Paul hasn't given up on Craze Killer yet. The meteor might be gone, but he can't shake the feeling that something is going on... Something much bigger than how it looked. He wants to get closer to answers, but it looks like he just keeps getting further and further away. As he studied the wall of clues he set, he can't seem to find anything.
"Okay... Calm down and try taking a step back before you reach the point of obsession." Paul told himself as he tried to calm down, keeping things in perspective. To make matters worse, he saw a letter slide under his door. That's never a good thing. He went to the envelope and saw it was about his rent and he was on the verge of getting thrown out. "Damn." He's had a little trouble with rent lately, but that's the least of his problems. Wanting to take a break from his problems, he reached for his phone and called his girlfriend.
"Yes?" Sabella asked.
"Hey. How are things going with you? I knew you were upset about not recovering the meteor and returning it." Paul said.
"I'm doing fine." Sabella said. "I wish things would have gone differently, but at least we were able to do something to stop Craze Killer."
"For now, but I don't think he's quite done with us." Paul said as he knows there's something big coming. He would have loved to talk to her more, but he heard his phone alerting him of another call. He took a look and saw it was Monica. "Hey, I've got another call coming in. I'll call you later, maybe even swing by your place ready."
"I would love that." Sabella said as she ended the call and Paul took Monica's.
"Hey, Monica. What's going on?" Paul said.
"Paul, you are going to love me for this." Monica said.
"I did love you, but that was years ago and I have a girlfriend now." Paul said.
"I mean that you are going to love what I found out." Monica said. "I think I might have found where Goldberg is hiding out." That was a form of good news that Paul really needed to hear.
"You have? How?" Paul questioned.
"I have my ways, my sources, my research, and so much more." Monica said. "I've followed cars some of his goons used, and when you told me that he and Master are working together, I followed Master's men as well. It took me some time, but I was able to find them. It looks like Goldberg bought a place about twenty miles out of the city into the woods."
"Send me the address, Monica. Let Thomas and Lindsay know what's going on as well." Paul said as he got his costume. This could be the chance that he's been waiting for. Even if he doesn't get answers about Craze Killer, he can still take Goldberg, Master, or both of them down together.
...
The Woods
As soon as Paul was told where Goldberg could be hiding out, he hurried over to where that place could be. With night as his cover, it will make infiltration that much better for him. Eventually, he reached the place. It was a mansion-like place that rested by the water. The problem was that there was a lot more security than he thought. There was searchlights, cameras, and even some guards.
"Looks like Goldberg is pulling out all the stops." Paul said as getting in there isn't going to be as easy as he thought.
"Part of the fun in this is part of the challenge." Paul looked and saw Venom and Blite were able to show themselves.
"About time you two got here." Paul said.
"Well, someone thought it would be easier to drive here than swing all the way here." Thomas complained.
"It was twenty miles. No way I was going to get all topsy-turvy for that long." Lindsay defended. "Anyway, Goldberg really does seem to up his game. Since his usual enforcers are gone, he needs to find new pawns for him to use. Let's keep in mind that Master could be in there too."
"So what's the plan? Do we just storm the place?" Thomas questioned.
"That's a good plan if we were stupid." Paul insulted thinking that was a stupid idea. "There's too many guards and too many security systems. Goldberg will be aware of us before we even get through the front door."
"There has to be some way in." Lindsay said as they tried to think of something. Windows won't work without them being spotted. They can't go through the roof either.
"Wait. There might be one way, but I don't think you guys are gonna like it at all." Paul said as he looked down to the water and spotted something that could help them, but it's not going to clean. The three of them went down near the water where a dock was. There were a couple guards there, but Paul and Thomas webbed them over to them. Once they had them on the ground, they knocked both of the guards out and webbed them down.
"How are we going to get in through the dock?" Thomas questioned.
"Not the dock." Paul said as he pointed ahead and showed the way in: a sewer line.
"No way. You are out of your spider mind if you think I'm going in there." Thomas said.
"I've done a lot of dirty things myself, but nothing like this." Lindsay complained.
"I know it's not pretty, but it's the only way in without getting caught." Paul said as he climbed against the side and went in. He pulled on the cover and pulled it right off. "Come on, guys. It's the only way in." Neither of them like this, but that probably is the only place with no alarm system.
"No one better use the toilet while we're in there." Thomas said.
"I'm going to need one hell of a bath after this." Lindsay said. They both swallowed their pride and made their way inside. They crawled their way through the sewer line, but had to endure the rotten odor and whatever they're slushing in. "Spider, I swear if I catch something from this, you're dead."
"Just deal with it. We need to get inside." Paul said.
"How are we going to get in that house through here?" Thomas questioned.
"Just leave it to me." Paul said as he knows how this is going to work.
...
The Basement
Paul's idea appeared to have worked. Using his enhanced strength as well as Venom's, he was able to break through a wall down in the basement. Once it was big enough, he and the others were able to slip right through.
"Told you it would work." Paul said.
"Disgusting, but it worked. Where are we now?" Thomas questioned.
"The basement, it would seem." Lindsay said.
"This way." Paul said as he found some stairs and made his way up with the others following. He opened the door carefully, but he did spot one of the guards walking by. When he came around, he moved quickly and pulled the guy inside. Once they gave him a few beatings, they placed him in the basement and tried to move ahead. "I think we're clear. I don't see a camera anywhere."
"This place is huge. How are we going to find Goldberg in this place?" Thomas said.
"We'll just have to check every room until we find something. We at least need to know what he knows about Craze Killer, and what he might be planning." Paul said.
"Let's check the offices. I'm sure there's something on his computers." Lindsay suggested, and that didn't really seem like a bad idea.
"Attention, men!" Goldberg announced over a system. "Spider-Man and his friends are within the property! Find them and terminate them!" All three of them were quite shocked to hear that Goldberg already caught up to them.
"So much for the element of surprise." Paul groaned.
"How does he already know we're here? What did you do, Venom?" Lindsay questioned.
"Why do you assume it's my fault?" Thomas questioned.
"Forget it! Let's just move it!" Paul said as the three of them forgot stealth and just started running down the hall until two men got in their way.
"There they are!" The two of them were about to open fire on them, but Paul shot a couple lines and pulled the guns right out of their hands. When he did that, Thomas leaped at them and grabbed them by the faces to smash them against the floor.
"Which way? It won't be long until more of them show up." Thomas said.
"Just start running somewhere and look for anything." Paul said. Now that their presence has been known, they need to move fast.
...
Goldberg
Goldberg was monitoring Spider-Man and his friends on a large computer. He felt like watching an amusing movie as he saw the three of them run through his mansion.
"I wish I had some popcorn." Goldberg said.
"I could go and make some if you want." He looked behind him and saw Master was joining him. "How did you know they were in the mansion in the first place?"
"Those fools think they're so stealthy, but they're not." Goldberg said. "The pesky thing about spiders is that you find them just about everywhere. However, when you find them in their home, they always end up getting squashed. By the way, how is our other little guest doing?"
"Still having trouble adjusting." Master said. "Can't you hear him?" Goldberg took a listen and could hear the moans of someone. "I can't really blame him. It's such a drastic change in his life. There's really no telling how long it will take for him to accept this. It took me years to grow accustom to my appearance after my accident."
"As long as he helps us in the end, what does it matter?" Goldberg questioned as he didn't really seem to care much for who they were talking about just as long as this person does what they need him to. "Just keep your focus on Spider-Man and those other fools. They're actually a lot closer to us than they think." That got Master to pay attention.
...
Spider-Man
Paul and the others fought their way through the mansion. As one tried shooting at them, Lindsay was able to soar at him and smashed her feet against his face and knocked him down.
"Fire in the hole!" One man called as he pulled a pin out of a grenade and tossed it at them.
"No thanks! We don't want it!" Thomas said as he webbed the grenade. "You can keep it!" He threw it back at them. The men tried to clear out of the way just as the grenade went off and the explosion knocked them down. A couple more rounded the corner and came at them, but Paul already shot a couple lines and webbed them to the wall.
"Goldberg will have to step his game up." Lindsay said.
"Guys, in here. I think I have something." Thomas said as he opened up a door. The three of them hurried inside. Once all three of them were in, Thomas shut it and webbed it down. "That should keep them out while we do a little digging. Look there." He pointed at a desk and they all saw a computer.
"A computer! Perfect! We can finally get some answers." Paul said.
"I got this one. I know a thing or two to get some passwords." Lindsay said. She got to work on the computer and tried to find something that could tell them the things they needed to know. Thomas and Paul gathered around her to see what was on that computer themselves.
"Anything yet?" Thomas questioned.
"Give me a minute. I'm not a computer expert." Lindsay said as she kept searching. "Wait a minute. This is weird."
"What is it?" Paul questioned.
"It's a message for us on this computer." Lindsay said as she found that to be very strange. "See you next fall? What the hell does that mean?"
"Hold on." Paul said as he could feel his spider sense going off in his head. "My spider sense is alerting me of danger, but I don't see anything." That was right when the floor opened up underneath them and all three of them fell through. They came here thinking they could take Goldberg by surprise, but it looks like the tables have turned on them. Now it looks like they've fallen into Goldberg's hands.
