Prologue
Kiyose Higashi High School, an ancient building in Kyushu that only became a high school in the sixties. It is unknown exactly how many purposes the building served over it's long existence but it is well known that according to folklore, the site the school sits upon was a site of great spiritual significance. Some felt that it was possible to commune with Spirits of the departed there, still others felt the school was actually cursed and a terrible incident in a hidden shrine somewhere beneath the school had caused violent and dangerous ghosts to stalk the halls at night. It was partially to dispel these rumours that the young man who had just gained entry to the school had come that very night. Said young man was a reporter named Noboru Kawano and was aged twenty-four with short straight black hair and black eyes, he had pale skin and broad shoulders. He wore simple white pants, a dark blue collared shirt and black polished shoes. He currently found himself standing in the lobby of the school, looking around at the array of lockers for the students that lined the walls of the otherwise bland but clean lobby. He carefully began to walk forwards, not noticing the shadow that moved behind him as he did so. He noted ruefully that he'd have to do something before leaving about his footprints. It was raining after all so he'd left wet footprints on the tiled floor of the lobby. Finally reaching the carpeted hallway of one of the school first floor corridors he paused and looked around.
The corridor was a typical high school corridor, nothing scary or haunting about it apart from the lack of light making it look eerie in his flashlight beam. To his right was a series of doors which led to the classrooms on this wing of this floor, two classrooms both two door sets.
'Do I check the classrooms or do I go down to the end of the corridor first?' He mused.
He shook his head and shrugged, it didn't really matter he thought, he'd be searching the whole school anyway. So, shrugging he entered classroom 1-A and began to look around. It seemed to be just a regular high school classroom with nothing special but then, to his shock, as he reached the teacher's desk at the back of the classroom, he heard it. He spun around looking around for the source of the strange giggling he head.
'Someone else is here, but who...where are they?' He hesitated before calling out. "Hello?"
No answer. He began to wonder but quickly dismissed the thought from his mind. He was here to prove all the talk of ghosts and such was nonsense, not to perpetuate the myth. He was sure it was just another student who was here for some reason and now they were messing with him, again for some reason. He made his way over to the door nearest the teacher's desk and opened it quickly, stepping out into the corridor to find it empty.
"This isn't funny." He snapped, looking around.
But there was still no reply, at least not a vocal one. Suddenly he heard the sound of a door slamming and turned. The door to room 1-B had been slammed shut, and therefore not closed properly, not sitting ajar.
Feeling a little nervous now, wondering just what was going on, what the purpose of this ridiculous prank was, Noboru edged towards the classroom warily. He knew after that he was trespassing and if found it would mean no end of trouble for him. Inside the classroom he saw...nothing. There was nothing in here, although unlike the previous classroom, there was an object of interest. On one of the desks was a book, he approached it and picked up, it was a book on local folklore and a page was bookmarked. He opened it up and read it:
"The purpose of the Shrine." He read. "Located beneath Kiyose Higashi High School has a sinister history connected to an ancient demonic spirit Rabirinsumasutā. The voracious appetite of this monstrous spirit can only be appeased by the sacrifice of a soul deemed worthy. These rituals took place throughout the early 12th Century up to the early 17th Century. Since then there have been no known sacrifices taking place but disappearances taking place in the school are believed to be connected to this ritual and may in fact hint at a cult still operating under the thrall of this spirit."
He put the book back down on the table and scoffed at the nonsense.
"Give me a break, try focusing on what's real instead of writing that nonsense. Some demonic spirit, ha." He muttered to himself.
Shaking his head he decided he was done searching here, so he just needed to exit the classroom and find the stairs to take himself upstairs and resume his search.
But as he exited the room he felt a chill up his spine and heard the girl giggle again. He turned sharply to see the girl this time, standing at the other door to classroom 1-B, she was of average height but he couldn't make out much of her face and long dark hair covered her face, she wore the school uniform which consisted of a grey pleated mid-thigh skirt with a white long sleeved blouse, a black tie and navy blue waistcoat, white loose socks just above the ankles and brown loafers. She looked rather shockingly pale and for some reason Noboru was unable to move as the girl reached out towards him and then, suddenly he screamed in horror and dismay before he felt and saw no more and when the school janitor arrived early in the morning there was no trace of the girl or of Noboru Kawano.
End of chapter, hope you enjoyed it, read and review please.
