So I loved the idea of a second proposal but I wanted to jazz it up a bit and make a few changes. So here's my version guys. Hope you enjoy it.
Nathan and Lucas were racing on the quad bikes. They stopped for a little break.
L:-"nice jump back there."
N:- "haha." He chuckled. "You too. I think we totally scared the crap out of some cows back there." Lucas chuckled.
L:- "well look. I think maybe we should be careful. I dunno given our family driving history, one of us is bound to end up in the hospital."
Nathan laughed. Then he reached into his pocket and pulled something out.
N:- "hey, check this out." He said passing Lucas a ring. Lucas took it and studied it.
L:- "a ring?" He Said questioningly. "Who are you proposing to this time?"
N:- "haha" Nathan said sarcastically. "Very funny." He deadpanned. "It's for Hayley. I want you to hold onto it for me."
L:- "why?"
N:- "because I'm going to ask her to marry me." He stated as if it was the most obvious thing in the world.
Lucas looked confused and scratched his head.
L:- "I'm sorry, but didn't you already do that?"
N:- "yeah, but I was thinking about Keith and your mum and how they never got a chance to stand in front of their family and friends and tell everybody how they feel, you know?" He explained.
L:- "yeah." Lucas said nodding his head.
N:- "and Hayley and I never did that either, so now that we're back together I want to do things the right way."
Just then they heard the roar of another quad bike and Mouth appeared around the corner and stopped beside them.
M:- "you know these things are awesome. I just scared the hell out of some cows." He stated. Proud of himself.
Nathan and Lucas laughed as he drove off.
N:- "so what do you think man? You gonna help a brother out?"
L:- "yeah." He said and they both headed back.
The next morning.
Brooke was stood in the kitchen holding a cup of coffee, when Lucas walked down.
L:- "hey, come on. I need to show you something." He said as he lead Brooke on to the porch.
B:- "what do you want to show me?" She asked. "It's freezing out here."
L:- "this." He said, pulling out the ring.
Brooke looked shocked but wore a smile.
B:- "are you proposing to me?" She looked at him questioningly. "Lucas, this is really Naley!" She exclaimed.
L:- "no, no, no, no." He quickly explained shaking his hands. "This is Hayley's ring."
Brooke looked slightly confused. Then it dawned on her
B:- "Nathan wants to re-propose? But they're already married?" She still questioned.
L:- "yeah I'm just holding on to it until he proposes again. Nathan wants to give Hayley a big fancy wedding in front of all our family and friends."
B:- "awwwwww. That is so romantic!" She squealed.
Just then Hayley walked out.
H:- "what is so romantic?" Just then she noticed the ring Lucas was holding. "Oh, oh. I'm so sorry I interrupted. Oh my gosh. You proposed to Brooke. You sly guy. You didn't mention anything to me. Oh let me see the ring." She gushed. "Sorry you can put it on her finger first and then I'll look. I'm just so happy for you." She looked expectantly at Lucas and Brooke.
Brooke and Lucas looked at each other and Brooke shrugged.
L:- "uh yeah, sorry. I was going to tell you."
Brooke tried to hold in her laugh as she held her hand out to Lucas who slipped the ring on to her finger. Hayley squealed and hugged them both before taking Brooke's hand to admire the ring.
H:- "it's so beautiful. I've never seen anything like it. Oh I'm so happy. I need to go tell Peyton."
B:- "oh no." Brooke said hastily. "I want to tell her myself. I just need a bit of time." She looked over to Lucas to back her up if needed.
H:- " no worries." She said. Then quickly added, "I can tell Nathan though, can't I?"
L:- "yeah, sure." He said sounding unsure. Not that Hayley noticed.
Hayley gave them both another hug before disappearing inside. Brooke and Lucas looked at each other wearing forced smiles.
L:- "I'm dead, aren't I?"
B:- "yup" she laughed.
Later on
Nathan and Lucas were sat in a boat in the middle of the river trying to fish.
N:- "so Brooke has the ring on?"
L:- "okay. So it was a bad idea." He said remorsefully.
N:- "why would you even show the ring to Brooke?" He asked exasperated.
L:- "I dunno. I was excited and you know how Brooke likes these kind of things." He tried to explain apologetically.
N:- "well the proposal's ruined now." He stated sadly.
L:- "well I mean you don't need a ring to propose. Just adjust your plan a little bit."
N:- "that's all Hayley and I ever do." He said sadly. Lucas looked away guiltily. "Ever since we got married nothing has gone the way we planned it. Something always gets in the way. Like music, or high flyers, or Chris, or Dan….." he finished off.
L:- "but, well that's just life. I mean it doesn't have to be perfect." Nathan looked slightly annoyed.
N:- "no! But this does. Why couldn't this one moment just work out the way I planned it? Just once you know for Hayley." He sighed deeply.
Lucas looked deep in thought. He hadn't missed how Nate had said for Hayley. He couldn't believe there was a time not too long ago where he questioned whether Nate was good enough for Hayley or not. He could see now how wrong he had been. There could be no one better for Haley other than Nate. Not even himself. Nate had become Hayley's best friend and confidante in a way he had never been able to. Nate's life revolved around making Hayley smile or making her happy. It seemed that was Nathan's life's mission. To give Hayley the world and make all her dreams and desires in to a reality. Even what Hayley could not think for, for herself, Nate would think of for her, just to see a smile on her face. There was nothing this man sat before him would not do for Hayley's happiness. He could see that clear as the sun rising in the morning. And that just increased his guilt for messing up. He put his fishing rod down and Nathan looked over at him confused.
L:- "well, you're right." He stated simply.
N:- "what are you doing?"
L:- "we're going to go get that ring back." He said as he picked up the para and began sailing back. "You're right Nate. You and Hayley deserve to have that perfect moment at least once in your life."
Nathan smiled appreciatively and chuckled a little.
Back at the cabin.
Brooke was wrapped up in a blanket and sat on an armchair when Lucas approached her.
B:- "so how bad was Nathan?" She asked sympathetically as Lucas sat beside her.
L:- "not thrilled. But, I told him I'll get the ring back and somehow tell Hayley it's not us getting engaged."
B:- "okay. Let's do it."
L:- "but how? Hayley is so happy for us. She's probably already started to plan things and she will kill me if she thinks I've led you on." He exclaimed, exasperated.
B:- "there are other ways." She said wearing a knowing smirk.
L:- "oh yeah? How?"
Some time later.
Haley and Brooke were sat in the hot tub, relaxing. Brooke took the ring off and placed it on the edge. She thought she would walk off and let Lucas come take it and pretend to have forgotten where she left it should Hayley ask. But just as she got up and was about to walk away Hayley called out.
H:- "hey Brooke. You forgot your ring."
Brooke forced a smile and picked up the ring.
B:- "thanks."
Some time later.
Hayley was washing the dishes and Brooke was drying. She had taken the ring off and left it on the countertop. She put away the last cup and started to walk away.
H:- "Brooke, your ring." She said placing it on her palm.
Brooke turned around exasperated and rolled her eyes. This was a lot harder than she thought.
Some time later.
Brooke had taken the ring off and left it on the table. She was sat next to Mouth who was reading and she started to nod off. Hayley saw the ring and picked it up. She went and slipped it on to Brooke's finger waking her. Mouth looked at them both, shook his head and went back to his magazine. Brooke grained inwardly.
Some time later.
L:- "non of our plans worked." He said despondently. "What are we going to do." He was getting desperate.
B:- "we could always fake a fight and break things off."
L:- "NO! I am not fake fighting with you."
B:- "oh come on. It'll be fun. And it will lead to great make up sex." She said wiggling her eyebrows. Lucas laughed.
L:- "okay." He answered reluctantly, before adding, "but we can only fight in front of Hayley okay. I will not have anyone else think we've broken up."
B:- "okay then."
After Dinner.
Hayley was clearing the table. She walked past Nathan and Lucas and smiled sensually at Nathan. He smiled back but as she walked away he became agitated.
N:- "I thought you were going to get the ring back?" He said through clenched teeth.
L:- "we were trying. Hayley's just too good at thwarting our plans. But we have another plan. Everyone is going to sit for games and a movie now. But us four will go out for a little walk. You ask Hayley first then me and Brooke will follow. Me and Brooke will fake fight and she'll return the ring to me and I will give it to you." He explained.
N:- "this better work." He said skeptical.
Everyone sat down to play I never. After a few turns Nathan walked out and motioned for Hayley to follow.
H:- "Nathan. Is everything okay?" She asked following him out onto the porch.
N:- "yeah. I just thought we could go for a walk." He smiled.
H:- "sure. Let's go."
L:- "hey guys, can we join you?" Lucas called as him and Brooke followed.
N:- "sure."
They grabbed their coats and headed out. Lucas and Brooke took the lead a few meters ahead. Nathan put his arm around Hayley and she snuggled close to him. He placed a gentle kiss on the top of her head.
N:- "how's your weekend been so far?"
H:- "it's been great. Oh has Lucas told you he proposed to Brooke? I walked in on the proposal this morning. He got her such a beautiful ring."
N:- "what?! No way! He hasn't mentioned anything to me." He said feigning shock.
H:- "oh I thought he would have mentioned it as you guys were together most of the day. They wanted to keep it hush hush but they were fine with me telling you."
N:- "hmmm. Maybe that's why he didn't say anything. He thought you would."
H:- "yeah. Maybe." She said shrugging.
Suddenly they heard Brooke shout.
B:- "Lucas Eugene Scott! How dare you!"
Nathan and Hayley exchanged looks before running towards them.
L:- "Brooke……"
B:- "No! You know what, forget it. And here!" She shouted taking off the ring and thrusting it in to his hand. "You can take this back!"
H:- "Brooke what's happened?" Hayley asked teaching them.
B:- "I don't want to talk about it." She said stomping off.
Hayley scoffed and looked between Nathan and Lucas.
H:- "Luke?"
L:- "leave it Hales." He gritted out. The discreetly slipping the ring in to Nathan's hand without Hayley noticing he too walked away, and left a bewildered Nathan and Hayley looking at each other.
H:- "we should go talk to them."
N:- "I think we should give them some space."
H:- "you're probably right."
N:- "would you like to stay out or head back?"
H:- "let's head back." She replied wrapping her arms around Nathan's torso as he placed his arm over her shoulders.
When they got back Brooke and Lucas were no where to be seen. They had both locked themselves unwilling to talk. Hayley sighed and decided to head to bed. Nathan followed her towards their room. As he was about to enter the room he saw Lucas sneaking in to Brooke's room. He chuckled quietly before straightening his features to not give himself away to Hayley.
The next morning Luke must have snuck out of Brooke's room because when Nathan and Hayley came down for breakfast he was lying on the sofa.
N:- "hey man, you okay?" He asked with a sly wink. Lucas kept a straight face.
L:- "I don't wanna talk about it."
N:- "okay. I'm here if you need me."
Hayley seemed worried. Brooke wasn't talking either. Brooke had taken her breakfast to her room and Lucas ate on the porch. Nathan and Hayley ate together and cleared up. Once the dishes were put away, Nathan took Hayley's hand and pulled her out. They walked for a few minutes and came to the dock that overlooked the river.
H:- "oh man. This is such a a beautiful view on the dock."
N:- "well you know docks are kind of special to us." He said thinking back to their first tutor session and the time when they skipped school. "Remember the time Dan busted us for drinking?" He smiled at the memory.
H:- "oh don't remind me." They both laughed. "Although, I have to say I did kinda enjoy throwing up on him." They both laughed again.
N:- "so I noticed you've been kinda down since last night. What's up?" He asked. Concern evident on his face.
H:- "I know." She sighed. "I just feel really bad about Brooke and Lucas. I mean they're my best friends and I was so happy that they were going to get their happy ending like me, but I don't know what could've happened to make her give the ring back." She said dejectedly. They both stood facing each other now and Nathan pulled out something from his pocket.
N:- "you mean this ring?" He asked smiling.
H:- "yeah but why have you got it?
Nathan started to get down on one knee. Hayley looked at him surprised, but elated as a smile formed across her mouth.
N:- "Hayley…"
H:- "what are you doing?" She sounded breathless and unsure.
N:- "over the past year I've learned so much about life and love and even if I could I wouldn't take back all the bad stuff that happened between us."
Hayley scoffed a little at the last part.
N:- "Because it bought us here, in this moment, and this river and made us stronger and in more love than ever."
He took Hayley's hand into his own and removing her old wedding band placed the new ring on her finger.
N:- "marry me Hayley." He said with a soft smile. "Marry me again, in front of all our friends and family."
H:- "always" she said pulling him up. "Always and forever."
She wrapped her arms around his neck and they shared a tender and heartfelt kiss that expressed all their emotions to one another. At that moment rose petals began to rain down on them. Hayley's eyes fluttered open as she pulled away from the kiss to see all their friends, Lucas, Brooke, Peyton, Mouth and Skillz throwing rose petals and shouting congratulations. She started to laugh then turned to Nathan to unzip his hoodie. She took the chain from around his neck slipped his wedding band off and placed it on to his finger where it belonged. Where it had always belonged. Their friends gathered around them hugging and congratulating. Brooke and Peyton were admiring Hayley's ring.
B:- "it's so beautiful." She gushed.
H:- "so Lucas never proposed to you?"
B:- "nope. That's too Nayley for us." She laughed. Hayley rolled her eyes.
P:- "I wonder why he got you a red and blue diamond ring though. It's unique to say the least." She wondered.
H:- "I'm not really sure." She replied dreamily.
B:- "hey Nate." She shouted over to Nathan. He looked over.
N:- "yeah?" He asked.
B:- "is there a reason for the coloured diamonds in Hayley's ring?"
Nate walked over, placed his arm around Hayley and took her hand in his.
N:- "yeah there is actually." He looked down at the ring turning slightly red. "The blue diamond is known for being captivating and mysterious. That's how I felt and how I feel every time I look at Hayley. Captivated and mystified. A chance occurrence deep in earths core forms the blue diamond. Just like a chance occurrence that Hayley took on me when I gave her no reason to and is falling so deeply in love with each other. And the heart diamond which is red with the other red diamonds are first because Hayley has my heart and second because the red diamond is the rarest diamond in the world. Just like it is so rare to find a love as true and deep as ours. Especially at our age. There are less than 30 true red diamonds known to exist in the whole world and now my beautiful wife who is also my wife to be again owns 20 of them. There is only one Hayley in this whole world and I'm glad I'm the one who gets to keep her." Nathan finished off seemingly lost in thought.
Hayley had tears streaming down her face which seemed to break Nathan's trance. He hugged her closer kissing the side of her head.
N:- "look at the inscription on the inside of the ring Hales." She took the ring off to look.
H:- " Always and Forever." She read aloud.
All their friends were looking at them in awe, each hoping that one day they would find a love so powerful and true for themselves.
Later that night.
Nathan and Hayley were lying in bed cuddling. Hayley was admiring her ring.
N:- "did I do okay?" He asked so softly, Hayley almost missed it. She knew he was asking if she liked the ring.
H:- "you did more than okay baby. You did perfect and I love the ring and I love how much thought you put into it and I love you! But you know I loved my simple wedding band too. I don't need you to spend money on me to make me love you because I love YOU Nathan Scott." She explained putting emphasis on the 'you'. I love your heart and your goodness and that is enough for me." She was looking at him adoringly.
N:- "I know Hales. I love you too but, I also love spoiling you and that is something you will have to get used too." He said wearing his signature smirk. Oh how she loved that smirk. "Plus, I kept your old wedding band on my chain, so I can keep a part of you with me always and forever, wherever I may go." He said showing her the wedding band on the chain around his neck.
God she loved this man.
H:- "how did I get so lucky?"
N:- "I'm not sure." He teased, chuckling. Hayley swatted his chest lovingly and laughed. "I'm the lucky one Hales." He said turning slightly serious.
H:- "I love you Nathan Royal Scott. With everything I am."
N:- "I love you too Haley Bob James Scott. With everything I am."
And they sealed their love with a kiss.
The End.
Nayley Scott 23
For some reason I am unable to post a picture of the ring.
