Prompt 30: Sunset

Sunset Bar

Nervously tapping her foot on the floor, Korra looked at her phone for the nth time. She then looked ahead at the building in front of her before repeating her actions. She looked at her phone and then the build and repeat. This repeated for an extended amount of time before she finally sighed in defeat.

She had to admit it to herself.

She was here of all places.

Having an exponential crisis at the age of twenty-five wasn't something she was planning to have. She just… realized that she was missed, no, that she craved for the intimacy you had in a relationship. However, the only problem was… none of the guys around her were cutting it. They were handsome and great and all but… she didn't feel a spark.

At first, she thought something was wrong with her. Maybe she grew tired of dating and that her desire for intimacy was just a false alarm. Turns out… some woman made her heart skip a beat. She thought that was just a coincidence but after a few too many, she came to a realization.

Maybe she was more attracted to women?

There was no way that was the case! Right? She had been dating guys since she was young after all but now… most of them were starting to piss her off more than being good company. That's when… she started googling things. She began questioning her sexuality and took quiz after quiz after quiz. All of which pointed her in a direction she had never been in or thought about. This quarter-life crisis continued for a few weeks until finally, Korra had enough. She decided to put a test to it and so here she was.

The building that she was standing in front of.

It was a gay bar.

A gay bar called Sunset.

Holding her chest, Korra took in a deep breath before breathing out. She repeated that a few times before sucking it up and taking a step forward. She resolved herself. Besides… there was nothing to lose. If all went 'bad' it would just be a learning experience or something akin. Hopefully… it would just be a fun memory if anything. Alas, she was finally in front of the door. She took in a quick breath before pushing it open and to her surprise, the atmosphere was more… chill than she had thought.

"Welcome to Sunset." Some staff member said while greeting her.

Korra twitched before giving her an awkward smile. "Thanks."

They smiled at her before turning away and wiping down a table. Korra took that as her cue to carry on. She turned around to glance at the room, noting the decent amount of people, before quickly shrugging it off and heading to the bar. If she was gonna be a fish out of the water, she needed a drink. Mindless taking a seat at the bar, Korra had a tense face as she smiled when she made eye contact with the bartender.

"Well here's a new face, what can I get ya?"

"Hey… uh… can I just get a whiskey on rocks?"

"Sure." As she prepped the glass with a sphere of ice, she tossed the bottle of whiskey back and forth in her hands before pouring her a drink. "Your first time coming to a gay bar?"

Having been caught red-handed, Korra winced slightly. "That obvious?"

She slid the glass forward before pinching her fingers together with a wink. "A little."

Korra let out a dry laugh before taking a sip of her drink. "Great."

"Hey, don't worry about it. Just relax and have fun. You don't have to force yourself to do anything if you don't want to. Most people here are friendly."

"Yeah?"

"Yeah, I'll keep an eye on you if you'd like. Just make eye contact with me and wink if you need saving."

That gave Korra a wave of relief. "That would actually… be nice. Thank you."

She winked at her again. "Of course, the name's Kuvira by the way."

"Korra."

Kuvira gave her a handsome smile before sliding forward a plate of snacks. "On the house."

"Oh— thanks!"

"Enjoy." She then waved her off when someone asked for a drink, leaving Korra to herself.

"Huh…" She then took a peek behind her. "This place isn't as…" she recalled the images she has seen here and there with everyone turning it up in flamboyant outfits. "Gay as I thought."

She then tossed a peanut into her mouth. "That's some good nut."

xXx

"You mind if I sit here?" A woman asked, getting Korra to turn around.

Korra's eyes immediately widened when she saw the face of that nice and sultry voice. "Uh… go for it."

"Thanks." She gave her a flirtatious smile which made Korra blush and turn away. She then waved down Kuvira and shortly after, she got a drink.

The two of them drank their drinks in silence until she broke the ice.

"You mind if I buy you a drink?"

"Pardon?" Korra turned to face her in disbelief. There was no way someone of her stature was flirting with her. Right?

She let out a light chuckle, which was music to Korra's ears, before leaning on the counter and asking again. "You mind if I buy you a drink?" She then eyed her drink, "Not that I don't respect drinks on rocks but Kuvira here makes some hell of a cocktail."

"Uhh… sure, why not?"

The smile on her unbelievably beautiful face made Korra's heart skip a beat. She then faced Kuvira before flagging her down. "Kuvy, two of my regulars please?"

Kuvira turned to make eye contact with her before raising an eyebrow at her untouched drink. In return, she shook her head before downing the whole glass. "Pretty please"

Letting out a playful scoff, Kuvira when to prep her drinks. "On it."

"Now then…" the woman faced Korra again with a playful face. "This your first time to a place like this?"

Korra immediately winced at that. "Geez, is it that obvious?"

She blinked before laughing out loud. "Sorry I didn't mean any harm. It's just I've been watching you since you came in and you give off this… beginner's aura."

That comment made Korra blush. She's been watching me since I came in?! She cleared her throat before rubbing her cheek. "Well… y-yeah… it is my first time. I just um… had this realization that um… well…"

The woman shifted in her seat. "That men might not be it?"

"Yeah." Korra's eyes widened when she realized what she said. "Wait— no, that's not what I meant! I mean— well, yes but no but like… urghhh." She groaned before dragging her hand down her face, "I don't know. I've dated guys before and it was nice at the time and all but recently… they've been… boring?"

"Hmm…"

Kuvira finally finished her cocktails and set them down in front of them. "There you go."

"Thanks." The woman grabbed the drinks before sliding one in front of Korra. "Oh, my name is Asami by the way."

Asami. Korra repeated in her mind as she couldn't take her eyes off Asami's. She accepted the drink before giving her a small smile. "Korra."

Korra finally took a sip of the cocktail Asami gave her. "Oh shit, damn that's good."

"Right? It's one of my specials."

"Specials?"

Asami threw her a wink. "An off-the-menu item."

"Ah."

"So, how's your night been so far?"

Korra picked at her fingers before deciding to playfully poke back. After all… she was at a gay bar so why wouldn't she play around? Besides, Asami was the one who came to her so why would she be afraid of getting rejected?

"Better now that you're here."

That comment made Asami blink before laughing back. "Yeah?" Her flirtatious smile only grew as she leaned in closer to Korra.

Korra gulped as she glanced down at Asami's neck. She finally took in the details of her somewhat relieving but most teasing outfit. Her cleavage was tastefully exposed and the way she carried herself was most definitely sexy. She could only respond back in a sheepish voice.

"Yeah…"

Taking that as permission, Asami scooched closer, and shortly after, they were seated side by side with little to no room in between them. "You know…" she started while leaning in toward Korra's ear, "There is a surefire way of discovering if you're into women or not."

The warmth of her breath sent shivers down her spine. "W-Which is…?"

She could hear Asmai's giggle before she grabbed onto her hand. "Come with me?"

Korra bit back her nerves as she made eye contact with Kuvira who was watching her carefully. She knew why… this was her last chance to back out. If she were to throw her a wink, Kuvira would help her out. If not… then she'd be learning what Asami meant by this so-called 'surefire way of discovering if you're into women' which, frankly being honest, didn't sound so bad to Korra. So… being the soberest she could be at a bar, Korra gave her a reassuring smile to signal that she was alright with this. Kuvira simply nodded before turning away.

"Sure."

Asami smiled before getting up from her seat. She turned to face Kuvira before asking, "You mind if I borrow a room?"

Kuvira waved her off. "Go for it."

"Thanks," she then carefully pulled Korra out of her chair and led her toward the back where a stairway was located.

As they held onto each other's hands, for some reason, Korra didn't mind. In fact, she was warm on her cheeks, ignoring the alcohol she had consumed, and she felt giddy in a good way. She was actually looking forward to what Asami was going to show or do to her as a matter of fact. Once they were at the top of the flight of stairs, Korra first noticed that there were few doors but, to her surprise, Asami led them to a somewhat secret room. Once they were inside, she turned to face before stating:

"Just for reference… if you want to stop at any time at all, say the word and I'll stop okay?"

Korra just stared into her light green eyes before she realized that Asami was waiting for a response. She stood upright before answering. "Okay, understood."

Asami gave her a friendly smile in response. "Good, now then…" she lightly pulled Korra inside before pushing her against the wall.

That made Korra jump before Asami closed in on her. She slowly leaned in at a painfully slow rate while blatantly checking Korra out.

"Now…" Asami whispered with a heavy breath while keeping eye contact. Her hand promptly found the wall behind Korra's back and she slowly leaned in. "How are you feeling?"

Korra gulped as her back went flush against the wall. Her eyes focused on Asami's lips and her heart was being to race like crazy. "N-Nervous…"

Asami inched in closer before hovering just an inch away from her lips. She carefully watched Korra's reaction as she breathed out some purposely heavy breaths. "In what way?"

Her lips thinned out and Korra swallowed hard. "I-In… uh… a…a good… way?"

With her lips curling into a devilish smile, Asami chuckled. "Yeah?"

Their close intimacy was making Korra feel a lot of things. "Yeah."

"In that case… can I kiss you?"

Asami's eyes were piercing into her soul and Korra's breath hitched. She let out some labored breaths before she practically whimpered out.

"Y-Yes."

Smiling sweetly, Asami closed the gap. It was a soft and chaste peck. That made Korra's heart flutter and the next time Asami kissed her, she lingered. Ah. Her lips were ridiculously soft. Korra finally kissed Asami back and when she did, Asami released her lips with a soft pop before shifting in closer to her body. She pressed Korra more firmly against the wall before repeatedly switching their kissing angle. At some point, Korra let out a wink moan before helplessly reaching up to grab Asami's shirt. She was rewarded with Asami playfully biting her lip.

An accidental swear left Korra's lips. "Fuck…"

"Mmh?" Asami pressed her lips against Korra's skin before peppering gentle kisses down her neck.

Korra felt like she was drunk. "You're such a good kisser."

That gets Asami to laugh and her breath tickled her neck. "Why thank you." She kissed Korra's neck a few times before softly nipping her skin. They both sighed in bliss before Asami leaned back up to face Korra. "How do you feel?"

She felt like she was high. "G-Good… like really good."

Asami smiled warmly before resting her forehead against Korra's. She then caressed Korra's cheek with the back of her hand before asking: "What do you want to do now?"

Korra swallowed again before hesitantly resting her hands on Asami's waist. She felt somewhat embarrassed but also comfortable before answering. "K-Kiss you more…"

There was this smug look on Asami's face as she leaned back in to kiss her lips. "And?"

"And… g-get to know you more."

Asami kissed her again but this time, she slipped in her tongue and swirled it against Korra's before sucking hers playfully. "I think I can manage…"

Korra moaned into Asami's lips. Her head was foggy and something about Asami's voice and light green eyes drowned her in warmth. She lost track of time so she wasn't sure how long she was at the Sunset Bar but, she did know that she enjoyed Asami's company. Something about this woman made her feel sure of herself. Ignoring the circumstances of how they met, Korra felt this connection with her.

Maybe… maybe Asami was the one she had been searching for all this time.
