Chapter 1:
Hermione was sick of the fighting, the constant battle was starting to drain her soul of what little persistence she had left. The golden trio had been searching for horcruxes for months on end without almost any success. And she was tired of the unceasing letdown.
A plan had started to develop long ago in Hermione's mind, a plan that she now knew had to be done. It would hurt to leave her dear friends behind, and all of the details were far from clear even for her, but it was the option that seemed most likely to help them succeed in defeating Lord Voldemort. What significance did her present day life really have compared to the greater good?
She looked around the now dark and gloomy forbidden forest and reached down into her bag.
"Accio Time turner." she mumbled quietly.
It is time, she thought to herself as she let the time turner fall to the ground and stomped on it with all her might. As the darkness engulfed her she knew her new adventure, and perhaps her last one, was about to begin.
She woke up in the seemingly unchanged dark forest, not knowing for how long she had been laying in the damp grass. Hermione did not rise, she simply looked up at the stars and hoped that her plan had worked, that she had made it back to 1944. And there, with the stars and moon asher only witnesses, she swore a secret personal oath to herself. She was going to kill Tom Riddle.
Hermione was not naive. She knew that messing with time was a dangerous ordeal. Things would change irrevocably and she would not be able to take her actions back, she knew that she probably would be stuck here in the wrong time for the rest of her life. Nevertheless, after careful consideration she had come to the conclusion that she did not care about the future where she was from, she cared about the people in it and they would be better of without it. Many of her friends were already dead, and those who were not seemed to be broken in a way that would never be repaired. Her eyes shut and she took a deep breath to calm herself from her thoughts. Nothing could be worse than what she had already been through. Nothing. Most certainly not a future without Lord Voldemort in it.
Killing him would be hard, he probably already made at least two horcruxes. She knew of them though, which made things a hell of a lot easier. The diary must already exist, Hermione knew that Voldemort made it during his sixth year at Hogwarts. The second horcrux must be Gaunt Marvolo's ring, but hopefully Salazar Slytherin's necklace was not made yet, if it were she would have to seek that one out too.
She covered her face in her hands and shook her head before taking a deep breath and rose from the ground. Hermione cautiously made her way towards the castle and upon entering the gates a person long gone in her own time was there to greet her.
"Hello young miss, are you in need of assistance?" Albus Dumbledore smiled at her, and his eyes twinkled just as warmly as they had in her own time.
She stared at him while sadness slowly clouded her features.
"I am. Is it possible for us to talk somewhere a bit more private?"
Hermione took a sip of her warm tea before continuing with her story. Dumbledore had not said a word after she started talking.
"So basically I am from the future, 1998 to be exact, and I am here on a very important mission. For me to complete that mission I need to attend school here, so I hoped you could help me?" She scanned his eyes for any inkling of what he was thinking about.
"I would very much like to help you, Hermione. I cannot however just simply trust that you are who you say you are or that your mission here is good. That would be naive of me. I need to ask, can I have a look at your wand?"
"Of course!" She handed it over.
Dumbledore closed his eyes and mumbled something under his breath before four numbers appeared in the air above them. 1991. The year that she bought her wand from Ollivanders.
He gave her wand back to her and furrowed his brows.
"Never have someone went this far back in time, that we know of, and survived. This is something we need to contemplate. Why did you succeed in an area where no one has before you?.."
"I have no idea how or why, it was a rather impulsive decision if I may be frank with you." She paused briefly and put her cup down on the table between them. She closed her hands in her lap and continued "I am here for good reasons, and I can only hope that you can trust me in that."
He studied her for a little while before answering. "I do. Sorting starts tomorrow evening when the new students arrive, you will be resorted with them. Let me talk to Armando for you and we will make an arrangement. But I can not stress enough how important it is that no one knows that you are from the future Hermione. You probably already know of the dangers that the wizarding world are in right now but I must warn you about this anyway. Do not tell anyone besides me of your predicament." The last sentence sounded dire. Hermione could only nod. The hint of Grindelwald was obvious and he was right about being careful.
"We will say that you are a halfblood girl from france named Hermione Granger, that background story is not as easy to track down as if we would have given you a pureblood family name, and I will also pull some strings at the ministry to forge the necessary documents for you." Dumbledore continued.
Her mouth curved into a relieved smile. "Thank you, professor Dumbledore"
"Please miss Granger, call me Albus."
Hi!
I decided to write a fanfiction. A few months ago I began writing another Tomoine fanfiction and was not quite happy with it, so I decided to start over again :) I hope you will enjoy it, hopefully it ends up being a long one!
