"Ok, Dr. Maura. Honestly, just knowing that you feel better is enough for me!"

"I do, thank you!"

Rachel set the rice pudding on the tray by Maura's bed and turned to leave. Just before she reached the door, she turned around.

"Actually Dr. Isl...Maura. There is one thing you could do for me!"

...

5:30 pm couldn't come soon enough. It was Friday now and the bullpen was abuzz with chatter of everyone's plans for the weekend. Jane was just excited that she finally was allowed to get Maura out of that horrible hospital. She gathered her things, said her goodbyes to Frost, Korsak and Frankie and made her way downstairs. She spotted Angela leaving the Cafe and was forced to stop and talk to her.

"Come on, Ma...I gotta pick Maura up! I don't want to keep her waiting. She's been there long enough!"

"Boy, you act like you haven't seen Maura in days! You'd swear you two were married!"

Jane averted her eyes and bit her cheek, not knowing how to respond.

Just then, something clicked for Angela. She genuinely meant her comment to be a joke but judging by her daughter's reaction, it hit close to home.

"You really love her, don't you, Janie?"

Jane's eyes now found her mother's. She felt a lump form in her throat. She swallowed it away as it threatened to fill her eyes with tears.

Jane didn't respond, she simply nodded.

Angela pulled her into a tight hug.

"You know I love you no matter who you love," Angela whispered into her hair. Her voice was warm but shaky.

"I know, Ma," Jane whispered, wiping a stray tear away.

Angela pulled back and looked at her daughter with so much love. She gave Jane a big kiss on the forehead and sent her on her way.

...

Maura was already packed, changed and ready to go by the time Jane arrived.

"Aren't we looking chipper today?" Jane asked, leaning against the doorframe watching Maura gather some last minute things.

"Less talking, more leaving," Maura said as she shuffled her way over to Jane grabbing her arm. Luckily, Jane's leg had gotten a lot stronger and she was no longer limping. She grabbed Maura's bag and guided her out to the Nurse's station to check her out.

They said their goodbyes to the hospital staff and waited until they saw Nurse Rachel.

"Well, this is where we bid you farewell," Jane said as she pulled a card out from behind her back and handed it to Rachel.

"Now I told y'all, I didn't expect nothing," Rachel said as she began to lift the flap on the envelope.

Jane dropped Maura's arm and grabbed Rachel's hand.

"Open it later."

Rachel and Jane shared a look and Rachel simply nodded, placing the card on the receptionist desk to retrieve after they left.

"Ahhh, come on," Jane said, as she opened her arms wide for a hug.

Rachel hugged her back and glanced at Maura who was smiling at her.

Rachel made her way to Maura next. They shared a longer hug and Jane heard Rachel whisper something to Maura but she couldn't make out what she said. Whatever it was, it made Maura blush and it made Jane confused.

They headed off to the parking garage where Jane's police cruiser was waiting for them.

She opened the door for Maura and helped her get safely inside before closing the door and placing Maura's bag in the trunk.

"Excited to get home?"

"You have no idea," Maura said with a smirk.

Jane eyed her suspiciously.

"O...k then, let's get out of here!"

The ride to Maura's was relatively silent. Maura kept stealing glances at Jane, who was nervously biting her cheek.

"So...what did Rachel say to you back there?" Jane asked, never pulling her eyes from the road.

"What do you mean?"

"When we left...she whispered something to you. I was just wondering what she said."

"Oh, it was nothing," Maura said, turning towards the window to hide the hives that began creeping up her neck.
