Emmett leaves to go feed Hamilton and run some errands, but sleep evades me. I'll close my eyes for a few minutes, but the constant sounds of the hospital make it hard to actually sleep. I'm thankful when Carlisle and Esme visit around noon because I'm bored out of my mind.

"How are you feeling, honey?" Esme asks while Carlisle inspects the monitors.

I shrug. "Not great, but I don't feel like all of this is necessary. Edward has me in the friggin' ICU."

"As he should," Carlisle says, leaning down to hug me as Esme sits on the edge of the bed. "Have they given you anything for the fever?"

"They've given me a few things. I think one was for that. I'm slightly less horribly uncomfortable now."

"Well, that's something." Esme smiles, reaching out for my hand. "We've been told by Emmett we're not allowed to stay long. He also told Jasper and Alice not to visit today—he tried me, but that wasn't happening."

I laugh softly. "Of course not."

"There was no way of keeping her at home," Carlisle chuckles. "Or stopping her from visiting the gift shop."

I look at my stuffed cat holding a get well balloon and smile. "I appreciate it. Hopefully, I won't be here long. Thanksgiving's coming up, and I'm not missing it. It's the first one I've spent with you all in years."

"You'll be good as new in two weeks, I'm sure," he says.

"And of course, we need your desserts this year, so you better be," Esme adds. "How's Hamilton doing?"

I smile, thinking about my boy. I've had him for almost two months, and he's grown so much. "He's getting fixed next week, which I hope I'm able to take him to. He's so full of spunk and energy."

"His little bowtie is so cute," Esme says, talking about the collar I got him. I'm keeping him strictly indoors, but I couldn't pass up ways to make him look dapper. "Oh, and those videos of him and that moving fish! So adorable!"

He's fucking cute as hell when he plays with that thing. "Yeah, and I just ordered these little balls that move on their own, which I think he'll go berserk over. They're supposed to arrive today, so I'm going to make Emmett open them and record him for me. I wish I could watch him from here."

Carlisle picks up his phone and grins. "I think I saw one on Amazon that throws treats. We'll get it for you, munchkin."

"That's a great idea, Carlisle!" Esme says. "Hopefully, you won't be here long, but if it arrives by tomorrow, at least, you'll get to play with him from here."

"And it will," he says. "Just placed the order. I'll text Emmett and have him set it up when it arrives. That's one less thing for you to stress over while you're here, and I suppose we shouldn't stay much longer so you can rest."

"Unlikely, but I'll try. I really appreciate you guys coming for a bit. I'm going to be bored out of my mind with Emmett's no visitor rule. And shit! I'm going to miss Seth's football game this week."

"We'll make sure he knows you're there in spirit," Esme promises. "I love you, sweetheart. Get better soon."

She leans down and kisses my cheek before Carlisle does the same, and then they leave just as Rosalie comes in again with a new bag of fluids and two other small bags I'm assuming are medicine.

"Your magnesium and potassium are low, so Dr. Masen ordered IV meds," she says. "Also, Emmett's called to check on you twice since he's been gone."

"He's very protective," I say, deciding to shoot my shot with her. "He's been so wrapped up in my health lately, and before that, he was raising me. I just wish he had someone else to care about. Someone who could help him through this … especially if something happens to me."

Her brow furrows as she hangs the bags. "He's not seeing someone?"

I shake my head. "He hasn't been in a relationship in years. A few dates here and there, but I think the whole, raising his little sister and career things get in the way. He needs someone who can understand the lifestyle of a doctor, I think."

Like you.

"Huh. I had no idea. I'm sure now he has his hands full though."

"He could use the distraction from me." I laugh. "What about you? Are you seeing anyone?"

She shakes her head, smiling sadly. "No, it's just me and my son, Benjamin. We're happy though."

"How old is he? I mean, if you don't mind me asking."

"Not at all. He's eight but acts like he's thirty. I swear he's an old soul or something—it's like he was born middle-aged. Way too smart for his own good."

"I get that. I had to kind of grow up fast when our parents died. Carlisle and Esme, the couple who were just here, took great care of me, but it's hard to stay a kid when you realize what this world is like."

She nods. "Ben's dad … well, he's an asshole—excuse my language. We divorced when he was four, and eventually, I had to get sole custody because Ben almost had to start parenting him. It's cruel when the world exposes kids to things even adults shouldn't have to go through. I'm so sorry about your parents."

"It's been a long time, but thank you. I'm sorry about your ex."

"Well, I don't need to worry about him anymore thankfully. Now, get some sleep. I'd like to report to your brother that you did when he inevitably calls again."

"I'll try for your sake. Thanks, Rosalie."

She smiles and turns my TV off—clearly serious about the sleep thing. "Just hit the button if you need me."

I think I can do this. She clearly likes my brother, so maybe it's not an awful thing I'm stuck in here. I just need a few days to work on them both, and then maybe he'll get the balls to ask her out.

Alice might not be the only one who can play matchmaker.
