Saphira opened her eyes slowly as she finally woke up. Her eyes felt heavy, yet she felt as though she slept for days. She felt she was on something soft and surrounded by warm blankets, there was no mask on her face now and she saw she was still in the med bay. She did not know what time it was, no one was in the med bay and she was a little upset by that. She sat up, looking around before she simply laid back and rolled onto her side. The events of the previous day was already filling her mind, and filling her eyes with tears.

Was my father always mad I wasn't a match to save my mother? She died of cancer! A new organ wouldn't have saved her…would it?

Saphira sniffled and covered her head with the blanket, sobbing softly as she didn't want to draw too much attention to herself. She pulled her legs up to her chest, hugging them to herself as she cried. She thought about her mother, all the times they had together.

Was I born just to save my mother?

She didn't know anymore, she didn't know if most of what she knew in her life was a lie. At least with the autobots, it actually feels like it was real and true. She hoped for that anyway. But her past…she wasn't entirely sure. Yet, her mother made her feel so special and loved before she died, Saphira didn't want to believe there was any other intentions from both her parents. Plus, her father still made her feel special after her mother died for a short time…so she was not sure anymore.

"Saphira?" She jumped when she heard Ratchet's voice, she clenched her eyes shut, refusing to move the blanket off her. Ratchet walked closer, looking at the gurney with sad optics. He could hear her crying underneath. "Come now, Saphira. You can tell me what is on your mind, I will listen to you and be there for you. I am sure you want a hug as well."

Saphira did not respond straight away, she really just wanted to be left alone. However, she gasped as the blankets were carefully pulled back and she rolled over to see Ratchet looking at her with a kind, sad expression. She sniffled and looked away from him. "I'm…I'm…I don't know what to believe anymore, Ratchet."

He extended his hand to her and she hesitated to climb in, which was a sad surprise to Ratchet. "Saphira, what that man said to you is likely very untrue."

"Perhaps." She sniffled again, not looking at Ratchet. "But…it does happen…when a child is made only to serve as parts for a sibling or a parent. I'm…I'm not even sure what to believe anymore."

Ratchet was shocked to hear Saphira talk about humans in that way, but he had no reason to doubt it since what Saphira said seemed to be true. "Saphira, you told us your mother treated you with a huge amount of love. You had adventures together, you had special moments together. Why do you believe that to be a lie?"

"I don't know." Saphira let out another sob, covering her face with her hands. "Maybe…she did love me, and wanted me to have my best life before she died…I do remember going to the hospital with my father. I now know it was to see if I was a match to my mother…but I was not. That could be part of the reason she died, but I do not know."

The medic listened to her before he gently picked her up from the bed, making her jump in surprise as he lifted her from the bed and pulled her in for a hug, holding her against his shoulder pad gently and rubbing her back. "Saphira…you are letting his words get to you. Don't let them get to you." Saphira trembled as she laid against his shoulder, staining it with tears. "I know what he said may have been a shock, I imagine he only said it to destabilize you and to take you down easier. Words can hurt a lot easier than a weapon can at times, and you must remember that." He heard Prime's footsteps approaching the med bay and sighed softly. "Listen, Saphira, we are here for you, and you know it. I hope you don't ever question our promise to you to keep you safe."

"I don't…I think when I left that house…lies stopped…" Saphira shrugged a little and shakes her head. "Maybe that is what I feel. But…I don't know." She turned her head and saw Optimus approaching with a gentle smile. She was happy to see him. "Can I ask how long I was asleep for?"

"Surprisingly, you slept a whole day," Ratchet responded, getting a surprised look for Saphira. "I suspect the events from yesterday really strained your system, your body was extremely exhausted when you fell asleep. Thankfully you didn't need the oxygen mask the entire time."

She was certainly surprised she had slept an entire day. "I guess I must have been really overwhelmed…or whatever the gas you used on me as well." She smirked at him as the medic widened his optics. "I'm not a fool, Ratchet. I do appreciate what you did though, after all it was better for me to relaxed regardless."

He let out a short laugh, impressed that Saphira worked it out. "I am glad you are not mad about it, Saphira. At least I didn't need to use it to perform surgery on you. I am not looking forward to that if I ever had to do it."

Saphira looked at Optimus with a smile. "I guess you were able to watch over me a little bit, right?" She asked in a teasing tone.

Optimus smirked slightly at her. "In a sense, yes I was. I am pleased to see you awake and well rested. You must be feeling quite hungry and thirsty."

She nodded before squeezing her thighs together. "And a real need to use the bathroom. Can one of you run there and drop me off? I'm going to pee on myself otherwise."

Ratchet frowned in disgust before suddenly moving her to Optimus, Prime was shocked too as he held her in his grasp. "Don't you dare ever say that again while I'm holding you! The last thing I need is my hand to rust from that. Ugh!"

Saphira giggled softly and tensed suddenly, glancing up at Optimus's face as she sat in his palm. "Are you feeling the same? I really, really need to go. I'll worry about food and water afterwards."

Optimus shakes his head, turning to walk briskly out of the med way, he did not feel the need to run at the moment, unless Saphira really needed him to. "It would be a simple matter of cleaning the mess if that was to happen. Ratchet just has a dislike for human waste fluid."

"I can't say I blame him though. I probably made a bad impression when I was vomiting before…but at least it is easy to clean up." She glanced around the lobby when Optimus entered it, she noticed the other three bots were gone. "Hey, where are the others?"

"They have gone to pick up the children," Optimus responded calmly. "It is only the morning of a Saturday. They should arrive very soon." He glanced at her as Saphira wiggled a little as she held on. It was strange to him to see a human struggle to prevent themselves from going to the bathroom, he did not have that need like humans did. "You humans are strange sometimes."

She smiled at Optimus. "Just be glad you don't need to use the bathroom, Optimus. It probably is the worst thing to really think about a human. But I appreciate you making sure I don't embarrass myself."

Optimus entered her room and lowered her to the floor by the bathroom door. "I suppose it is." He watched her run into the bathroom and moved to sit, leaning against the wall as he waited for her. "I suppose you have already spoken to Ratchet a little bit about yesterday."

Saphira sighed in relief as she sat on the toilet, she could hear Optimus luckily and she guessed she could keep talking to him. "Yeah…I…I am upset about it, Optimus. I just don't know if I should believe him or not."

"From my point of view, what he said to you was in a moment of anger, not actual truth," Optimus said gently. "I know it hurts to be told it is your fault for something that was out of your control. Believe me, Saphira, I once felt it was my fault for the loss of Cybertron." Saphira listened to him, surprised to hear him say that. "I used to believe I was not strong enough to save it, when in hindsight, it was Megatron who destroyed it. Not me."

"Well…losing an entire world to war isn't the same, Optimus," Saphira said in a sad tone. "Not the same as losing someone to a sickness that has no cure."

"Maybe, but do you think that any organ in your body would have saved your mother's life? If she was already very sick, and the illness had spread through her body, a new organ would not have saved her." Optimus knew of the many plagues that had taken lives on Cybertron, he was well aware of how those who are sick perish and cannot be saved. "We Cybertronians also have gone through illnesses. There were many that have wiped out lives, some viruses were crafted by decepticons as biological weapons. It was not unusual to stand by, feel helpless and watch your friends perish with no cure. You are not the only one who has gone through loss, Saphira. And you are not the one who is at fault for your mother's death. Ronan is a coward, he proved it yesterday."

Saphira finished using the toilet and flushed it before washing her hands as she listened to Optimus. "I…I had no idea you could get sick." The very idea of the bots getting sick actually frightened Saphira, she would hate for that to happen. "I hope that by being on Earth you will not fall victim to any illnesses."

"It is less likely since we are on Earth. I can hear you are already worried about something that may never happen. I would advice you not to worry about it." Optimus turned his head, looking at the door as Saphira walked out of it and he smiled at her. "Especially since there are more pressing concerns than the viruses trapped on Cybertron."

Saphira rubbed her arms as she listened to him before she ran over to him to climb onto his leg where he sat. "I guess you are right, Optimus. Ronan used to be kind to me, and my memories do not match up with what he says. Still…" She sighed as she sat on his thigh, her expression changing to sadness. "A part of me still wonders if what he says is true…in someway."

"You may feel that way, Saphira…" Optimus gently lifts her from his knee with his hand, pulling her closer to him. "But it is not true. I will not believe it, and neither should you." She still didn't know if she should believe that, but Saphira was surprised by a gentle kiss to her cheek, making her blush. "I am lived for many years, Saphira. I believe you should trust my word over someone who has lived a shorter life than I have."

Saphira found herself giggling at Optimus, turning her head towards him and kissing his lips gently. "If I have to believe that, then I am dating some old guy. How gross is that?" She laughed when Optimus widened his optics slightly in worry. She kissed him again, feeling his lips kiss her back and Saphira ran her fingers along his cheeks, she heard a gentle rumble from within his body. "I am just kidding, Prime. Besides, I don't think I would have it any other way." Saphira smiled at him, her fingers kept rubbing his cheeks gently and began to circle them. "Yet…I am still not resolved in my own feelings. I guess with everything that has been happening, my emotions just feel…confused."

Optimus kissed her cheek gently, lifting his hand and ran a finger through his hair, making her shudder at his gentle gesture. "It is reasonable for you to feel that way, Saphira. Take your time before making any fast and solid decisions."

Saphira looked at him silently before kissing him again. "I know." She still was not a hundred percent sure on her feelings for Optimus, but she knew she couldn't stop thinking about him. He drove her crazy, and she loved him for it. "Yet…I am sure there is one decision I won't regret." She kissed him again and ran her finger along his lips, he shuddered at the feeling.

"If you keep doing that, I'll have to call Ratchet," Optimus warned playfully.

She rolled her eyes at him. "Oh sure, I doubt the medic can do anything about this anymore."

"That will be true. Ratchet has relented a little bit regarding our relationship." She raised an eyebrow curiously at him as she did not believe him. "Ratchet will no longer interfere, but he still does not approve. It may never change, that is who he is. But, at least he will not stop us from getting closer."

She smiled at the thought of that. "That means I could stay with you in your berth room without being caught?" He nodded and she pumped her fists excitedly. "Awesome! I would like that very much. Maybe tonight?"

"If that is what you wish, we can do that. For now…" Optimus paused as he glanced at Saphira's stomach. She realized her stomach had growled and he was able to hear it. "Do human stomachs always make that noise when you are hungry?"

"I am surprised you can even hear that." Saphira looked away from him with an embarrassed expression. "I'll get onto it right away. Just put me down please." He lowered her to the ground and she jumped off his hand. "At least you'll know whenever I am hungry."

"So it would seem." Optimus did not move from his spot as he watched Saphira walk over to the fridge. "I myself am intrigued on how humans prepare their food. I know I'll never be able to eat it, and yet it still intrigues me."

Saphira looked at the fridge contents as she held the door open, thinking on what to eat. She looked at the chicken and decided she would cut the meat off the frame to put into a container to make it easier to take out. "Trust me, what I have now isn't much to create something special. I can definitely let you watch when I make something special. Right now, I can only make sandwiches…that is not really exciting."

Optimus didn't think it was that boring, though he knew humans had more knowledge of it than him. "We were going to make food for you, but were advised by both Miko and Jack that it would not be a good idea for us to do."

"They would be right." Saphira placed the chicken onto a cutting board before grabbing out a container large enough to put the meat inside. "The last thing you would want to do is to accidently make me sick. I did tell you about the food poisoning I got."

He nodded as he pondered on that for a moment. "Was the poisoning due to your stepmother by answer chance?" Saphira froze for a moment before she began removing the chicken meat from the chicken frame. "I am right it would seem."

Saphira shrugged a little. "Yeah…I think it was. She didn't really hide her fake concern when I got sick from the chicken she prepared for me. And no one else got sick…so…I put two and two together. I ended up in hospital for a week because of it."

"That does not sound good."

"Believe me, it did not feel good. Probably the worst thing I ever went through since my appendix got inflamed and needed to be removed." Saphira shuddered at the memory. "Thank Primus that I don't have to worry about that."

Optimus did not follow, though he would find more about that a bit later. He watched her pull the meat of the chicken into the container, he saw she was not eating it yet. "As you don't have to worry about the words you were told by Ronan. You are too concerned about what was, Saphira. The past is history, we learn from it."

"I suppose…I guess when someone uses the past as a means of a weapon…" Saphira repeated Ronan's words in her head and shakes her head. "It still hurt, Prime. I am not going to deny that. And now…I'm more paranoid about going to school and going to work because of it."

Optimus knew that she would be more worried about what could happen. But, he himself would ensure she would live. "I promise that Ronan will not take your life, Saphira. Even if it means I have to take his."

Saphira looked at Optimus in surprise. "Huh? But…uh…y-y-you always go on about protecting humans. Why would you suddenly change your mind about harming them to protect me?"

"Because I love you, Saphira," Optimus said in a strong, yet gentle tone. She stared at him with wide eyes. "And while it may seem out of character for me to want to harm humans, for you I will do it just so you are safe."

She couldn't believe what she was hearing. And for the first time, it made Saphira somewhat afraid of Optimus. He could easily kill a human if he wanted to. "That goes against your belief, Optimus."

"Perhaps…but I have learned sometimes compromises must be made to protect those who I love. That includes you, Saphira." He smiled at her, he knew what he was saying may have shocked her, but it was true to his spark he would do anything to keep her safe. "I would recommend that you do not tell the others, Saphira. At this time, only Ratchet knows of our relationship. I am unsure how to tell the others about us yet."

"Right…but…if you happen to reveal yourself to Ronan to save me…you'll have to explain everything," Saphira said to him nervously. "I am not even sure that will be necessary."

"We will not know at this time, Saphira. But do not fear, I will not expose us to the world. I am not reckless." Optimus glanced at the chicken she had her hands on and gave at a curious smile. "Are you going to finish what you're doing?"

She glanced at the chicken for a moment and smiled at him. "Of course I am. It is just that I am surprised by what you are saying, Optimus. It actually frightens me a little bit…if I am honest." His optics widen at her words. "Mostly because if you decide to kill a human for my sake. What will stop you from killing another human for another reason?"

"Saphira, it would only come to that if the humans poses a real threat to exposing us or attacking us," Optimus explained. "I apologize if I have frightened you unintentionally. It was never my intent. I just wanted you to know where I stand."

Saphira didn't know if she should feel happy about that or not. She understood if it was a decepticon, but a human just seemed odd to her. But…knowing that Optimus will put aside his desire to protect humanity in order to protect her…well…she actually found herself attracted to him so much more. Even if hearing that scarred her. She smiled at him and finished removing the chicken meat off the frame and threw out the bones. She than made herself a chicken and cheese sandwich, she and Optimus remain in her room for the time being just talking and enjoying each other's company.
