Love.
What is it?
What causes it?
Why does it happen?
Honestly? Who knows. Whether you fall in love or don't, whether you can feel love or can't, it's still there.
It could be your love for your family, the love you've created for your friends, a love for a show or a game, or just a general sense of love. You know what these loves are. They can't creep up on you as easily because you go for them.
Now, a love between two souls who don't think they can feel it? A love between two souls that are so sad and just so lonely that they couldn't help but seek each other out?
Now that's love.
Now of course, it isn't that easy!
But you know what caused this love?
Time.
The moon stared into the distance as she looked down on the people below and sighed in boredom.
Ahhh, humans. What funny creatures. Always seeking something and yet never satisfied with anything. How greedy.
Moos nighed again, this time in frustration when she couldn't find anything interesting from the people who she had been told to look after.
"Sure, throw me in here with no fun or nothing. How great." She muttered to herself but suddenly sat up straighter, her eyes glowing. Literally glowing.
"How interesting." In front of her popped up two young men. One 16 and the other 18 both of them seemingly lacking a bright soul.
"Oooh, I haven't had something like this in a while." She clapped her hands excitedly as she studied the two and she couldn't feel but feel a tad bit melancholy looking at their smiles.
Their masks looked so well put up, a human wouldn't question twice. That happy glitter in their eyes dimmed down so much but unnoticeable by those who couldn't be bothered to see what was on the inside. Truly, how infuriating. She oh so hated having to deal with masked souls, it made her job all the more difficult.
"Well I haven't seen such fake smiles in a while. Oh dear, oh dear, oh dear we have work to do."
Moon felt herself smile. Ahhh, it had been a while since she had lost souls.
That night, the moon shined a little brighter.
Ace sighed as he tossed and turned in his bed for the nth time before eventually giving up on going to sleep and tossed his covers of him.
He had tried everything to sleep! He had watched something incredibly boring, he had counted sheep, he had walked around his room! His body was exhausted but for some reason his mind seemed to be running.
He tried to ignore the little voice that pointed out he could always call his brother if he truly felt this troubled and made his way to his room's door.
'I might as well grab something to eat. Plus, I barely ever ate at Dinner so what could anybody say?' He argued with the voice that said that he might get caught.
As long as he didn't eat any pre-made food everything should be fine! He'll just make something quick downstairs.
With a goal in mind, Ace set on his way to his dorm kitchen, making sure to watch out for his steps so as to not alert anyone that he was up.
Silently, he made his way to the kitchen and let out a sigh of relief that nobody had heard him.
After the disaster that had been the housewardens Overblot everyone was still walking on eggshells so Ace was comforted with the knowledge that he would fully be alone at night.
He walked to the dorm kitchen and started taking out the equipment and ingredients to make noodles, making sure to be extra quiet so as to not clank the pan and wake everyone up. He let out a sound of relief when he managed to get everything ready and with minimal noise.
Just as he was about to start making his noodles he heard a cough come from behind him.
He jumped and opened his mouth to let out a shriek but someone else's hand clamped down on his mouth.
"Shhhhhh." Hissed a familiar voice and when he looked up it was to a pair of familiar green eyes.
"Cater-senpai?" Ace asked in shock, confused as to what his senpai was doing up at this hour. "What are you doing here?"
"I could ask you the same thing, Acey-chan!" Though his words were upbeat, his eyes held an unfamiliar coldness to them. "I thought we would have learned our lesson from sneaking to eat the last time round." He teased.
Ace flushed and looked down, fiddling with his shirt.
Now. He was no wimp. He could hold his own against a fight and could tear into someone so hard that they would go running to cry to their mother.
However. Ace was tired. He was hungry. And most of all he was scared of a senpai he had grown to mildly trust after the overblot incident and didn't like how cold he was being treated.
"I just got hungry." He mumbled, looking down.
It was silent in the kitchen, so quiet you could hear a pin drop, and Ace took the time to collect himself so as to not burst into tears in front of his senpai.
Finally, Cater let out a tired sigh and placed a gentle hand on Ace's shoulder causing him to look up.
"Sorry. Just been tired these past couple of days. Didn't mean to take it out on you." Cater apologised, a smile on his face. Ace couldn't help but feel wary of said smile, a feeling told him not to trust it. No matter how bright it was to others, he couldn't help but feel it dimmed Cater's face.
"It's fine, senpai~" Ace had managed to compose himself to at least put on his facade.
Cater spared him a glance, a look that said what he couldn't put into words but Ace ignored it. They'll address his problems when they address Cater's.
"So what are you doing here? You know it's past curfew~" Gone was the previously scary senpai, now in his place was the senpai that Ace knew.
"I just go hungry." Ace whined. This is good. This is familiar. This he can do. "Plus! I didn't take anything out of the fridge! I'm making my own hard worked for noodles!" Ace pointed out the pan and the noodle packet and he saw a shine in his senpai's eyes.
"Acey~"
"No."
"Oh come on." Cater threw his arm up and collapsed onto Ace causing the younger to grunt as he tried to balance his senpais overbearing weight. "Make it for your favourite, tired and overworked senpai!" The fucker guilt tripped and Ace was tempted to just go back without his meal before his hunger won out and he sighed reluctantly.
"Fine. You owe me!" He winced when he felt his upperclassmen squeeze him tightly before letting him go and twirling to a chair.
"Of course! I'll show everyone on magicam how talented my-"
"No!" Ace turned to him quickly before wincing and checking that no one had heard him. "I do not want this getting around school!"
"Ehhhh~ Why not? I thought Acey-chan would have been more than happy with the attention!" Cater pouted, placing his chin on his hand whilst his free one held his phone.
"Yeah no." Replied Ace as he turned to the pot to make sure that the noodles were still cooking well. "Attention? People looking at you? Dealing with people? Ew." Shivered Ace in disgust.
Cater didn't verbally reply to the response, only letting out a small 'hmm' before the sounds of tapping could be heard.
Ace couldn't lie, the sound of Cater's phone tapping and the sound of the noodles were peaceful enough that they could have lulled him to sleep but no! He was going to eat his hard earned food!
"It's done." Ace informed his upperclassmen as he started setting out bowls for the two of them.
"Aren't you just the sweetest!" Cater cooed as he finally put his phone down to take his bowl and a pair of chopsticks that Ace had laid down.
Ace just sighed once again as his overzealous senpai and started on his own meal savouring the taste of his meal. It was peaceful as the two students enjoyed their meal in peace. However, it was interrupted when Ace heard the sound of a camera clicking.
"Cater-senpai!"
"Now-now!" Cater laughed flippantly, holding his hands up to calm ace down as if Ace was the one overreacting. "I wasn't going to post it! I just wanted to take a picture!"
Ace stared at him incredulously, clearly not believing what his upperclassmen was saying. Cater, however, met his glare head on with a smile and after a few moments Ace looked away, pout clear on his face as he turned back to his noodles and muttered petulantly "Then what's the point in just taking a picture?"
"Because of the memories!" Cater replied in a duh tone. "I wanna remember the good times I had with everyone."
Ace stared at him deadpan. "Dude, I've known you for like a week at most and I was almost killed during it because of your enabling."
Cater just laughed him off, carefree as always.
Ace rolled his eyes at his eccentric upperclassmen before going back to finish off his noodles in silence. Once finished he stood up and went to go wash his cutlery in the sink, along with the pan.
Silence still reigned between the two of them, the only nose being Cater slurping his noodles and the washing of the dishes. Finally after what felt like hours but was really a few minutes Ace Turned to bid his senpai goodbye.
Cater looked up from his noodles and Ace almost jumped at the look in his senpais eyes. Green eyes stared into him, cold as ice with no warmth behind them, almost threatening him to stay in his place and Ace felt his body comply as he stood there frozen in the kitchen, eyes soley on the ginger.
The stare must have only lasted a few seconds, maybe a minute at most, but to Ace it had felt like an eternity stuck under the others icy glare. Just as if nothing happened Cater's signature carefree smile reappeared and he winked at Ace playfully
"Of course Acey-chan! Also your food was delicious and don't worry! I'll clean up my own plates!" Cater stood up. "Goodnight and don't let the bed bugs bite!"
"Ace felt himself at the childish phrase and praise and puffed up his cheeks, stalking away angrily, however being mindful about the fact that it was still the dead of night and he would be screwed if anyone caught him.
When he finally reached his dorm he felt a sudden bout of sleepiness hit him and he yawned.
He staggered to his bed after closing the door and collapsed ontop, bringing the blankets up for warmth.
He yawned again and as sleep finally reached him, one thought played on his mind.
'What was Cater-senpai doing downstairs anyway?'
Cater collapsed in his chair in relief when his clone came up to him and told him that Ace had gone to bed.
"Ahhh, what was he thinking?" Cater asked himself.
It had been a great idea to create clones to camp outside to catch students past curfew to ensure that no one tried to speak out. Things had been tense since Riddles overblot and Cater did not want to deal with further drama to deal with it.
"But he is a good cook." He commented offhandedly to himself before he winced as he felt a strong kick in his head.
"Let's just hope that I won't have to create more clones. I don't think I'll be able to handle it if I overblotted." He muttered to himself and then yawned. "Well it's time for Cay-cay to go get some sleep."
The moon giggled to herself as she watched her latest project slumber, all but dead to the world and what was about to happen.
"Hey moon!" Came the sun from behind her and she didn't even groan, all too happy about what was going to happen. "You seem chipper." He pointed out. "A successful project happened?"
Moon stared at him before throwing her head back and letting out her first real laugh in eons. She turned to him, eyes glittering like stars and replied with a bright smile "I have no idea."
