Chapter Six:

"So this is Moana," Audrey said, sweeping her arms out awkwardly. Ted waved, and Vanellope joined in.

Audrey and Moana filled everyone in on her backstory and why she was actually in the city. The news about K Candy was shocking, but actually made a lot of sense, and as the hydrokinetic finished her story, Vanellope finished putting the pieces together.

"You guys remember the subject one?" She said. "The perfect experiment?"

"Oh mio dio," Onceler breathed as he connected the dots. "O'Hare!"

"Exactly," Vanellope said. "O'Hare kidnapped us to experiment and give us superpowers! He did the same with your sister, Moana!"

"Te-fiti was kidnapped by an Air company?"

"O'Hare Air doesn't sell air," Ted corrected. "They're an experimental science lab,"

"Then we should get her!" Moana yelled. "She's been gone for a year!"

"We can't," Oncie warned. "They have too much security,"

"We've been trying to find a way to take them down for the past year," Audrey added. "We need to take things slow, scout out before we attack,"

"Alright," Vanellope said. "Here's the plan,"

It was very late when Mavis, Ted and Vanellope headed back to their houses. They didn't run this time, instead choosing to walk.

They were a few turns away from their street when a series of muffled thumps stopped the trio in their tracks. At once, the three teens tensed.

"Hello,"

"Who are you?" Mavis asked. Six figures walked out of the darkness, dressed in black with similar hoods and a weird emblem on their arms.

"We're the monster hunters," The leader said. "For generations, we have hunted those who are dangerous to humankind and put an end to them. Supers have made this job hard, but we've been laying in wait for some time,"

"So you're here to what, kill us?" Vanellope yelled. Her body tensed, and Ted, who was standing next to her, felt the static electricity spark off of her.

"We'd love to stop you as well, phaser," One of the hunters hissed. "But we're here for the vampire,"

"The vampire?"

"Her," The leader said. He pointed at Mavis, who shrunk back. "She's not a normal super,"

"M-me?"

"Your father is looking for you, little vampire!" Another yelled. "And we'll use you to get to him!"

Mavis stumbled back, almost tripping over her own feet and she launched into the air and turned into a bat. The monster hunters charged, and Vanellope slid in front of Ted to protect him.

Just before the hunters swarmed the younger teens, Mavis transformed back and dropped to the ground, eyes glowing a deep magenta red.

"Leave." She commanded, and the hunters stumbled back. She turned to her friends. "Run!"

Vanellope, Ted and Mavis took off down the street, making it to their houses in a few minutes and sneaking back inside.

Mavis and Vanellope made it to their rooms, but Mavis stopped before she went inside.

"I haven't seen my dad in two years," She whispered. "Do you think he'll even want to see me?"

"I'm sure he does," Vanellope said. "Those weirdos said he's looking for you,"

"Yeah, but what does that mean? What am I?"

Vanellope shrugged and slipped into her room, then pulled out her phone just as it received a message from Ted.

"Cy-bugs, monster hunters, a new super - why does everyone want us dead?!"

A week later:

O'Hare Air's main building was dark, except for a single office on the top floor. Sitting at the desk was a short man with dark hair and a slightly taller man with a graying baldness.

"Mr Candy, your experiments have done nothing but cost us money," The shorter man muttered. "My company cannot continue to fund these wild attempts!"

"My Cy-bugs are a glorious invention," Candy insisted. "I know that those meddlesome supers tend to destroy the main wave, but the chaos and loot they bring us has upped the sales for home security we produce!"

"Candy, this worked when the only super was Wrecker, albeit a little more difficult than I would have liked," O'Hare said. "Those experimental supers were supposed to be enemies for him, not us!"

"We still have-"

The door opened, and a dark figure entered. The head monster hunter set his hood back, looking at the two city executives with a sneer.

"The vampire girl is stronger than we thought," He growled. "You may have given the others their powers, but this girl already had them in her genetics!"

"So I take it you were unsuccessful?" O'Hare muttered.

"Unfortunately," The monster hunter said.

"Then what am I paying you for Mr Helsing?!" He snapped. "You said this was in your lineage!"

"We will not fail," The other man insisted. "I have been prepared for this!"

"Is everyone ready?" Shockwave asked, looking at the team outside of O'Hare. "There's no going back once we go in,"

Moana was the first to nod. After her, Fleuria, Empousa and finally Fiore joined. With Ted's blessing from his spot at the headquarters computer, they entered the belly of the beast.

In an office at the top, an alert popped up on a computer.

"Well Mr Candy," O'Hare said. "I think this is your time to show what Cy-bugs can actually do,"
