Another Beach

Prompt: Reincarnation/Familiarity

Roxas took a breath.

The ocean waves rolled in.

He let go of the air in his lungs.

The water swept back across the shore.

As he lay on the beach, Roxas let his hand feel the warm sand beneath him. Cracking open his eyes, he smiled as he saw the blue sky overhead. The serene sight was a perfect match for the relaxing sound of the sea. The perfect place to take a quick breather.

But as he pondered the tranquil surrounding, a familiar face came into view. A blonde haired girl in a white dress looked down on him with a smile. "I had a feeling you might be down here, Roxas"

He smirked at Naminé as he moved his other hand behind his head to prop it up. "Really? This particular spot on the beach?"

Sitting down next to him, Naminé nodded and closed her eyes. "It's a good place to hear the ocean." She took a breath filled with the sea mists, and let her hand drift over to where Roxas' still felt the sand.

As he turned his hand from grains of sand to her gentle touch Roxas sighed, "I wanted to go down to the beach for so long, but being here is so different from the one in Twilight Town."

Naminé gave a gentle squeeze as she leaned over him. "Which one do you like better?"

Roxas raised an eyebrow and propped himself up to sit as he pondered the question. Considered how this seaside compared to the one just of the tram of Twilight Town. "I don't know. This is peaceful, quiet, and the weather's great." He shrugged, his hand still holding Naminé's. "But you can't get snacks, and there aren't many people." After all this time, he still was a bit of a sucker for creature comforts. Though of course, those meant very little without a friend to share them with.

Naminé giggled at his points as she looked around the shore, "The island's only so big. There isn't a lot of room for people or concession stands." Sighing with a smile, she began to muse, "Though I'm not much better. For the longest time I wanted to see this place. To see what memories I might make for myself." Roxas nodded, he couldn't deny some curiosity about Destiny Islands himself. The desire to see the homeworld of their somebody and see what they made of it. His pondering was interrupted however as Naminé began to lean on him. Looking over, he saw her give a fond smile as she looked into his eyes, "But now that I'm here, I can't forget the first time we went together to the beach in Twilight Town."

"Yeah, you're definitely right." Roxas nuzzled closer to her as he recalled that first trip to a real beach they both shared. The orange sun illuminated their summer getaway as they both saw the sights. But it was that first kiss in the ocean's wake that made it unforgettable. Still holding her hand, Roxas began to rise to his feet. "Ready to head back?"

Naminé had begun to look across the shores and began to murmur, "You mentioned a snack, earlier. The one major fruit here is…"

Roxas followed her gaze to the hill with two palm trees. Trees with very particular star shaped fruit. His eyes widened as he recalled the tale, "Two people who share one will have their destinies bound together, right?"

He looked over to ask if she wanted the same. Wanted to truly commit themselves to a life together.

But as he saw the growing blush on her cheek with a slight smile, Roxas realized that he didn't need to ask.

Neither of them said anything until they both went up to the tree where the fruits grew. Each of them holding one to the other, Roxas broke the silence with a murmur, "I want to be part of your life."

"No matter what." Naminé answered back as her eyes met his own.

Perhaps they were words spoken by others on this very same tree, with very similar fruits. But right now, neither of them cared. They had chosen a life together, and that was all they needed.
