her gaze still locked on Danielle's. McBeth turned to her to him. "Just because you're not the center of attention, it doesn't mean you should turn your hatred on this girl."
The gargoyle turned human smiled. "Doesn't it?" Her attention returned to Danielle. "Let me do you a favor and enlighten your young heart to some hidden truths." Danielle watch as she spread her arms dogmatically. "Once upon a time, not long after the clan had awoken, I was made the enemy of everyone involved. My fate was unjust. One night I came across a young gargoyle that had just not of yet come into his heat. I showed him the horror of your kind and he assisted me in trying to correct Goliath's point of view. His reward was to be my virtues and devotion once he'd come of age."
Anguish and questions began to fill her mind. Brooklyn had never spoken of a time like this, only that there had been a time when he hated Demona, but she realized there was so much they'd never spoke about.
Seeing her emotions begin to surface, McBeth took pity on her. "Demona, that's enough."
Demona growled at him. "It's far from all I should warn her of. After all, a human could never complete with…Ahh!
Danielle watched as Demona and McBeth doubled over in the floor together. She realized that McBeth had pulled a stun gun from his jacket pocket and fired on his own torso.
David smiled ushering her off the elevator, and down the hall at a slow pace. "If McBeth hadn't shut her up, I wasn't going to have too."
Danielle sighed. "You said they were bound my magic, but I didn't think it would affect them like that."
Her brother led her to the couch and sat as well beside her. "Normally, with some distance it wouldn't but since they're together…" His hand moved in the hallway's direction. "…anyway. I think we'll just wait right here."
"Why?"
His smile widened into a smirk. "Because they should make this room just as the sun sets, and her change is a show I'm not going to miss."
Danielle quirked an eyebrow at him, resting her elbow on the back of the couch. "And why is that?"
Her brother face spread into a wide smirk. "Because she'll hurt like hell from it."
