Back to November

Story Summary: Tragedy derails every plan Blaine made for himself, but an unexpected new mentor leads him to a new path. While it gives him purpose, this change does nothing to stop the gut-wrenching pain he lives with every day.

Years (and years) later, what will Blaine do when he's given the opportunity to go back in time and "fix" everything?

Notes: Seblaine Week 2022, Day 5 (Time Travel) & Day 7 (Years & Years Later)

MCU-ish crossover AU. I say "-ish" because all MCU characters are only supporting and my knowledge of them is limited to the films (I don't read comics). However, I do follow their timeline, meaning some Glee canon events are moved and in one case a major event is adapted to fit the timeline.

Glee: Begins in the weeks between 4x04 "The Break-up" and 4x05 "The Role You Were Born to Play".

MCU: Picks-up following Iron Man 3.

Dedicated to sperrywink. The picture of you, me & Jeremy Renner staring down at me gave the MCU angle idea.

WARNING!: Major character deaths (x2) but this is a story about TIME TRAVEL…so, deep breath.

Chapter Title: November 8, 2012

Chapter Summary: Exactly one year after finding Sebastian, Blaine loses him

Time Travel and Years and Years come later

November 8, 2012

30 seconds after Blaine found out Kurt and Rachel planned to come support Finn in his directorial debut of Grease he had the idea…a big I'm so sorry/Please take me back number at Dalton on the Grand Staircase where he and Kurt first met. All he had to do was get permission from the Headmaster and ask the Warblers to help.

Had he spoken to any of the Warblers since last year's Regionals? Yes, he had. Well, technically, he had spoken to A Warbler.

Sebastian

They were in the early phase of repairing their friendship when Chandler came into the picture. Kurt's explanation was the music store clerk was just a friend who also happened to be going to NYC for college next year.

Like that sounded better

When his usual tactic didn't work (ie...make Blaine rollover and give him what he wants), Kurt went to his old standby for anytime he was in the wrong but didn't want to admit it…Sebastian. "My friendship with Chandler is no different than yours with the Meerkat."

Three days of the same arguments, two overdramatic Whitney Houston themed performance in Glee Club and one thoroughly embarrassing meeting with Miss Pillsbury later, he and Kurt came to an agreement. For the sake of their relationship, they would each end all contact with the supposed "other man". Or, to phrase it differently, to get his boyfriend to stop sexting with another guy, Blaine had to give up his friendship with Sebastian immediately.

And of course, he did. His only solace being this time he held out for a few days before giving in.

From Blaine: Sorry, we can't do this anymore

What he didn't expect was for Kurt to grab his phone and block Sebastian's number so there was no way to send a reason why. Ok, he could, but not if he wanted to avoid the drama from the next time Kurt "accidently saw his messages".

But, hey! How awkward could it be seeing him again?

The answer: Pretty fucking awkward

This led him to ask (more like grovel with) Sam to come along. Blaine knew it was a huge favor to ask since Sam was now dating Brittany and Santana was suddenly in town. It's not that he didn't trust Brittany, he didn't trust the situation.

Who could really blame him considering what happened when he was dating Quinn?

It turned out Blaine's fears were unwarranted, at least his Warbler fears. They were stand-offish at first but after they realized the members of the New Directions weren't there to spy on them like the weird new Captain insinuated, it was all good.

But what the fuck was going on Sebastian? Why wasn't he Captain any longer? And where did he go? He'd been in the Warbler Commons with the others when he and Sam arrived. The rules of Dalton Boy Manners 101 dictated he stay for the duration of the guests' visit, even if they did not interact.

It was a time for a new plan…time for NightBird and the Blond Chameleon

While he (NightBird) went with this Hunter guy, Trent and some new Warbler (basically Hunter's assistant/lap dog) to the Grand Staircase, Sam (Blond Chameleon) would get information on what was going on with Sebastian.

"Are you sure you want me to find out?"

"Of course…why? What have you heard?"

Sam knew he was a little slow to pickup on social cues at times, but Blaine had to be fucking blind to not see what was going on with Sebastian. "Heard? Nothing. But I have noticed a few things."

Blaine didn't have time for an explanation. Hunter's cat was giving him the evil eye and the fluff-ball was even scarier than his owner. He quickly surveyed the room then pointed to the three Warblers at the head table. "That's Jeff, Nick and Thad. If anyone knows anything about what's going on with Sebastian, it will be one of those three."

He was unable to question Sam on what he found out until they got back to his house a couple of hours later.

"Nothing really"

In the short time he and Sam had (shockingly) become best friends, Blaine had learned the differences between Sam's many, many facial expressions. Usually it was something to do with a performance or an impression. Not this time. This was Sam's You don't want to know look. "Just tell me."

"I would but I really have to get going. Traffic is bad this time of day and I can't get stuck if I want to pick up Britt on time for our movie date. We're going to see that new documentary about the Avengers during the Battle of New York. The one using only videos shot from people's cell phones. Artie said it was awesome. I didn't think Britt would want to see it but turns out she has a crush on Hawkeye…and Black Widow. But I promise, I'll tell you…"

He knows it's selfish, but Blaine can't stop himself. "It doesn't have to be everything. Just…please."

Sam checked his phone for the time. He was already pushing it but Blaine had those damn puppy-dog eyes.

"2 minutes. I'll tell you as much as I can in that time but it'll be down and dirty. No sugar coating to spare your feelings. You'll have the entire night to think about what I told you and decide which direction you want to go in. And no calling me or any of the Warblers or Kurt or even your brother. And especially don't call Sebastian."

"I don't have his number anymore" Blaine mumbled under his breath, but evidently loud enough Sam heard.

"That explains a lot. So, what's it going to be? Down and dirty now or tomorrow after rehearsal we go to the Lima Bean for a nice long chat?"

In most situations, Blaine had the tendency to overthink everything, With Sam's ultimatum he didn't hesitate, taking out his phone and setting the timer for 2 minutes.

"Go"

"Remember, you wanted this…Sebastian is, and has always been, hopelessly in love with you, you idiot. I could see that the minute we walked into the Commons and he laid eyes on you." Sam held up his hand as a reminder for Blaine not to interrupt. "The guys said Sebastian heard you had, and I quote, freed yourself from Gayface's clutches, and since you chose today to return to Dalton, he got his hopes up. When you announced why we were really there, Jeff, Nick and Thad got Sebastian out of there. They're very protective of him. That's it."

Blaine glanced at his phone. "I still have 70 seconds. What do you mean they're very protective of him?"

"Sebastian took all the blame for the Slushie that hurt you, even though the only thing he did was throw it. Then he continued the asshole act to keep focus on him."

Huh? "Why? I don't understand."

"He knew something like nearly blinding a former classmate who transferred and was now in a rival Show Choir on a permanent record could stop the others from getting into an Ivy League college. And since his dad…"

"His dad is on the Alumni Board at Yale. Admission is his birthright, or so he's been told since he started kindergarten. But Sebastian didn't want to go there. He wanted to go to one of the NYC arts schools for dance."

"Now he's going to Yale to be a lawyer and the rest of the Senior Warblers got their early Ivy League admissions as well." The timer on Blaine's phone broke the silence that followed Sam's revelation. "Sorry, I've got…"

"No, Sam, I'm sorry." Blaine escorted him to the front door but wouldn't let him go without a hug. "Thank you Sammy."

"Are you going to be ok?" Sam was beginning to question what he had said and not stay to help Blaine through it. However, after what the Dalton guys told him, his friend had to figure this out on his own.

"Are you going to be ok?" Sam was beginning to question dropping this information on his best friend and not staying to help him through it. However, after everything the Dalton guys told him, Blaine had to figure this out on his own.

"More than ok. Tell Britt I said hi."

Once Sam was gone Blaine went to the kitchen for something to drink. He couldn't shake off one thing Sam told him.

since you chose today to return to Dalton, he got his hopes up.

What was so special about today? His mom's wall calendar gave him the answer.

November 8, 2012

One year since Uptown GirlAre you a Freshman?...Bashful schoolboy…Sex on a stick and sings like a dream

One year of instant attraction…snarky smiles that made him blush…stares focused on his ass whenever he walked away

One year of supporting his performances…letting him vocalize how much he missed Dalton without it being an issue…funny memes when he had had a particularly bad day, even when he hadn't said anything.

Ok, so the last one group he named hadn't lasted the entire year but that wasn't Sebastian's fault. No, Sebastian had tried. Did he fail on occasion? Sure, but he had been upfront from the beginning how he had never been in a friendship like theirs before.

Or had he said relationship?

Blaine finished his water, turned out the lights and headed to his room. A hot shower and good night sleep sounded totally awesome.

When he woke-up the next morning everything was clear. He wants Sebastian. Hell, for the past year he's wanted Sebastian, he just couldn't face it until now. But why? So he didn't have to admit what an idiot, choosing to leave Dalton for McKinley? For a boy who would eventually abandon him there?

Looking at the time, Blaine knew if he didn't haul ass Dalton's classes would be in session by the time arrived. He got dressed in record time, mostly due to the fact he didn't bother to shave, gel or put in his contacts. If Sebastian truly loved him he'd have to get used to the real Blaine…a side of himself he was always afraid to share with Kurt.

That should have been his first clue.

Wow! He'd have to address this obvious Kurt Anger , but not this minute. Right now, the only thing that was important was Sebastian.

Sliding into the living room to get his school bag and shoes, he was met by the last person he wanted to see. "What are you doing here?"

Kurt stepped forward and grabbed ahold of Blaine's hands. His instinct was to pull away but something about the expression on his ex's face stopped him. "What?"

"Last night there was a major accident on the highway. A big-rig blew a tire causing the truck to flip over. It smashed into several cars before landing on two. Blaine, Sam was in one of those cars…and, and Sebastian was in the other. They didn't make it. I'm so sorry."

No

No

"Blaine, please say something."

*SLAP*

"Liar!" he screamed, while at the same time trying to remember how to breathe. "You just want to hurt me because I hurt you."

Kurt removed his hand from his cheek and attempted to take Blaine's hands back in his but this time he wouldn't let him. "Blaine" he said as calmly as possible "No matter what happened between us as a couple, we are still best friends. I would never lie to you…"

"Sam is my best friend" Blaine corrected him, progressively getting louder and louder. "And you've always hated Sebastian. But guess what? Sebastian loves me…me! Not some version of me that only fits into his world when it's convenient."

Blaine stopped to study Kurt's body language. Something was off. Something...NO! "You knew! That's why you did everything in your power to keep us apart, like blocking his number on my phone. And it's why you immediately said his name when I told you what I had done. How could I be so blind?"

"Bla…"

"I have to know. When you moved to NYC, did you stop giving a fuck if Sebastian and I were together or did you believe I was so brainwashed you no longer had to put in the effort?"

"That's not…"

"I'm on my way to Dalton to apologize to Sebastian for not realizing the games you were playing sooner. For making him wait because I stupidly convinced myself you and I were soulmates. So get out of my way because I don't have time for any more of your shit!"

When Kurt didn't move, Blaine could no longer hold back his tears. "I tried to break it off with you after Nationals, giving us both a fresh start…you in NYC, me back at Dalton. But you LIED, insisting nothing would change. And just like I predicted, I wound up alone. Then, when it imploded, I was the only one to blame because of what I did."

"I know I was wrong to say the things I did but I was hurt."

Did he really just say that?

"I don't care you narcissistic asshole! If you hadn't made those promises, I'd be back at Dalton. Maybe Sebastian and I would be together, maybe not. I don't know. Although I am pretty fucking sure he and Sam wouldn't be dead!" Blaine began to shake uncontrollably. "No, they're not dead. You're lying you sick son-of-a-bitch! I hate you! Get out!"

Neither of the former couple noticed Kurt's father run into room, barely catching Blaine before he fell to the floor. Burt walked the broken boy to the sofa where he could comfort him while Pamela Anderson tried to get ahold of Blaine's doctor to prescribe a sedative.

"You're going to be ok, Kiddo. Not anytime soon but I promise, it will get better."

"Please, please" Blaine begged, sobbing into Burt's chest. "Tell me he's lying."

"Son, I'm sorry, but Kurt's telling you the truth. They're gone."
