Three Weeks Before Surveillance:
Esteban watched as the light left the eyes of a toy gone way too soon. I let my rage get in the way of having fun unfortunately.
"Please, I- I have children" the sound of the filthy bitch snaps him back to reality. Looking at the pathetic piece of trash quivering in the corner made him angrier.
"I never thought about that before. It actually pisses me off more. What kind of mother would do what you do? You're degenerate" he feels the rage boil over once again and he begins striking at the woman. The screams for mercy and the exclamations of pain bring him great joy. If there is anything that pisses him off more than these "sex workers", it's the ones with children.
Those kids are better off without their filthy mother, I'm doing them a favor. To think they'd waste their life like this instead of caring for their children. It isn't until he hears the sound of bones cracking with every hit that he finally stops.
Two Weeks Before Surveillance:
Eric and Horatio step out of the hummer onto a familiar scene. Except this time, it was much worse. Not even a 15min drive into the Everglades was an embankment usually used for dumping bodies, it's been nicknamed "Death Valley" for the high concentration. If it weren't for the poor infrastructure, they would have been able to have cameras installed. Intead, patrol come by(and during high peak times, they even sit) and canvas the area. It was on one of the drivebys that the bodies were discovered.
The pair walk up to the officers who discovered the scene "Mulligan, Hawkes. You guys okay?" the officers, despite their years on the job, were green. "Lt. We were making rounds and came across… this" with a cursory glance, Horatio takes in the scene.
It almost looks serene. Two women were spread out across the bank appearing as if they were tanning. -if only-. He couldn't pick which between the two suffered more. One had what appeared to be signs of torture and the other seemed to have been the subject of intense rage. Eric's voice breaks his train of thought. "How long between each sweep?"
Hawkes takes his eyes off the bodies to answer "We do a sweep every 3hrs. The victims surely weren't there during the last sweep."
Horatio tries to pay attention to the rest of the conversation but the sight of the victims took his attention. Like Paul Schauffer a few weeks back, these women were brutalized. But it seemed that they took on the full brunt of the killer's anger. He sent a silent prayer that their suffering wouldn't go in vain.
One Week Before Surveillance:
Horatio sat back in his office chair and felt his blood boil. The caved in faces and bruised bodies made it impossible to make a physical identification. The amount of rage projected onto the victims surpassed Schauffer's murder indefinitely. The DNA took a week to get back and it was Rebecca Trujillio and a fellow sex worker, Angela Barnes. Unlike Trujillio, Barnes wasn't reported missing but word from the street is that the two always watched out for each other. Despite a week passing and the large amount of evidence, nothing was pointing them towards the culprit. Staring down at the files, Horatio can't help but grieve for the victims and their families. Both had children who depended on them. They turned to sex work for their own reasons but it didn't mean they deserve anythin like this.
So deep in thought, Horatio failed to hear the knock on his door or even the knocker entering. "You okay Caine? I knocked but you weren't responding" standing before him was Chief Rayaz. What a.. Good sign.
"How can I help you Chief? It's not everyday you stop by for a visit." Horatio could barely keep the disdain out of his voice. The older man swaggers into the room with the smuggest smile. Surely the slimeball was here with words of "encouragement".
"Next week is your surveillance of Esteban Navarro. It's safe to say that your reputation amongst the Board is riding on this. Diego owns this land the lab and HQ is on. Suffice to say that any wrong move on your end will be disastrous." if the man could twirl his thick mustache while saying this… he would. "Is that a threat, Chief?" Horatio felt the anger boil once again. The boisterous man chuckles deeply, the smile still hidden by the mustache.
"No, no, not at all Caine. Not at all. But after your stunt a few weeks ago, it'ss in your best inter…"
"My stunt?" Horatio's eyes alight with the anger he was feeling the entire time.
"Oh I've seen the shiner you gave Esteban. You're lucky he isn't pressing charges or anything. He said and I quote 'If he needs to let his frustrations out this way then so be it. But if this is how he treats innocent people, I feel sorry for the suspects'. And I agree with him. That would be a question we'd have to look into if he really wanted to press charges. So yes, now that I'm rethinking things, this is a threat. Ms. Duquesne is well deserved of a raise in both pay and stature. It would be simpler for all of us to just scrap you and promote her. But you keep a good balance and we plan on keeping it that way… right?"
Horatio was too stunned to speak. The audacity of this man to come into here and threaten him and even drag in one of his CSIs. WIth a heavy sigh, Horatio straightens himself before replying "Chief, I appreciate your concern and I will take what you say into consideration. We will handle this surveillance with the utmost care. This is the second time I'm hearing Calleigh being brought up and I can't say I'm a fan of it. Please take care to leave her out of all this."
The two men stand up and they shake with tense hands. There's something afoot here, I need to keep a better eye on my CSI, I don't like this one bit.
