Rachel knew what she was doing. She felt something between Jane and Maura that she was sure they felt too. They just didn't know it yet. Rachel, being the amazing Nurse that she is, decided that going above and beyond for the care of Dr. Maura Isles was just what they both needed.
...
Jane rushed out into the waiting room as quickly as she could. When she arrived, she saw Frankie sitting in a chair next to his mother who was sleeping on his shoulder. She smiled to herself at the sight. She truly loved her mother and her brother, even though she didn't tell them every day. They were the best people she knew. She made a mental note to tell them once this was all over.
Frankie heard the crutches and his head snapped around as it was the first noise he'd heard, besides whatever talk show was playing on the waiting room television, in hours.
"Janie!" he yelled, accidentally waking his mother in the process.
Angela's head rose and she looked around, still in a daze.
Frankie hopped up to meet her, their mother in tow behind him. They both wrapped their arms around her so tightly. She thought her mother's hug from yesterday was a lot.
"Can't. Breathe. Gonna. Die." she managed.
Frankie broke away first leaving his mother a few more seconds.
"Sorry Janie, just glad to see you. How are you feeling?"
"I'm doing ok. The leg's a little sore but it's nothing I can't handle."
"How's Maura?" Angela asked with a sense of motherly worry.
"She just woke up. I accidentally fell asleep in her room and the Nurse woke us up."
"You had me worried sick," Angela cried as she swatted Jane's arm.
"Ow, Ma!"
"I had no idea what was going on until that sweet southern girl came and told me!"
"Southern girl?" Frankie asked, raising an intrigued eyebrow.
"She's too young for you, Frankie! Don't even think about it," she said as she now swatted his arm!
"Hey! Ok, ok!" he laughed.
"I'm sorry, Ma. I was just so exhausted. I pulled a chair up next to Maura's bed and I just...fell asleep. I didn't mean to leave you hanging."
Jane meant what she said. She felt bad that her mother waited there all night for her but she was thankful that Rachel had kept her mother updated. She would have to remember to repay her generosity.
"I know, Janie. I just worry, that's all."
"I know, Ma. Maura seems ok but she was struggling to remember what happened last night. She said things are coming back to her in pieces. The Doctor said she most definitely has a concussion but we have to wait and see how bad it is since she just woke up. The Nurse is in with her now so hopefully we will know more soon. Ma, can you get me that bag you packed for her? That should help cheer her up!"
Without hesitation, Angela ran back to grab the bag as well as a new bag she packed for Jane.
"I'll help you carry these back, Janie. There's no way you can carry both of these bags on those things. How long do you have to use them, anyway?"
"They said just while I'm here. Don't want to put any pressure on my leg and risk popping a stitch. Frankie, fill me in on the case. Any leads yet?"
Frankie hesitated.
"Not yet. I interviewed everyone who was there, except for you and Maura, so if there's anything that either of you can remember, you gotta let me know, ok?"
Jane nodded dher head in response.
"Frost and Korsak spent the better part of the night looking for the truck. All we got is a description. No plates. The ass..." he stopped himself and looked over at his mother. "The scumbag took them off. That makes us think this was deliberate."
"Why would anyone want to hurt Maura, Frankie?"
"I don't know but we don't have much to go on. CSRU is analyzing some pieces of the truck that we found and they also have the tire tracks. We're hoping that gives us something."
"Don't forget to check for any security footage in the area and keep looking for the murder weapon that killed our John Doe. I know you don't have any leads yet but maybe it's the key."
"You thinking these two incidents are connected?"
"I don't know. Just a gut feeling, you know?"
"Yeah...ok. I'll update Frost and Korsak and get some officers on it. They send their love by the way. They wanted to come but..."
"They have got a job to do," she said with a small smile.
He leaned in and gave Jane a kiss on the cheek.
"Give Maura my love."
"I will, Frankie, thanks."
"I love you, Frankie!" Angela called out to him as he ran towards the exit.
"I love you too, Ma!"
