CHAPTER 1 - PROLOGUE
"It's over."
Robby did not say this as a threat. He did not say it as a question. Merely a blunt statement, uttered with absolute clarity, as he stood over Kyler's limp, semi conscious body, who was lying opposite the glass-covered gas fireplace in the living room.
Not for the first time, Cobra Kai had attempted to storm the Larusso house that night. Despite this attack being much more meticulously planned than the last one, even timing it at a time they knew nobody would be home except Anthony (the target) and maybe his sister, there was one thing they didn't consider, and that was the Queen Cobra. The only female All-Valley champion to-date. Cobra Kai's fearsome leader, but one who was very much on the fence about remaining with the dojo for as long as she did. She was amongst the last to find out about the assault Cobra Kai were planning, and that was it. That was the straw that broke the camel's back. She was done with Cobra Kai, once and for all, and more importantly, she couldn't let this home invasion go ahead. All it took was a quick call to her boyfriend, of the leaders of Miyagi-Do, and within minutes the entirety of Miyagi-Do, as well as Tory, were at the Larusso house, just in time too. For almost as soon as the last Miyagi-Do arrived to defend the house, the wave of Cobra Kais arrived.
Robby, Miguel, Hawk, Demetri, Sam, Tory, Chris, Mitch, Bert, Nate. Cobra Kai never even stood a chance. Led by none other than Kyler, it didn't take long for the fights to begin, and promptly come to an end as the Cobras got laid out left and right. While Kenny had gone right for Anthony, Kyler had gone straight for the "Cobra Kai traitor" himself, and it had hardly ended well for him. Robby didn't even need to use any of his surroundings to aid him in winning the fight. He merely completely reined his mind in, finding a way to ignore all of the chaos echoing around him, and he beat Kyler with complete ease. A barrage of strikes, a lethal kick to the head, and a hip throw takedown was all it took to put the boy flat on his back, scowling daggers up at him.
"It's over." Robby repeated, his voice rattling through Kyler's brain. "Call off the other Cobras and leave…"
HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
Kyler's heart pounded, and his head whipped around the room, briefly averting from Robby's piercing gaze. It turned out he didn't need to call off the other Cobras. All of them had decisively lost their fights, and were already heading for the door to escape the house. Robby was right. It was over. But little did he realize for who. It took everything Kyler had not to break into laughter or smile then, as he needed to sell the act of being the loser. Robby had seemed to have forgotten one of the most fundamental lessons of Cobra Kai: the fight is only over when YOU say it's over. And Kyler had certainly not claimed the fight was over. In fact, it was only just beginning…
Contrary to popular belief, Kyler was not an idiot. He was a smart man. Or at least, he was a man who learnt from his mistakes. And now that Silver had spent the past few months working with him to control his temper, he had turned into a younger version of his sensei, just as conniving, even if he didn't possess the same bite. Last home invasion had gone disastrously wrong, and if anything this time, they had even less firepower in their arsenal, given the students Miyagi-Do had. Which was why this home invasion… it was only part of the plan. This whole thing wasn't about allowing Kenny a chance to get back at Anthony. It was a chance to get back at the entirety of Miyagi-Do, a dojo that shouldn't even exist after their tournament loss…
Kenny had played his part in the plan to perfection: he had done most of the recon, lying in wait across the street to see which days and at what times Anthony's parents and sensei were out of the house, so they would have an optimal window to attack in. The rest was all the planning of Kyler and Silver. They knew full-well about Tory's reservations about being in Cobra Kai, and knew for a fact that if she even caught a hint of their plan, the first thing she'd do would be to turn on them. It had even been Kyler's idea to use that to their advantage. As a way to rope not just Anthony and Samantha, but the entirety of Miyagi-Do into their target range, ready to be taken out. Telling Tory about the attack at the last minute had successfully done just that, and so when the Cobras' vehicles parked outside the mansion for the second time in a year, they knew exactly who was waiting for them inside. But once again, Kyler and his gang had deviated from their exact plan last year, as they knew how horrible the end result had been for them in that attempt. No… this time, they had a proper, iron-clad plan that they would achieve, or die trying.
So rather than storming the house immediately, Kyler and Kenny hopped over the fence and tiptoed around to the back of the house, where Kenny had discovered a pipe that connected the gas fireplace inside to its gas source, during one of his reconnaissance missions at the house. After he had found this, it had kickstarted their real plan to life. As planned, Kyler and Kenny carefully bent and dented the piping like Silver had taught them, in a way that didn't completely cut off the gas supply to the house, but instead did the exact opposite. It damaged whatever withheld the flow of gas into the fireplace while it was off, so now gas uninterruptedly and uncontrollably flowed through the piping and into the house. Stage one had been completed. Gas was now trickling to the house, seeping into the fireplace, ready to ignite as soon as someone turned on the fire. It was not unlike the tension that had been building up between the Cobras and the Miyagi-Dos over the past few years. It had been building, building, building. Even during the school fight, even during the house fight, even during the tournament, that had not been the climax, but merely build up. THIS was going to be the climax, where everything erupted and Miyagi-Do would be buried for the final time.
Now that this had been done, it was time for the next step: blocking off all exits to the house. Almost impossible to do without alerting the Miyagi-Dos of their presence, but the Cobra Kais managed to pull it off. Other than the door they were about to enter from, the Cobras barricaded every other exit from the Larusso house by propping objects under the doorknobs, just like they planned. Now that that had been done, it was finally time. Time for an assault. Mark the date: August 15th, nearly exactly a year on from the school fight that had rocked the Valley. This was the date when Miyagi-Do was finally blown to smithereens once and for all.
Now, it was time for a diversion in the form of a home invasion. Quite possibly the hardest part of the plan, as it was the most likely to go wrong in some way. As Silver had told him: it only takes one person losing their fight to the point where they can no longer walk away for the whole plan to have to be aborted. Everything had to be perfect, even amidst all of the chaos of a house fight, for them to even stand a chance of this plan working out. The likelihood of it all working out was similar to that of a man without hands being able to play through an entire piano concerto without missing a note. Very, VERY low odds, but they had to try. As Sensei Silver had told them, this is what true soldiers were made of. They put their heads down and charged on with a mission, even when the probability of success was close to zero.
They all burst through the front door as a unit, each individual clear on exactly what their mission. For most of them, it was to pick a fight with Miyagi-Dos, creating a diversion as Kyler commenced the plan. Ideally, it was for the Cobras to win the fight, but even if they didn't, it did not affect the plan at all. No… the plan relied solely on Kyler at this point. Silver doubted Kyler could do it. Even Kyler had doubts that he'd be able to achieve it, but he was determined to prove him wrong. Kyler's job was… to look for a remote.
Okay, it was slightly harder than that. Because while he looked for said remote inside the house, he needed to fight arguably the best young fighter in the Valley. And if that wasn't hard enough, Kyler needed to direct that fight into the living room area, where the remote was most likely to be. So as Robby kicked him around, and threw him around the room, Kyler's eyes darted around the room, searching desperately for the remote he needed. Not a TV remote, like the one lying on the sofa. No, what he was looking for was smaller than that. It took a few minutes, and several clobbering blows to the stomach and head at the hands of Robby, but eventually Kyler's eyes lit up as he found what he was looking for. Just in time too, as his fellow Cobras were already starting to head for the exits of the house. 5 minutes of fighting. That was what they had agreed amongst themselves. 5 minutes, and then all of them got the hell out of there and allowed Kyler to complete the mission.
Robby threw Kyler to the ground once more, and Kyler pretended to lay there for a moment, the remote on the ground and resting against his back, out of the eyeline of Robby.
"It's over." Robby had told him. Yeah, you're damn right it's over. This was it. This was the moment Cobra Kai finally took down Miyagi-Do, and it was going to be Kyler to land that finishing blow.
"Fine." Kyler muttered, scrambling to his feet, the remote now in his hands, nobody paying much attention to it though. All of the Miyagi-Dos now without an opponent as the Cobra Kais had escaped, they all stood from various spots around the house and watched Kyler wearily. They knew the fight was over, and it appeared that Kyler was retreating too. They had won! Kyler's head whipped around the room. He spied the wreckage that was the entire ground floor of the house. The dining table, broken in half from someone being thrown up against it. Glass items smashed all over the floor, causing a loud crunch as Kyler's shoes walked over them. He then saw the looks on the faces of the beaten down Miyagi-Do students. Looking past the bruises, gashes and scrapes on all of their faces, Kyler could see the hope and satisfaction in their eyes as they had finally "beaten" Cobra Kai. They were about to be proven dead wrong…
The remote still in Kyler's hand, the asian teenager stopped when he reached the front door, and he slowly turned around to face the Miyagi-Dos, and at this point, he could no longer stifle his grin. His eyes flickered down to the black remote in his hands. It was the remote to control the fireplace, the fireplace that for the past 5 minutes, had been filling with dangerous amounts of gas. His finger froze on the enormous red button at the top of it, the button that would turn on the fireplace and ignite all of the gas inside in what would surely be a massive explosion. And even luckier for him, it looked like the explosion would claim its first victim within a second of exploding, as Robby was leaning back against the fireplace to catch his breath. Big mistake.
"Hey pussies!" Kyler called to them, stepping further back towards the door, ready to sprint out of the room as soon as the explosion occurred. "Cobra Kai never dies…"
With that, Kyler clicked the button on the remote, almost as if he was detonating a bomb. And sure enough, just then, the fireplace erupted in a colossal fireball and a deafening BANG!
