Chapter 9

Note: Previously, in "To Mend a Broken Heart," Bella receives a text message from Edward, asking for her to meet him in the gym to talk.

Hey, guys! I'm going to attempt to update this crossover (which hasn't been touched since June 3). I started to update it, but I wound up not liking what I had, so this is a rewrite.

ON WITH THE SHOW!

Mikaelson Mansion – That Same Moment…

Klaus smiled at the latest masterpiece he created, which of a sleeping Caroline after their romp after the double date they went on with Bella and Kol. He wanted to immortalize the moment as he only knew how as an artist. Suddenly, his cell phone rang. Picking it up, he saw Caroline's number on the screen.

"Caroline, love, I was just thinking about you."

"I'll bet," she said. "Listen, Nik, we've got a situation here at the school."

"What kind of a situation?"

"Bella's ex is in town," said Caroline. "And he's not alone either. His siblings accompanied him. Apparently, he wants to 'talk,' though I doubt that's what he really wants. Before you ask, Stefan, Rebekah and I aren't going to let Bella do this alone."

"Given your closeness with your cousin, I don't doubt that you want to protect her," said Klaus. "I don't suppose the reason you're calling is because you want extra backup in case things 'go south,' as they say?"

"That's exactly why I'm calling," said Caroline. "We need you and Kol here."

"Say no more, love, we're on our way."

He hung up and was about to exit the room when Kol appeared, having overheard the conversation.

"Is Bella in trouble?" he asked.

"It would appear so," said Klaus. "She has Caroline, Stefan, and Rebekah there to protect, but they're going to need additional backup."

"You don't have to tell me twice, brother," said Kol. "I'll show that 'Edward Cullen' what happens when you cross a Mikaelson."

Klaus smiled. He knew his brother would leap at the opportunity to defend Bella's honor. They vamp out of the mansion, got into Klaus' car and headed to the school, hoping that they weren't too late.

Mystic Falls High School – Five Minutes Later…

Klaus pulled into the parking lot and stepped out of the vehicle, followed by Kol. As they made their way to the entrance, they saw that they weren't alone because there was a blue Camaro parked next to them. That meant Damon had showed up. But, why was he here when this wasn't his fight? They didn't have to wonder that for long because they saw Damon himself waiting for them.

"This isn't your fight, Damon," said Kol.

The blue-eyed Salvatore scowled. "It became my fight when my brother called a few minutes ago and told me that our cross country transfer's ex came into town. If you're worried that I'll deprive you of defending her honor, I'm not."

"Good," said Kol. "I want the pleasure of taking that bastard down for what he's done. If you want to deal with his siblings, by all means go right ahead."

He didn't let Damon reply and vamp sped into the building. He arrived at the gym, sensing Bella, Caroline, Stefan, and Rebekah, as well as Edward and the rest of the Cullen siblings. Rebekah saw her brother and went over to him.

"You're right on time," she said. "Your rival has just shown up." She saw that he was alone. "Where's Nik? I thought Caroline called him."

"He's right behind me, along with Damon. I left them in the parking lot." He went over to Bella. "So, this is Edward, the one who broke your heart?"

"Unfortunately, yes," said Bella. "I know I had you promise not to hurt him, but I had a feeling sooner or later, you'd be forced to break that promise."

"So did I," said Kol. "Not that he has a chance in hell against me."

Edward interjected then. "I wanted to talk to you alone, Bella."

"There's nothing to talk about, Edward," said Bella. "Last I checked, we're not together anymore. I don't know what you think you were going to accomplish by showing up here, but your mission failed before it even started."

Rosalie detected a scent coming from Bella and vamp sped over to her, tearing off the scarf from her neck, revealing Kol's bite mark on her neck. Edward didn't like what he saw.

"How could you have let him mark you, Bella?"

"You're a fine one to lecture me, Edward," said Bella, even though she was looking at Rosalie and not him. "Like I said, we're not together anymore. Take your family and go back to Forks. I don't need you anymore."

"Bella, I…"

Edward never got to finish because Kol grabbed him and flashed his fangs at him. "The lady said to leave, mate. If I were you, I'd do as I was told."

"What could you possibly offer her?" said Edward. "What does she see in you?"

Kol grinned. "A hell of a lot more than you could." He sensed that Klaus and Damon had caught up with him. "Oh, if you think you and your family can take me on, you're children compared to me! And my brother, Niklaus over there has a bite that can kill you within minutes."

Klaus vamp sped to the other side of Edward. "He's not exaggerating, you know. I have left many an unfortunate victim in my wake. Unless you want to end up like they did, I suggest you be a good boy and leave."

Edward pulled away from them. He saw that Emmett and the others were about to defend him but stopped them. "Out of concern for the safety of the humans, I won't fight you here. But that doesn't mean this is over."

"I was hoping you'd say that," said Klaus. "Name a time and place and we'll be more than happy to battle you. It'll be our pleasure to wipe you out of existence."

Without a word, Edward vamp sped out of the gym, followed by his siblings. Damon watched them leave and then looked at Stefan.

"That's the guy Caroline's cousin mistook you for when she met you?"

"Yes," he said, even though he didn't know why his brother would bring that up, especially after he had forgiven Bella for it. "Why?"

"I think you should update your look," said Damon. "You wouldn't want another out of towner mistaking you for her ex."

Note: Yeah, I know, another cliffhanger, but I didn't want to repeat anything that was already said, so I'll end the chapter here. Don't worry, it's not over yet. Stay tuned!
