Hey guys! I know I usually do TMI fanfics, but I recently got this idea for a THG Everlark fic. Sooo, I was thinking: what if President Snow actually cancelled the Quarter Quell after Katniss' pregnancy got out? We all know that Katniss was never pregnant to begin with, so how would they go about this? Would Peeta actually get her pregnant? Or would they try to make it seem as if Katniss had a "miscarriage"? This may or may not turn into a multi-chapter story, but if it does, I'll try not to cancel it this time. We all remember "TMI- but Clalec?". *visibly shudders*
Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy this first chapter. If you want to see the story continue, make sure to comment. (Also, I read these books a while back so some of it is a little fuzzy!)
Katniss POV:
It was time to watch more of the Capitol's footage of the Games. Katniss and the rest of them had gathered around the TV in the living room of their quarters. It was the night after the interviews, after Peeta had announced Katniss' "pregnancy". People in the Capitol had been rioting, saying it was cruel to kill an unborn child, that it was "too far". Katniss, personally, knew that President Snow would never cancel the Games over something like this, or so she thought.
The footage was about halfway through when President Snow had interrupted the program for some urgent news. It was unexpected, to say the least. What did he have to say? Katniss thought that he was going to address the riots in the Capitol, say something along the lines of: "The Games must go on, no matter who is at stake" or "We must remain united and the Games are what symbolize that unity."
Instead, the President said this: "Last night, during the interviews for our tributes, some shocking news came to light. District Twelve's Katniss Everdeen is expecting a child with Peeta Mellark, her fellow tribute from the district. After thinking about it for some time, I've come to a decision: the Quarter Quell shall be cancelled. While the purpose of the Games is to ensure that rebellion in the districts is avoided, I fear that if we allowed the Games to continue the opposite would happen. I also feel that it would be cruel to sentence an unborn child to death. Not to mention, our young Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark have already sacrificed so much for us, including their wedding. So, as it stands: the Quarter Quell will be cancelled and moved to next year, with a new prompt. And, Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark will have their wedding, along with our Capitol's finest doctors to look after their unborn child. That is all. Good night."
Katniss just sat there in shock, her mouth agape. She couldn't believe it. Why would Snow cancel the Games over a pregnancy? He had to know that it was fake, after all. She felt Peeta's gaze on her, and she turned her head to look at him. His mouth was moving, and Katniss had to focus on just that to hear what he was saying. "Katniss, are you alright?"
"Y-yeah.." Her own voice sounded distant, like it wasn't really her speaking at all. "Oh my god, Peeta. What are we going to do?"
Peeta just shook his head at her. "I don't know." He sighed, and looked over at Haymitch, who hadn't said anything yet. "What do you think, Haymitch?"
Before Haymitch could respond, Effie butted in. "This is completely unbelievable! Why would Snow do something like this?! It's completely out of character for him!"
Haymitch spoke next: "I don't know, but we gotta figure something out. Quickly, too. They're probably going to be wanting to check Katniss within a few days."
"Is it though?" Katniss spoke like Haymitch hadn't said anything at all, looking at Effie. "Out of character for Snow, I mean. He must've known that Peeta was lying and he took advantage of that. Snow likes it when he has the advantage."
"Yes, but.. cancelling the Games? Surely, it would've been smarter to continue with them, right?"
"Not really. He probably thinks that we're either going to admit that we lied or go along with it. If we admit we lied, he'll kill us. If not, then he'll have Capitol people around us all the time, we'll never be to get away from him." They were in an ultimatum. Admit the truth, they all die. Go along with it, then they would never be able to get out of Snow's influence. They would be trapped.
"What if Katniss had a miscarriage?" Peeta asked, looking at Haymitch directly in the eyes.
"Too early in the pregnancy, nobody would believe it." Haymitch responded. "And if we admit that Peeta was lying, he may not just go after us. He might go after our families and friends too."
"So, what?" Peeta frowned. "We have to go along with it?"
Haymitch shrugged and looked at Katniss and Peeta. "I don't really see a better option."
Cinna sighed, making Katniss jump. She'd forgotten that he was there. He then said: "We might be able to delay any doctor's appointments by a few weeks, until we figure our next move."
She couldn't believe it. There was only one option that didn't involve them getting killed in this scenario and that involved her getting pregnant. She had never even wanted to get married. Now, she was expected to and have a child? All because of President Snow? It was unfair, but then again, life was always unfair for people like her. Part of her was suddenly wishing that she would've just died during the Games, then none of this would be happening to her. It was all so overwhelming and she wasn't sure she could take it anymore.
"Katniss?" Peeta shook her suddenly. "Are you listening to us? Katniss?"
Katniss was suddenly aware that her breathing was heavy and black dots were beginning to cloud her vision. She felt the world slipping away from her and was distantly grateful that she was sitting down. Her vision went completely black and the last thing she remembered before she blacked out were Peeta's blue eyes.
I know, I know. This chapter was very short. That's only because I wanted to get y'all's opinions first! Make sure to comment if you want to see more of this story, more THG stories, or if you want me to stick with TMI stories. Bye! :)
