A quick reminder if you haven't read the first chapter. All stories will be told in first person, from both Takeru's and Hikari's POVs in the same story. It will be separated to make it easier, though.

PS: The scene in the Yagami's apartment is a sequence, but the POV changes from Hikari's to Takeru's.

I hope you enjoy! Check back the next days for other stories.

Day 4: Summer Flu
I covered my eyes with my arms the moment I stepped into the sidewalk, due to how bright the sunlight already was so early in the morning. My initial plan was to enjoy this beautiful day with Hikari at the Tokyo Bay and then at one of many parks near Odaiba, but things changed this morning.

My alarm clock went off at the exact same time Patamon jumped on me, to wake me up. Most of the times, he was better at it than my cellphone. I groaned and rolled over, reaching for my phone on my bedside table. I was supposed to call Hikari to make sure she didn't forget about our date, though I was sure she didn't need it because of how excited she was. I did it anyway, and frowned when she didn't pick it up and then I got the voice mail. I pressed the end call button with a strange expression on my face. Hikari never ever missed a call, no matter who it was from. I tried again and, this time, someone answered it. Not her, though.
"Hello, Takeru."
"Mrs. Yagami, is everything okay?"
"Hikari woke up feeling sick today, so she won't be able to meet you. I'm sorry."
"What is she feeling?"
"She has fever and sore throat. I already gave her some medicine, so now we're waiting to see if it will work. I would let you two talk, but she went back to sleeping." Mrs. Yagami glanced at her. "But she wanted you to know she's very sorry for having to cancel your date."
"Is there anything I can do?"
"I don't think so." Though she was serious, I could tell she had a small smile on her face because of the tone of her voice. "I'm sure she will be better in the next few days, though. I'm sorry again."
"It's okay, Mrs. Yagami." I assured her with a light smile. "Can you tell her I hope she feels better soon?"
"Of course! I'll tell her you called too. If she feels better, she'll call you back later."
"Thank you."
"You're welcome."

"Takeru, are you sure Hikari's mom won't mind?" Patamon asked from the top of my hat and I looked up, though I couldn't see him at all.
"I hope not, Patamon." I tried to sound sincere. But the truth was that I didn't know how she would react. She didn't seem the type to get angry at people showing up at her door unannounced, especially her daughter's boyfriend. I took a deep breath. "But I have to try."
"Then let's go!" He exclaimed excitedly.
I couldn't help but smile at him before making my way to the candy store. I thought some treats would cheer her up, but I was also going to bring things to help her get better soon.
"Do humans give flowers to the ones who feel sick?"
"Not really." I looked up at Patamon again. "We only give flowers in specific moments, like Valentine's Day or birthdays."
Chocolate then?"
"You read my mind." I smiled and looked back ahead.
He flew away and landed in my arms, staring at me with a grin. "Of course, I'm your partner."

.

I threw a blanket over my shoulders and stood up to walk to the kitchen. Honestly, I don't even know why I managed to do it because my whole body was hurting and I was feeling really cold, though it was a very hot day outside.
"Hikari, oh my God!" My mom exclaimed and came in my direction, immediately placing her palm against my forehead and cheeks. "You're not supposed to be walking around. You're burning up."
"I can't stand lying in my bed anymore, mom." I confessed frustrated. "I hate being sick."
"I know, darling. But there isn't anything we can do about it. We have to wait until you get better."
"I was supposed to go out with Takeru today. Oh God, I didn't even tell him I had to cancel it."
"I did."
"What?" I looked at her surprised. "When?"
"In the morning. He had called you, but you were sleeping. I wasn't going to answer it, but he was so insisted. And I thought he deserved to know."
"Was he upset?"
"Absolutely not. He was concerned about you." My mom approached me with another pill and a glass of water. "Here you go."
"I should call him." I looked down at the pill she had shoved into my hand. "What is this for?"
"To make your fever go down. It can make you feel sleepy, by the way."
"Ugh, I feel like I'm ever doing today is sleep." I complained and went to sit on the couch.
"I'm sorry, Hikari. Hopefully you'll feel better tomorrow."
"I hope so." I grabbed the remote control and turned on the TV, mentally praying there was a good show on and I wouldn't have to keep surfing through channels.
"Are you hungry? Do you want to eat anything?"
"This sore throat is not letting me swallow anything, so I don't think I can eat even if I want to." I began to get a little alarmed when my mom went to get the wireless phone. "What are you doing?"
"I'm trying to call your father and see if he can leave work earlier to take you to the hospital."
"But mom, he's working. It would be unfair to ask him to do that."
"You're sick. I'm sure your father's boss will understand."
"I'm fine, mom. You don't have to call him."
"Alright. I'll call your brother, then."
"Mom, please." I walked to her and took the phone away from her hands. "Taichi has just gotten this job and it has been his dream. Forcing him to leave before he's due for the day can be bad for him."
"But…"
"If I don't feel better by tomorrow…" I was interrupted by the doorbell ringing. I exchanged glances with my mother. "Were you expecting someone?"
"No. Were you?"
I shook my head negatively and then she went to answer the door. I was about to sit back down on the couch when I heard my mother speaking again.
"Takeru?"

.

"What are you doing here?" She asked me when she stopped behind her mother, but in my field of vision.
"I came to check on you." I replied with a smile. "How are you feeling?"
"Please, come in." Mrs. Yagami stepped aside for me to walk in.
I looked at her and mumbled a 'thank you' to her and bowed down respectfully before approaching Hikari.
"I'm feeling alright. My whole body hurts and I have a fever." She managed to smile at me. "I took a pill not too long ago and it's making me a little sleepy."
"You should take some rest then."
"Yeah." She walked to the couch and lied down, completely wrapped on her blanket.
I grabbed a cushion from the other one and approached her. "Lift your head."
"Takeru, this one is already fine."
"It's too flat. You might wake up with your neck hurting. Two will be much better, trust me."
I carefully placed the second cushion between her head and the first one and she immediately lied it back down. A smile came to her lips.
"You were right. Two are definitely much better."
"I told you." I smiled back at her and then sat on the empty seat next to her, stroking her brown hair gently.
Not too long after that, I heard some gentle snores coming from her. She had finally drifted to slumber. I tilted my head back and soon it got me as well.

I couldn't tell exactly whether it was the smell of food coming through my nostrils or not so unconsciously realizing everything was dark in the Yagami's living room, but I slowly opened my eyes. There was a light blanket thrown over my body, which had been placed by Mrs. Yagami. I blinked a few times, trying to fully wake up, and then leaned forward. Tailmon was curled up on the floor, in the same direction as Hikari's head and chest, clearly sleeping. Patamon was right beside her, also sleeping, and I couldn't help but smile at that sight. I leaned back in my seat and stretched my arms.
"Good evening." She greeted me from the kitchen and I immediately looked at her. "She doesn't have a fever anymore, which is good. She should be up any second now."
"Great." I placed the back of my hand on her forehead and right cheek to make sure she actually didn't have a fever. Not that I didn't trust her mother, I was just looking after my girlfriend. Then I walked to the kitchen. "Thank you for the blanket."
"Oh. You're welcome. I had the feeling Hikari was feeling hot under the blanket, so I turned on the air conditioning. But it got a little too cold, so…"
"Yeah." I gave her a smile.
"Please, sit down." She motioned the chair in front of me, but I shook my head negatively.
"I spent enough time sitting down. I need to stretch my legs a little."
"I see." She placed a tray with fried eggs on the table. "I want to thank you for coming to check on Hikari. I'm sure she loved it."
"You don't need to thank me. I hope I didn't bother you by coming here unannounced."
"Of course not! Your presence cheered her up a lot. She was feeling annoyed and bored before you arrived. She didn't really want to stay in bed all day."
"It can get a little boring, so I don't blame her."
"Do you want to stay for dinner? Hikari would be very happy if you did."
"Uh…" I bit my lower lip, unsure, but then grinned at her. "Sure, I'd love to."

I was feeling much better after dinner. My throat wasn't that sore anymore and the pain on my body had decreased a lot after my nap - which could be considered almost a night's sleep because I slept for three hours. The best thing is being able to feel the taste of food again.
"You seem much better." Takeru handed me a small piece of chocolate. "You don't look so pale anymore."
"I feel great now. The fever is gone, I'm glad for that." I ate the chocolate he had just given me and almost cried with happiness. "It's so good to taste everything again."
"I'm happy to hear that." He grinned at me and I couldn't help but smile back.
"Takeru, did you tell your mother you're here?" Patamon landed on the top of his head. "She must be worried about you."
"It won't be necessary, Patamon." He stood up and looked at me. "Now that I know you're getting better, it's time for me to go home."
"Already?" I stood up too, not even bothering to hide the sad tone in my voice.
"Yes, I 'm sorry." I could see in his eyes that he didn't go as well. "But it's getting late and I think I've bothered you all enough for one day."
"Don't be silly. You can never bother us. We love having you here."
He smiled at me and I couldn't help but give him one back. I swear seeing him smile is one of the best things ever. And before I knew it, I was being pulled into a tight hug.
"Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt anything." My mother looked at us when she walked into the kitchen.
"You didn't interrupt anything, mom." I pulled away from Takeru. "Takeru was just about to go home."
"Thank you for the hospitality and letting me stay here the whole day, Mrs. Yagami. I'm sorry for causing any trouble."
"You didn't cause any trouble at all. In fact, I think you being here helped Hikari heal faster than she would normally."
"Mom!" I blushed heavily and avoided eye contact with him.
"Well, I need to go."
"I'll walk you to the door." I looked at the table and grabbed the bag over it. "I think this is yours."
"This is for you, you can have it."
"Thank you."
"Takeru, do you want to stay over for the night?" My mom came to talk to him at the door.
"What?"
"Well, it's really late for you to go back home alone. You can call your mother from our phone."
"I appreciate it, Mrs. Yagami. But my mother is used to me getting home late sometimes."
"I'll talk to her if you want. But I can't let you go home alone right now. If only Taichi still lived here…"
Takeru and I exchanged glances. Neither of us knew exactly what to say in a situation like this. I don't think I ever remember seeing my mom being thus this insistent about having someone stay the night here.
"It still have Taichi's old bed, by the way." I eventually said, excited with the idea of boyfriend sleeping here that night.

.

The sunlight made its way into the bedroom through the closed curtains. I squinted before opening my eyes. I looked to my right and smiled at the sight of my hand being intertwined with Hikari's between our beds. I looked up and saw her sleeping peacefully at her side, like I was the last thing she saw before falling asleep. I wondered if her hand below her pillow would be hurting because of her weight over it.

I took a long at her before turning my focus to the ceiling. All the events from last night overplay in my mind. My mother was completely okay with me sleeping at the Yagami's, but she did warn me not to do anything I would likely regret later. You know, what every mom says to their children when they sleep at their boyfriend's or girlfriend's house for the first time.

And then somehow Hikari managed to convince her mother to let us sleep in the same room. Mrs. Yagami couldn't deny it, since she was sick and used that in her favor. And that's how we ended up here. I looked at her again and a smile immediately appeared on my lips as I remembered what happened after that moment last night.
"The problem is that we only have one bed here. You can have it and I'll sleep on the floor."
"Absolutely not." I rejected the idea, shaking my head. "You have it and I'll have the one on the floor."
"But Takeru…"
"This is not open for discussion." I had a smile on my face, but the tone of my voice was firm. "You're sick, you shouldn't sleep on the ground."
"Okay." She looked at the bed beside her and her face lit up in happiness. "But if I put this mattress on the floor, it should be okay. Right?"
"I suppose so." I shrugged, not believing her ability to find a way to turn things in her favor.
"Great." She grinned and pressed her hands together over her chest. "It's decided then."

I lifted my left hand to her face and began to stroke her brown hair gently. The brush of my fingers against her skin made her squint and wake up slowly, which made me feel bad because I didn't want to wake her up.
"Good morning." A warm smile came to her lips when our eyes met.
"Good morning." I kept on stroking her hair and cheeks. "I didn't mean to wake you up."
"You didn't."
"Did you sleep well?"
"I did." She nodded. "In fact, I think I slept much better than the night before this one."
"I'm happy to hear that. Are you feeling better?"
"I am. I didn't wake up with a sore throat today, which is great. My body doesn't hurt anymore either. So you can say I'm brand new again." She laughed and I couldn't help but join her. "I'm ready to go out and enjoy this beautiful sunny day."
"I think we should take one step at the time. We can go out tomorrow. You should rest today."
"Fine." She tried to hide the annoyance in her voice, but I knew she wasn't happy about it. "I'm hungry. Let's have breakfast?"
"Sure." I stretched my hand towards her and we walked out of the bedroom holding hands.
